the willow project is a huge oil drinking project that has just been approved by the Biden administration.
it will be done on Alaska's north slope in the national petroleum reserve. the project will release the equivalent of 260 million metric tons of carbon pollution.

I think we need to normalise trying to be sustainable. The amount of people who just don't care about the environment around them astounds me. Some people don't care that the $700 temu haul doesn't degrade because everything is made of plastic. They don't care that the tree they just dug up has been there longer than they have been alive. They don't care that most of the food they buy comes in plastic that hasn't been recycled and will take hundreds of years to degrade. They don't care about native fauna and flora that are going extinct.

The Laguna Madre is a beautiful ecosystem that houses so many species of wild life and many migratory species of shore birds go there to eat and rest. Its all thanks to the sea grass that grows there, and after the big freeze of Texas in 2021, it is slowly making its recovery and now it's in danger again!

If Elon continues with this disguising act, nitrogen and hydrogen rich waste will be dumped and plankton and algae will begin to overpopulate and create a cloud of themselves over the sea grass causing it to not get the sunlight it needs to photosynthesize. It will basically be suffocated by the overpopulation of microorganisms and die out and so many species of animals will lose that shelter they need to feed, breed and even escape dangers like predators. This grass also feeds the endangered green sea turtle and was even given the name "Turtle Grass" for its huge importance to these creatures.
(Green Sea Turtle grazing) Not only that, but the South Padre Island is one of the largest ports in America and has many shrimping and fishing companies that rely on the environment to make a minimum wage. And once the water gets polluted, so many people can get sick or worse if they eat the fish and shrimp that have been exposed to it!

We need more trees in suburban and urban areas. They create shade for people and habitat for wild life. In overdeveloped areas which are just flat Concrete and asphalt temperatures can get really high.
Also if ur going to have a lawn, please native grasses and plants because these give habitat to bees and native wildlife.
Plastic or fake grass can get hot enough to give third degree burns and is a danger to pets and children.
On April 16th 2025 the US federal government has proposed to change the interpretation of the endangered species act so that it no longer protects habitat.
This is open for public comment until the end of May 19th. Please comment and make your voice heard.
Wildlife need their habitat. If the ESA redefines harm so that habitat is no longer protected, the implications for wildlife would be catastrophic.

Climate Change Science is Conclusive, and Here’s What You Can Do about It
In a recent study containing over four decades of satellite data (https://www.bloomberg.com/…/climate-change-is-disrupting-th…), researchers concluded that the odds that climate change is occurring naturally without human influence are approximately 5/ 1,000,000 or 0.0005 percent.
In any other peer-reviewed scientific study this would be regarded as very convincing evidence that our climate change is anthropogenic; however, American society, in particular, allows non-scientific members of our community speak with emotionally-guided or overly-simplistic (https://www.washingtonpost.com/…/does-trump-even-know-tha…/…) rhetoric on whether or not this is science we should consider.
Whether or not scientific data is comforting to you has no bearing on whether or not the data in question is conclusive.
It is disheartening to me, as a science major heading toward graduation and a future where I hope American politics adequately represent me, to know that my fellow citizens are swayed by unwarranted, snowball-in-congress (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3E0a_60PMR8) arguments that are actually funded by people who benefit from hiding climate change evidence (https://www.scientificamerican.com/…/dark-money-funds-clim…/). Even though it may be profitable for now to pursue business practices that harm the environment and cause climate change, it will be more expensive for our society to pay for the damage done to our land in the future. We will, as a society, eventually have to pay for the citizens who need emergency treatment for asthma, illness from contaminated water and air, and heat complications. There are greater storm risks with climate change, and we, as a society, will have to pay more for emergencies that could have been prevented (https://www.researchgate.net/…/links/5566497208aeccd77735a1…). If companies are not paying for environmentally-protective practices now, society will be paying their debt in the future-- plain and simple.
Information confirming climate change is particularly disarming when one considers debts we cannot pay back. For example, irreversible changes to interspecies interactions are caused by climate change. For example, plant-pollinator interactions rely on seasonal temperatures and daylight hours to ensure that when plants are ready to be pollinated, bees are also ready to pollinate. Often plants' perception of season relies on hours of sunlight. If a plant species receives an ideal time of daylight, morphological changes occur to initiate plant flowering or fruit development. Climate change does not alter the hours of daylight for plants, so they develop on their typical timeframe (not taking greenhouse gas concentration and temperature changes into account). On the other hand, the plant pollinators like bees rely on temperature changes to represent a seasonal change to signal when they should pollinate plants. Because temperatures prematurely rise in the progress of a year due to anthropogenic climate change, bees are prematurely signalled to start pollination for plants when the plants are not ready to be pollinated. This is called a phenological mismatch. When bees are ready to pollinate before plants are in their pollination season, bee populations are devastated on a large scale because they do not have access to nectar and pollen that they need to survive. The phenological mismatch also reduces the reproductive success of the plants to which the bees are co-adapted (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/…/…/j.1461-0248.2008.01269.x). Phenological mismatches caused by climate change are not exclusive to plant-bee interactions; this is just one of many examples.

TL;DR: Climate change is anthropogenic. If companies do not invest in environmentally-safe practices in the status quo (because we as consumers and constituents do not let them know it is an important issue), taxes will have to cover the costs (with interest) in the future. However, some costs can never be paid back-- like, if entire bee species go extinct.

I don't make these kinds of posts, but Rio Grande do Sul (a brazilian estate) is going through its worst natural catastrophe in recorded history and I need everyone to know about this. Its currently looking like this:
What is going on
Most of Brazil suffers from yearly floods during the rain season. These floods most of the time aren't bad, with water going away a few hours later. Sometimes they are a nightmare, with people losing their homes and most if not all belongings. But this?
This is not fucking normal.
Currently (May 6th, 2024) there's +80 confirmed deaths and 873 thousand people are being affected by these historical floods. Eight hundred and seventy three THOUSAND people. Once again: THIS. IS. NOT. NORMAL.
Rio Grande has 496 cities, and currently, 364 are reporting problems related to this. It's almost the entirety of Rio Grande - and you know how big Rio Grande is? If you're from the USA, its just a bit bigger than Colorado, and just a bit smaller than Nevada. If you are European, Rio Grande is bigger than the United Kingdom. Can you imagine if almost the entirety of the UK was underwater? Because I sure fucking can just by watching brazilian news!
Rio Grande expects floods. It rains a lot in Brazil. What no one expect is having to deal with 2,30 meters - 7'7 feet for reference - ABOVE the expected flooding level, which is 3 meters (9'10 feet). This means that there were 5,26 meters (17'3 ft) of water. Chart for comparison:
I live in São Paulo, which is completely unaffected by what is going on over there, but I need people to be aware of this. Why?
