It's Kagami! She's the avatar!

She has pretty much mastered the element of fire, and earth comes naturally to her. When she left The Fire Nation she was sent to the Air Temples to learn airbending (it's next in the cycle) however, much like Korra, she had difficulty bending air because "avoid all your problems" is not a philosophy that comes naturally to her, so she left to find an alternative method of learning, going to the Kyoshi Warriors thinking their combat style would help her understand the element of air.

While training with the Kyoshi Warriors (which wasn't just to understand air, let's be honest, the culture and fighting style is something Kagami had always admired, also the girls are hot and she totally doesn't have a crush on the one with the ponytail) she heard that the the chief of the Northern Water Tribe was visiting Ba Sing Se. So she traveled/is traveling to Ba Sing Se in order to learn some earth bending and to try and get an in with Gabriel, so she can learn waterbending at the North Pole.

So I thought I'd revisit Mari and go over some stuff for the No Thieves In Ba Sing Se AU.

She is not the avatar. Just a firebender.

She helps her parents at the bakery using her firebending alongside her mother. Tom is a nonbender. (Or maybe a cake bender? Haha, jk... Unless?)

She's still Alya's bff.

Avatar:  Dragon Eggs and the Solstice

In Episode 313 (The Firebending Masters) Aang and Zuko enter a secret chamber and discover a ‘gem’ that “feels almost alive”.  This has led many fans to believe that the ‘gem’ is actually a dragon egg.  

Let’s assume this theory is correct.    

But if it’s a dragon egg, why would the Sun Warriors hid it here?

The obviously reason is for protection.  Dragons had been hunted almost to extinction, and a dragon egg would be rare and very precious thing.   

But I have another theory.  

The Sun Warriors hid the egg in a chamber that could only be opened during the solstice (most likely the summer solstice).  In the avatar world, the solstice is when the spirit world and the physical world are closest together and spiritual energy is at its peak.  The solstice is also when the Sun is at its strongest/ weakest (relative to the perspective on earth).  The Sun is the source of firebending.  And since Dragons are the original firebenders, it would make sense for dragons to have some connection to the Sun and the solstices.  

My theory is that secret chamber is specifically designed to hatch dragon eggs.  

On the solstice the chamber would open.  Then Sun Warriors would bath the egg in sunlight concentrated from the sunstone outside.  The concentrated sunlight during the solstice would fill the egg with spiritual energy and cause it to hatch.  (Just like how Roku used the solstice to talk to and empower Aang.)  

To me at least, it makes sense that the original firebenders would be born on the solstice.

Zuko and the “Sea of Chi”

When Iroh teaches Zuko how redirect lightning, he instructions Zuko to move the lightning from his arm, down to his stomach, and out the other arm.  Iroh called the stomach the “Sea of Chi”, or a vast ocean in Irohs case.  

In Zuko’s final Agni Kai with a Azula, he is able to redirect the lightning, but at great cost.  Zuko wasn’t able to maintain proper form when he was jumping in to save Katara, and got hurt and a chest scar as a result.  

My theory on how Zuko got that scar is this:  Zuko didn’t have time to redirect most of the lighting through his arms.  Instead, he caught most of it directly in his stomach.  Then from the stomach, he could release it from his other arm.   However, Zuko got very hurt because the lighting burned through flesh on its way to the stomach.  

My Evidence:  His chest scar is exactly over where his stomach should be.

Another magic circle for Avatar the Last Airbender.   I’m a huge fan of both Avatar: the last Airbender and Cardcaptors.   I’ve always really like Li’s compass for finding the Clow Cards, so I redesigned it to find the next avatar.

We know that water bending gets stronger at night; Katara says as much at the end of ALTA Book 1.  However, the Moon is only in the night sky 50% of the time with the other 50% in the daytime.  Since Katara probably has better sleeping habits than me, I’d assume she goes to bed before midnight.  Therefore, she would only see the Moon at night about 25% of the time.  

It’s a common misconception to think that the Moon only appears at night.  In fact, it is more likely for people to see the Moon during the day because people are awake more in the day.  

Then why is water bending stronger at night, if the Moon is only there 25% of the time?

The answer is interference from the Sun.  We know that water bending and fire bending can interfere with each other in the case of a solar eclipse.  The Moon moves in front of the Sun and blocks the “Fire Bending WIFI Signal”.  water bending is interfering with fire bending, so it would make sense if it works both ways.  Fire and Water are usually considered opposites, so it makes sense that water bending would be weaker during the day and at full strength during the night.

Combustion bending is one sub-set of bending I’d love to explore more.  I think it’s possible for other firebenders to do a smaller version of it.  

This is my most current elemental chart for Avatar the last Airbender.  It’s gone through many different versions but I’m really happy with how this one turned out.  

I’ve included my old versions for reference.  

Central area:  The four classic with Energy bending in the center.  

Inner Circle:  Basic sub-skills most benders can use.  

Outer Circle:  Advanced sub-skills that are difficult to learn.  

Outer Edge:  True power of the Element.  Only achieved when you master the spiritual side of that Element.  

AIR

AGILITY:  Heightened sensitivity, speed, and reaction.  

LEVITATION:  Able to float in the air.  

VORTEX:  Able to send air compression blasts at your opponent, similar to a vortex cannon.   

CLOUD:  Able to create a cloud to ride on as seen in LOK and “Journey to the West”.

WATER

ICE:  Able to bend Ice and turn water into Ice.  

HEALING:  Able to energize water for healing purposes.  

PLANT:  Able to bend plants by bending the water in them.  

BLOOD:   Able to bend animals by bending the water in them.

EARTH

SAND:  Able to control earth as sand, dirt, or a granulated state.  

METAL:  Able to bend metal.  

MINERAL:  Able to bend large Crystals.  

LAVA:  Able to bend Lava or earth in a molten state.  

FIRE

FLAME:  Able to alter your flame in fire bending.  Make it hotter = blue fire.  Also includes sensing chi with fire.  

LIGHTNING:  Able to produce or redirect lightning.  

HEAT:  Able to manipulate heat.  

COMBUSTION:  Able to make explosions with firebending such as Combustion Man, or when Zuko failed to learn Lightning bending.
