It’s the best time of the year when Tokyo-based game shop Meteor opens up My Famicase Exhibition, its annual gallery of Famicom cartridges adorned with labels for made-up games from talented artists around the world. My timeline is filled with amazing cartridge art – I picked out and embedded ten cool pieces I spotted on Twitter!:

I can finally show you my entry for this year’s FAMICASE Exhibition!
It’s called Olympic Curling.

All 250 entries from this year’s My Famicase Exhibition – Meteor’s showcase of cart designs for made up Famicom games – are now available for you to click through and enjoy! This is way more convenient than opening a million tabs from Twitter’s #famicase hashtag, and you can get a better sampling of the contributions from Japanese artists. Plus, there are descriptions for all of the concepts, though you may need to open Google Translate for some.
The designs we featured above come from Anna Dittmer, イイヌマ, ヤマダユウス型, 廸, NEKONOKO, イズ, Dima Goryainov, rayzones, Chris Furniss, and Liam Higgins. You can see all of the cartridges on display at Meteor’s game shop and gallery in Nakano, Tokyo until May 13.

I wanted to feature my favorites from this year’s My Famicase Exhibition – the annual showcase of Famicom cartridge designs for made up games, hosted by Tokyo game shop Meteor – but there are too many splendid pieces to pick from. By the time I got through half of the designs posted on Twitter with the Famicase hashtag, the number of open tabs I had threatened to crash my web browser, so here are ten standout cartridges I’ve found so far, including a number from friends of the site we’ve talked about here before.
The artists we’ve featured above, starting from the top left: Duncan Corrigan, @pyong_pyong, Adam Tierney, Austin DuBois, William Greenawalt, Philip Summers, Jordan Rosenberg, Sebastien, @data_doge, and Cory Schmitz.
Meteor will have around 250 Famicase designs up for display at its gallery until May 13. It’s my dream to one day make it to one of these, so if you’re in the area, please do not miss this opportunity to pay Meteor a visit!

Cartridge for My Famicase Exhibition at METEOR in Tokyo. @meteor_club #famicase
Cory Schmitz put up a mood video for a video game idea he had, and it struck a chord with me because I’ve had a similar idea for such a long time. The video was really inspiring for the right atmosphere, so lo and behold, fanart for something that doesn’t exist yet, I guess! Children exploring a city on their own, defending themselves from rival gangs? Yes please, yes please!
(Thanks for letting me do this, Cory!)
The My Famicase Exhibition show has opened in Tokyo’s METEOR store, and though the gallery isn’t online yet, pictures from the participating artists are starting to trickle out.
Here’s one by super cool designer/Tiny Cartridge site designer Cory Schmitz. His concept:
“THE CITY IS THEIRS.” While the grown-ups are hooked up to their VR machines, the children sneak outside & The City becomes their playground. Create your character, explore the decaying mysteries of The City, & watch out for rival gangs. 1 player.
Nubuwo has a roundup of some other fictional Famicom cartridges shown off on Twitter! And, as I must always mention when talking about Famicase, we had a design in the Famicase 2011 show, made with Ashley Davis!

How exciting! Time to look through all the Famicom cartridge art designed by cool people and displayed at METEOR in Tokyo. There’s no Tiny Cartridge project this year, but there are carts by lots of cool people! Above are carts by Lord Toon, VAGABOND, John-Charles Holmes, Daruma Studio X Game & Graphics, and Matthew Kenyon.
I’m sure we’ll highlight more cool carts as we have time to take in this exhibit! And of course don’t miss Cory Schmitz’s cart, already posted.
