Education System - Blog Posts

It drives me fucking bananas as someone with a learning disability when someone says “just study harder.” Like I’m not already doing everything I possibly can to stay afloat. I’m already on the verge of mental collapse, if I do any more I’ll fall apart. I’m not capable of studying any harder, Karen!

Just before covid hit my brother and I at 15 and 19 found our selfs homeless. I had a choice, my brother would go into care or we could stay together, but only if I took responsibility for him and had somewhere to live. So I applyed for social housing, the guy that processed my case was sympathetic and at some points I was holding it together better than him, do you have any other family? No, Do you know where your mother is? I wish I did, how old is your brother? 15 are you in any fulltime education? Not anymore. He looked at me like I was something tragic and I suppose I was, there isn't a metaphor for what I looked like that works any better than just what his naked eyes saw; a girl abandoned by her mother, her life in a bag on her back completely thrown on how to deal with everything, and all he could do was fill out a form and send it and me off. it's going to be okay.

Somehow despite the odds we where given emergency accommodation and a year later a property to rent, I suspect we where pushed up the list because of my brothers age, we where lucky, some people wait years in hotels or streets all over the country, living out of suitcases and rucksacks.

As lucky as we where, luck didn't cover all the things I suddenly had to know. I had no idea how bills worked or paying my taxes, I didn't even really understand what "taxes" meant until the final notices where piling up in front of us. It's something they don't teach you in school or at least mine didn't. They never taught us how to survive in a world like this, they assume our parents would be there to explain or we'd be much older before it mattered. what's more useful in real life, how to formally address someone in an email or how to keep the lights on or how to find food when a tin of beans is too expensive.

Though I suppose the email ettique lesson was useful for something in the end,

To whomever it may concern, I'm writing to you regarding my payment plans and how I'm choosing to fork over alot of money and won't be buying enough food to live off this month. My regards.

What you hate is not really the math, but rather the broken education system that presented it to you

reblog if you think math doesn't deserve all that hate

Ninth Classroom...

I bounced from school-to-school for a while before landing…

I was placed in a pull-out position where I would work with English Language Learners…

They were new to the country and new to the school…

A lot of the students were true beginners unable to associate phoneme to letter…

It was a lot of work, considering I only see them twice a week for half an hour at most…

Hybrid classes…come to school two days…go virtual three…

Except they don’t show up and do no work…

Fortunately, I’m not a ‘real’ teacher yet…

They only get some additional language support from me…completely homework free.

Of if they needed to talk…I was always willing to listen.

The Pandemic is hard on all of us…

Forget your standards and your deadlines…

Let children be children…

High school

I know its been said before and it’ll be said again. But guys American high school is HARD. Its mentally taxing and emotionally and even physically. Heck I wake up feeling sick just from stress and anxiety. Something needs to change because this cannot be it. I shouldn't be doing 6 straight hours of work and waking up exhausted to go into FOUR assessments.

reblog if you think these are all valid reasons for a student or an employee to take a day off from their school or their job without their grades or paycheck being affected in any way:

- period cramps

- exhaustion, be it mental or physical

- depression, anxiety, and other mental health related issues

Teacher: I’ll do my best to work with students who have any sort of health issues.

Me: *misses one day due to my health issues*

Teacher: Well you were absent so it’s your responsibility to figure everything out.

A Reminder To Those Who Need It.

I got this question a lot and I'm absolutely tired of hearing it...

"What are you doing in college?", "What are your plans after senior year?"

Like, I don't even know what I'm gonna do over the break or the next whole year, so, i thought maybe it's like this for everyone. People are expected to decide everything like it won't actually impact their life. Most of my class is damn sure about what they wanna do while me? I just wanna pass senior year with good grades and think about it slowly and with a clearer head.

For me, the main thing that matters is that i shouldn't regret taking something i don't like and I don't wanna rush the whole decision up. And i just got like such judgy eyes... ugh... Like, I don't know what i want... Why is that not okay nowadays? Why is taking time to figure it out not alright?

So, to everyone who's in a situation like me...

You don't have to have everything figured out, if you don't know what you're gonna do, that's completely fine. Take your time, it's not a race.

Honestly, it can be quite confusing and you may feel like you might be kinda lax about it but honestly, it's definitely okay :)

You're not obliged to rush your decisions just because another person has already made theirs.

Just wanted to say that... okay, bye.

Point to remember :))

It doesn't matter if someone you know has completed the whole material twice or thrice, what matters is how much of it you actually remember.

Sadly, our education system does not test how much we know, it only tests how many of the questions we can answer. So, the content you put in your answers matters more than what you know.

So, you're doing good, just don't stop and focus on your own progress. :)
