Introduction to the Six Common Types of Spirits to Expect When Going on a Spook Hunting Session

Spook-spotting requires preparations and one of the preparations needed is figuring out exactly what type of spirits we are dealing with. Depending on the case, the spook could be one of the following six:

1. The Detached or Replay Spirits. The most common spirits to encounter, replay spirits are shades of the dead that "replay" the events of their tragic deaths over and over again. They tend to keep to themselves and have minimal to zero interactions to living humans.

Protocol: Observe and record their activities without interruption. Communication may be attempted but don't get your hopes up. Even if some of them interact, there is nothing to be done for the spirit themselves. The surrounding psychic energy keeping them trapped will, according to the first law of thermodynamics, eventually dissipate, though how long they will remain trapped, only time will tell.

2. Poltergeist. German for "noisy spirit", it is the second most common spirit to encounter. Always invisible, it makes its presence known through noisy disruptions hence the name. They tend to come and go as they please, though they often focus their antics onto a particular person or family, even buildings. Though violent, it is rarely murderous.

Protocol: Be prepared with backups when dealing with these types of spirit. Chances are, your cameras and other recording equipments will be thrown about during the spook-spotting sessions. Don't forget to bring a few sets of first aid kits. There will be bruising and scratches.

3. The Interactive Spirit. Third most common spirits to encounter and the most diverse. They can range from curious benign spirits to malevolent vengeful ghosts. These are the types that have unfinished business with the living, and if encountering one, it is advisable, though not warranted, that you try to help finish their earthly business.

Protocol: Be cautious. Interactive spirits are temperamental and the slightest agitation can send them flying off the handle. Observe in groups for security, preferably 5:1 in human-to-spirit ratio. If you have a skilled negotiator, bring him or her along. These types of spirits are generally attached to a particular person or building. So if the negotiations go sideways, it is advisable to destroy said building or individual to release the spirit's bond from the earthly plane.

4. Transport or Vehicular Ghost. This is one of the rarer spirits on this list. They behave similarly to detached or replay spirits. However, it is still unknown what triggers their manisfestation. It is also uncertain whether these can be considered spirits at all.

Protocol: Observe and record as normal. Corporeality of vehicular spirits have not been tested since these spirits usually appear far away from observers. For vehicular spirits that appear close to the observer, take caution as people approached by said spirits often report feeling anxious and unexplained dread when approached by these apparitions

5. Animal spirits. About as rare as vehicular spirits, cases of actual animal spirits are still quite uncommon because often witnesses confuse seeing animal spirits with demon cats or hellhounds. They often haunt their previous owners and can be either benign or malicious, depending on how their owners treat them when they are still alive

Protocol: Be nice. These spirits still have an attachment to their owners and it's best not to provoke either them or their owners. Keep your documenting equipment on standby as most cases involving animal spirits only document quick animal-like motions or mannerisms only their owners recognize. Full body apparitions are rare.

6. The Omen Spirit. Rarest of the six spooks and the hardest to document. They typically appear to a particular person or group and they never stay long. Sightings range from pale shades to full-body apparitions.

Protocol: Be vigilant and keep your documenting equipment on standby all the time. You'll have a better chance to capture it on camera if the spirit is attached to a group rather than a person.

These are the Big Six though there are variations within each of them. Some may argue that since vehicular spirits behaved very similarly to detached spirits, these two should be within a supergroup of their own. But whatever your arguments may be regarding spirit classification, always keep your wits about and have a safe spook spotting session wherever you might be.

Another ghost OC I’m working on, they don’t have a name yet, but they’re Agender.

They lived in their car 1-3 years before death, and died near or in their car and now they haunt their smashed up car which resides at the Wreckers.

The employees have learned not to mess with the car which will set off car alarms (even though they checked, and it doesn’t even HAVE car alarms), open and slam shut doors, blast music, beep, and even drive a few feet if people attempt to damage or remove any part of it.

The ghost itself is usually pretty friendly and content if no one is attempting to destroy their home, and will sometimes turn the radio on to greet employees they like.

Most of the employees have taken to hanging out at the abandoned car on their breaks either to smoke, or just to hang out, and it’s an initiation for any new employees to light them a cigarette and leave it in an ashtray on the seat near the busted window.

So yeah.

I like these OCs I’m working on.

The top one is the ghost when they were alive, basically they died on accident (kind of) and haunted their own home, but eventually attached themself to someone who was visiting (the blonde dude in the green shirt).

The ghost isn’t violent at all, just REALLY clingy.

They’re generally shy, anxious, and kind of sad, and always clings to and often wraps their body around whoever they’re attached to at the time.

The guy can’t really see them, but thinks he’s haunted because of the fact that he can always feel someone touch his hair, and shoulders and the fact that he’s always got the chills.

I think the ghost is going to either be aromantic or quoiromantic, and Non-binary.

The dude is probably an AMAB non-binary boy, I’m thinking he’s maybe Asexual and Aromantic.

Still working on them, and haven’t named em yet.

Lizzie Borden House, Fall River, MA

“Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her mother forty whacks. When she saw what she had done She gave her father forty-one…”

Lizzie Borden was born on July 19th,1860 in Fall River, Massachusetts. She, along with her sister Emma lived with their father and step-mother in a two story, dark green, Victorian-style home. Life was not happy at the Borden home. Mr. Borden ruled his household with an iron-fist and had absolute control over everyone that resided there.

On the morning of August, the 4th , 1892 Abby Borden was the first to be murdered. She was in the guest bedroom when her killer struck her with the axe and landed the first blow into her forehead. She collapsed to the floor, dead. But that wasn’t enough, the killer then decided to drive their axe into her 19 more times.

At lunchtime Mr. Borden came home early and decided to take a nap on the couch. It was then, the killer slipped in through the window and attacked him from behind, then hit him 11 more times before the axe finally broke leaving the blade wedged into Mr. Borden’s skull. The handle was later found in the basement by investigators.

It was determined that this wasn’t a break in, but an act of hate and revenge. When authorities arrived and proceeded to question Lizzie, she acted in a cool, calm, demeanor despite finding her father and step-mother dead. She was arrested days later when her story kept changing. She was charged the 3 accounts of first-degree murder for her father, step-mother, and for killing them both. After 10 days it was determined that she was not guilty due to a lack of evidence against her and no witness to link her to the crimes. After spending 10 months in jail, she was released. However, the people of Fall River believed she committed the murders and shunned her from society. She and Emma received the full inheritance and moved to a classier neighborhood, buying a mansion that they called Maplecroft.

In 1918, the Borden home was sold to a private family who had problems with people who were curious and wanted to get a better look at the notorious home. It wasn’t until 1948 when the house was sold to the McGinns who restored the mansion and opened it up to the public.

The Borden house has a long line of paranormal activity tied to it. In the guest bedroom people claim to have seen an indentation in the bed as though someone was lying there, and they hear cries as well. Mr. Borden however continues about his business and has even answered a few EVPs from time to time. In the maid’s room people have reported cold spots and have seen an apparition in maid’s clothes doing chores around the house. An apparition of Lizzie herself has also been seen. She appears in the basement looking around, perhaps making sure that she has hidden all the evidence? The lights also appear to have minds of their own, turning on and off. Upstairs staff would hear doors open and shut, followed by disembodied footsteps. Shadow people have also been seen wandering around the house, particularly in the main hallway. Photos of misty forms have appeared in photographs taken in the living room where Mr. Borden was hacked to death. This place is so haunted that several paranormal shows have investigated here such as Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventures.

Although rather lengthy, I received many messages to make a post about this story. After reading, I understood why. 

We’d all known Dennis had less than a week and we’d all braced ourselves, for all the good that would do. This was going to tear us apart and leave a ragged gaping hole in all our lives. But that would be it. It would fit within our understanding of things and we could all assume he went wherever we thought people go. That would have been so much easier, so much less troubling than what actually happened.

This picture belongs to Jewel, "I have written in the past concerning the image of my 9-yr old twin's caught w/ the digi cam. This is no joke and there has been no tampering with the photo. The spooky thing is...she swear's she was alone when this image was captured and I for one believe her because My Camera is off limit's and I know who’s in my house. The camera is new and there's no way she would use it around someone. We have tried to figure out who the image is...guess what, were still trying. My family and I are all really spooked. It's just really phenomenal that it's real & we know it's real because when thing's happen none of us are the cause. TV's come on by themselves, thing's move & there is no one near them to touch them."
