𝙳𝙴𝙲𝙴𝙼𝙱𝙴𝚁 𝟷𝟽, 𝟸𝟶𝟸𝟻 . ┊

belle grins as she stands in her and jamie's shared bathroom in philadelphia, her camera propped up on the rectangular jewelry box resting in the middle of the two sinks.

"welcome to jamie and i's bathroom. today is. . . ," she trails off, picking her phone off the counter to check the date, "december seventeenth. so, jamie and i have been married for six months, and i think i may be pregnant. i've had pregnancy scares before, but i feel different this time."

"it is super early in the morning, jamie is at the gym with carter and cam so i thought it would be the perfect time to take a pregnancy test." she holds the wrapped test up for the camera to catch it. "i'm gonna pee on this stick and i'll be right back."

"okay, that's done." belle caps the last pregnancy test and sits it back down on the bathroom counter, "i'm really freaking nervous. jamie and i haven't really been trying for babies, but we also haven't done anything to prevent babies from happening. either way, we'll both be excited and happy."

"jack will probably be the most excited out of my brothers, and most likely will throw himself a party. he's always asking me when i'm making him an uncle and i'm sure he has a bet going on with trevor." belle nervously fidgets as she tries to think of anything to keep her mind from wondering. "why did i think this was a good thing to do on my own?"

moments later, the timer that she has set up goes off and she picks the first test up, her jaw dropping as she takes in the small 'pregnant' on the small screen, "holy fucking shit."

flipping the other test over, she jumps in place as they also read 'pregnant', and she holds them up for the camera to see them, "holy shit, i'm pregnant! i'm fucking pregnant! i wanna call my mom but at the same time i want to keep this between jamie and i until i can at least go to the doctor and confirm that i am a hundred precent pregnant."

"jamie should be home in a little bit so the next time you see us, we'll be telling him that he's going to be a dad! okay, i need to calm my nerves down."

the camera view now shows jamie scrolling through his phone on the couch, freshly showered from his morning at the gym with a few of the Flyer's players and with no mind that he was being recorded.

a sigh leaves his lips as he locks his phone, laying it on his leg and throwing his head down onto the back of the couch, "baby! come sit with me on the couch! we can watch a movie!"

a angelic giggle rings through the room before belle moves into the view of the camera, a view of the three pregnancy test tucked away in the pack pocket of her blue jean shorts. "hi."

jamie smiles widely, leaning over to kiss her softly, "hi."

"okay, i know we promised to not be those kinds of couples, but i got you a present for six months of being married." belle smiles warmly at her husband as her hand moves to the back of his neck, gently scratching at his scalp.

"hmm, that feels nice." jamie's eyes slip close for a few second before he opens them back up, turning his head to look over at his wife with a stern expression on his face, "what did i say about just buying me shit? it's my job to surprise you with stuff, not the other way around."

"this is a good surprise, i promise. now, close your eyes and hold your hands out."

"baby, i swear, if this is another one of your tiktok pranks, i'm sleeping on the couch for a week." jamie sighs before doing as she says.

belle takes the test out of her back pocket and places them on his hands, "okay. open."

"holy shit! no fucking way!" jamie jumps up from the couch, pregnancy test hitting the floor as he jumps around, "no fucking way!"

the blonde watches her husband run around their living room before he rushes back over to pick the best up from the floor, his eyes closing over as he made sure he was actually seeing what he was seeing.

"baby, holy shit." jamie sits on his knees in front of belle, forehead resting on her legs as he took the moment in, "you're pregnant. baby, you're fucking pregnant."

"i'm pregnant." she runs her fingers through his hair as tears fill her eyes, one falling from her eye as she blinked. "we'll, it says that i am, but i'm not a hundred percent sold. i made an appointment for the doctor for thursday."

jamie nods, lifting his head up from her knees and bringing his hand up to wipe the tears away from her eyes, leaning forward to kiss her on the lips a few times, i love you's between each one. "i love you."

"i love you."

the video ends with a silent moment between belle and jamie, their foreheads pressed together before the screen goes black and the worlds, "baby drysdale coming 2026" appearing on the screen.

“Mat! I’m getting in the shower!” Tyler calls out to her boyfriend of just a couple of weeks as she gathers her clothes from the bed where she had them laid out, "Kelsea is on her way! Let her in please!"

"Okay!" The Islanders player calls back, "Waffles or pancakes?!"

"Waffles!"

Mat shakes his head with a laugh as he hears the shower turn on as he walks towards the kitchen, getting everything ready to make them breakfast before they left to her rehearsal for her show tonight.

He can hear her singing from his place at the stove, causing a smile to appear on his face as he poured the batter into the waffle maker, closing the lid so that it could cook.

As he pulls two plates from the cabinet, someone begins to aggressively ring the doorbell, "Kelsea, you have a freaking key! Why do you ring the doorbell — oh."

Staring back at him were Quinn, Jack and Luke all with different expressions on their faces.

Quinn's grip on the duffel in his hand loosens, causing the bag to hit the porch as he looks up at the Islanders man with a glare on his face.

Jack's hand is still raised from when he was ringing the doorbell, eyes wide as his eyes shifted from Mat to the inside of his sister's house.

And Luke's jaw dropped at the sight of the shirtless hockey player before an amused chuckle left his lips at the fact that his sister had gotten caught red handed with a guy so early in the morning.

"What are you doing here?" Quinn questions, "And where the hell is your shirt?"

"That is a good questioned....," Mat scratches his nervously as he points behind him, "Let me...go find it."

Jack points as the boy rushed towards the bedrooms, "Did that — what?"

"Baby!" Mat rushed through the bedroom door where his girlfriend stood with a towel around her body as she brushed out her wet hair. "That was not Kelsea at the door!"

"What? Who was it?"

"Oh, you know, just all of your brothers!" Mat hissed quietly, running his fingers through his hair.

The brush in her hand slips, landing on the floor as she looks up with wide eyes, "What? What are they doing here?"

"I didn't stop to ask questions! Where the hell did my shirt go?!"

"It's dirty, Mat." Tyler says as she quickly gets dressed, "You just — change and I'll try to defuse the situation out there."

"Quinn looked like he wanted to kill me!"

With a sigh, Tyler quickly makes her way down the hallway towards the living room where her brothers were at, "Luke!"

Luke grins happily at his older sister, crushing her into a hug, "Tyler! Oh, you are in big trouble."

"Yeah, I figured." She mumbles as the oldest and the youngest pull away from each other.

"So, do you want to explain to us why Mat Barzal just answered your door without a shirt on?!" Quinn stands up to look at his sister, arms crossed over his chest.

"Oohh, he's giving you the dad look." Jack clicks his tongue as he turns around to look at his older siblings just as Mat comes from the bedroom now dressed in what he's wearing to the concert.

"Okay, so funny story, actually." Tyler laughs nervously as she rocks on the heels of her bare feet, "Soo, Mat and I are.... together."

"Toge...you're together?" Quinn raises an eyebrow.

"Quinn," Tyler sighs, "Can we please do this after my show tonight? I seriously do not have the time for this."

𐙚⋆˙˚◞♡

"Hi, friends." Tyler smiles at the loud screams that fill her ears as she sits on a stool in the middle of the large stage, halfway through with the show. "How's everybody doing tonight?"

The crowd cheers louder causing an even bigger smile to breakout across the blonde's face.

"That's what I like to hear! So, I had my whole set list set for tonight, but I wanna change things up a bit." Tyler spoke as she set the sparkling silver microphone on the stand, "Okay, somebody special is in the crowd tonight and I kinda wrote a song for him. It's also a new song that had yet to be released so you guys will be the first ones to hear it. This is Sad Songs For Sad People, and I promise, it's not what it sounds like." She laughs as her band behind her begins to play.

"When I'm drivin' down the road, I got my radio plain' heartbreak FM. And if I got blue skies, I don't know why but I'd rather see a cloud roll in." Tyler sings with a sparkle in her eye, "Boy, since I met you somethin' in me changed."

Quinn watches his older sister singing as he sits next to Mat, Jack and Luke on the other side of his. His arms are crossed and a straight look on his face, mad that Tyler hadn't told him about her and Mat, the two always telling each other everything.

"I guess it's probably time, I saw somethin' 'bout those eye, and your smile, you know what it does to me. 'Cause of you, I got somethin' new to sing. I write sad songs for sad people, somethin' 'bout the pain."

The older of the Hughes brothers smiles softly as he takes notice of the way Mat was looking up at his sister as if she hung the stars in the sky, his phone out as she recorded the blonde sitting on stage.

"I write sad songs for sad people, but I wrote this love song for you."

"Hey." Tyler's voice spoke from behind Quinn as he sits on the back porch of her house, everyone else in the house asleep, "What are you doing up so late?"

"Just thinking." Quinn mumbled as she moves to sit on the porch swing with him, knees coming up to her chest as she lays her head onto his shoulder.

"Penny for your thoughts?" She mumbled after a few moments of silence.

"Out of all the guys, another hockey player?" Quinn raised an eyebrow though she couldn't see him.

Tyler chuckled, "You knew Mat and I were friends."

"I didn't think you would date the guy!" He throws his hands up, "I thought you learned that lesson after Josh."

"Q, I loved Josh, but I wasn't in love with Josh. He was a good guy, trust me when I tell you that, but it just didn't feel right with him." Tyler says, playing with the rings on her finger, the same very one that she and all of her brothers have, only she wears her constantly.

"But if feels right with Mat? An Islanders player?"

"Being with Mat is like...a breath of fresh air. I feel like I can honestly be myself when I'm with him. And it's not like I intended to fall for him, it just happened over the course of our friendship." She looks out into her backyard as she talks.

"He makes you happy?"

Tyler smiles, "Yeah, he makes me happy."

Quinn sighs as he turns his head to kiss the top of her head, "I'm not going to tell you who date, especially since you're older than me, I just want you to be happy with who you are dating."

"I am."

"Good." Quinn pauses, "But I'll kiss his ass if he ever hurts your feelings."

She lets out a laugh, "I don't doubt that. I love you, bubba."

"I love you too, sissy."

When you see somebody Who erases everybody in the room I don't know what to say, I don't know what to do

Jamie hadn't meant to be up as early as he was, the bold black letters of the time plastered on the screen of his phone reading 5:30 AM while he sat out on the back porch of the hughes lake house.

Another Summer of spending time with his girlfriend, her family and a couple of their friends was a nice getaway from their every day lives of playing hockey and doing all of her social media things.

The hockey players mind flashes to the small velvet black box that he had packed away in his duffel bag, making sure to keep Belle from finding.

He can hear the backdoor slide open but he doesn't take his eyes off of the sun rising in front of him.

"Morning, Jamie." Jim's voice flows from beside him, taking a seat an the empty chair.

"Morning." Jamie sends him a half smile as his head turns to look at him for just a second.

"You're up early." He says after a moment of silence, sitting the coffee cup on the arm of the chair.

"Yeah, I just needed a breather before we get up to whatever Jack has cooked up or us today." Jamie tells him with a slight chuckle.

Jim lets out a chuckle of his own and they sit in silence for a moment before the father of four broke it, "I can see all the signs, son....so go ahead. Ask me."

Jamie feels the palms of his hands grow sweaty as he wipes them on the dark grey material of the sweat pants he's wearing, his words suddenly catching in the back of his throat.

"Um, I.....I want to ask Belle to marry me." He finally chokes out, eyes never leaving the sunrise in front of him.

"How long have you been thinking about this?" Jim turns to look at his daughter's boyfriend.

"For about year. I’ve had the ring since December 27, 2023." He tells Jim, finding a sudden interest in playing with the thing bracelet on his wrist with 'IMH' engraved on it.

"A year?"

Jamie smiles, "Yeah. It first crossed my mind when I was traded to the Flyers. I called her right after I got the phone call when we were in Memphis and she told me that we would be okay, I'd be okay. That's when was like, 'damn, i really think i want to spend the rest of my life with this girl.'."

"And when were you sure you wanted to marry her?"

"A week after I was traded, when she packed up her apartment in California to move in with me in Philly." Jamie has no hesitation as he speaks.

Jim smiles at the adoration in Jamie's voice when he talks about his daughter, "Jamie, when Belle first came home telling Ellen and I about you, I was honestly worried. I love my sons, and I love hockey, but I didn't want my daughter to date a hockey player. But listening to how she talked about you, how she talked about the way you treated her, I told Ellen, 'i'm happy that he can put this big smile on her face and a bright sparkle in her eyes'. That's all a father could ever want for his little girl."

Jamie listens, hanging onto every word.

"And if you wanna marry my daughter, I give you permission to do so." He says as they both stand up, Jim bringing Jamie into a hug.

"Thank you."

Ellen and Belle had decided to take the time to have a little girls day, leaving the boys and Jim at the lake house.

Jamie sat on the couch next to Luke, playing with a lose thread on his jeans as he watched the others playing video games, trying to think of ways her could ask four of the dozen hockey players staying.

Taking a deep breath, he just decided to rip the band-aid off and quickly blurts it out, "I wanna ask Belle to marry me."

The yelling that had been going on quiets down as everyone turns to look over at Jamie, the sounds of Luke dropping the controller to the ground following.

“Did I hear that correctly?” Quinn leans forward to be able to look at Jamie.

“Dude! Come on!” Trevor groaned as he stands up from the couch, pulling his wallet from his back pocket and slapping a twenty into Jack’s outreached hand.

“Buddy, you made me twenty bucks richer!” Jack smiled widely, “Make me an Uncle in six months and I’ll win another twenty!”

“Don’t make him an uncle cause I’m not giving him another twenty.” Trevor huffs sitting back in his place. “Marry your girl, Jamie!”

“This is really what you want?” Quinn asked, his tone serious as he looks at the hockey player.

“A hundred percent. Guys, I love your sister with every little ounce of my being.” Jamie tells them, “Belle is the only person that I see myself marrying.”

“And our dad?” Luke raised an eyebrow.

“Asked him this morning, he said yes.” Jamie wipes his hands on his jeans, growing nervous again under the gaze of all the guys.

“Well, you have my yes.” Jack grinned.

“When do you want to do this?” Quinn crossed his arms over his chest.

“This weekend, before we leave.” Jamie answered, “She’s always talked about getting proposed to on the end of the dock.”

Quinn smiled, “Okay. You reeled me in. Yeah, you can marry my little sister.”

“Luke, you’re really quiet over there, buddy.” Jack grinned at the little pout on Luke’s face.

With the pout still on his lips, Luke crosses his arms over his chest, “Fine, you can marry my sister.” He pauses, "But I would also like to become an uncle, just not in six months."

"Hey, baby." Jamie grins as he walks back into the lake house from being on the boat with the boys, leaning down to kiss her, "Got anything planned for tonight?"

"Hmm, no." Belle shakes her head, "Why?"

"I'm taking you out to dinner." Jamie tells her as she looks at him, "What is it?"

"What do I wear?"

"Something pretty."

“Okay.”

“Have I mentioned how pretty you look?” Jamie grinned from the driver side of the rental car her shared with Trevor.

“Hmm, almost every chance that you get.” Belle smiles over at her boyfriend, bringing her hand up to play with the hair on the back of his neck. “Tonight was nice, just the two of us.”

“It was.” Jamie pulls into the driveway of the lake house, “But I have one more surprise.”

Belle raised an eyebrow at her boyfriend as he quickly jogs around the front of the car to her side, pulling the door open for her, “Thank you.”

“Always.” He smiles, kissing her for a brief moment before he takes her hand and starts leading her down towards the dock.

A quiet gasp leaves her lips as she takes in the sight of the small boat dock.

Candles lit up the walkway going out to the end. Seven bundles of roses lined up the sides as well as rose petals scattered along the middle.

“Jamie….” Belle stops in her tracks as tears begin to rise above her water line.

Jamie grins as he takes her by the hands, pulling her close to him, bringing her hand to wrap around his neck as he let his own drop to her waist, “Isabelle….,”

“No, don’t drop to one knee right now.” Her bottom lips trembles as she looks into her boyfriends eyes.

A chuckle leaves his lips as he sniffles, “You know, Trevor caught me watching your videos the night before we met? I had found them a couple weeks before and watched them all, and I never picked up that you were related to Jack, Quinn and Luke. And then I walked out of the locker room, and there you were.”

“We went back to our house after dinner that night, and I couldn’t stop talking about how amazing you were so Trevor gave me your number and I was so terrified to do anything with it. Took me two weeks to build up the courage to text you and ask you to have lunch with me.”

“After, I went home and I called my mom. I’ve never told you this, have I?” Jamie stops to ask her, which she shakes her head no, “Good. I went home and I called my mom, and I told her, ‘This girl, she’s it. She is everything that I’ve been searching for. She’s it for me,’ and she just laughed me off and said, ‘Jamie, your young, you’ll have more than one experience like this’, and I told her, ‘watch me marry her.’.”

“We’ve been there for each other through every good, bad, up, down. Through sickness, career moves, through every hockey game, every time you needed someone to participate in videos for your channel, TikTok pranks, and your pregnancy scare last year.” Jamie kept going with his speech, never once losing eye contact with Belle as he did.

“And the other morning, I was sitting out on the porch, lost in thought about how I was going to ask your dad and brothers, when your dad came and sat down next to me. He could see it on my face that I wanted to ask him, and he asked me how long ago had I been thinking about asking you to marry me. For an entire year, the thought of marrying your had been in the back of my mind, but six months ago I finally got the courage to buy the ring."

"But the exact moment that I really knew that I wanted to have you for the rest of my life was last year when you packed up everything you made for yourself in California and moved with me to Philly." Jamie's thumb wiped away the tears falling from Belle's face, tears of his own falling. "Can I get down on one knee now?"

A sob rips through her throat as she vigorously nodded her head, "Please."

Jamie chuckles before pulling the ring box out of his pocket, dropping down to one knee as he looked up at the blonde, "Isabelle Marie Hughes, will you marry me?"

"Yes, of course!" A giggle leaves her lips as Jamie slides the beautiful ring onto her finger before standing up and bringing her into a deep, breath taking, kiss.

Loud cheers fill the air as everyone comes out of their hiding spots, Luke instantly rushing to his older sister, spinning her around in a tight hug.

"Oh, let me see the ring!" Ellen grabs her hand, smiling at the diamond ring resting on her finger. "Oh, my baby is getting married!"

“Jamie?” Belle stops in the doorway of her brother's lake house, a small pout on her lips as she looks at her boyfriend that's sitting with Jack and Trevor on the couch.

"Hmm? What's up, Pretty girl?" Jamie throws his head back to look at her upside down.

"I know I've been pretty harsh on the TikTok pranks—,”

"No." Jamie shakes his head as he cuts her off, "I'm not doing anymore TikTok's with you. Not happening."

"But Jamie!" She whines, moving so that she's standing behind him, wrapping her arms around his shoulders and moving her head so she was looking at the side of his face, "I promise, it's not a prank one! It's a cute couple sound and I want your reaction."

"Don't do it, dude." Trevor shakes his head, "It's a trap."

"Be quiet, Trevor."

Jamie lets a sigh fall from his lips before he caves, "Okay, fine! But if this is a prank, then I'm sleeping out here for the rest of the week."

An excited gasps leaves her lips as she backs away from the couch so that he can stand up, "Thank you! I love you!"

"Yeah, yeah." He waves her off as he follows her excited figure up the stairs, ignoring the calls from Trevor and Jack about how whipped he was. "Where do you want me?"

"Foot of the bed." She focuses on getting he phone set up so they were both in the shot before rushing to sit on his lap, wrapping her arms around his neck as one of his arms snaked around her lap.

"Bell, I swear—,”

"Just listen to it." Belle mumbles, resting her chin on her arm around his shoulder so that she was looking at the side of his face.

"Alright, now that it's just us, I wanna let you know that without you, I wouldn't be where I am today. And that I'm so happy that you're just in my life, and that you just make everything so much better."

Jamie's arm tightens the grip he had on her waist.

"I wouldn't know where I would be at, and I'm so grateful that I have someone that I can just talk to and express my mind to."

"Belle....," Jamie says in a whisper as he turned to look at his teary eyed girlfriend, feeling the familiar sting in the back of his eyes.

"You make me feel so appreciated and I really wouldn't know what I would do without you."

"Baby."

"It's not finished." She whispers, bringing her hands up to cup his face as a tear rolls down both of their cheeks, moving to rest her forehead against his.

"Listen! Don't ever question my loyalty to you either, because I'm always going to trust you with my fucking life. It doesn't matter how far apart we are, you'll always be on my mind every single day, it doesn't fucking matter."

Jamie has to pull away from the woman sitting on his lap so that he could wipe the tears, only for them to keep falling.

"Our relationship is not perfect either, and I'm willing to understand that, but the fact that we're both so mature enough to love each other, and willing to talk things out is what makes us special, and I want you to know that I love you for who you are."

“Fucking hell, baby.” Jamie lets out a chuckle as he wipes his eyes, moving his hands to now cup her face as he pulls her into his lap again, her legs going on either side of his body, “I love you, Belle.”

“I love you, Jamie.”

Trevor knew he could hear the familiar voice of Isabelle Hughes, a voice he had grown accustomed to over the long years of knowing the Hughes family, a voice that he called to listen to when he was having a bad day or just needed his female best friend to talk to.

So, when he walked downstairs to see one of her Youtube videos playing on the large TV he and Jamie had mounted to the living room wall in their apartment with said male watching it with a glint in his eyes, Trevor couldn't help the smirk that appeared on his lips as he rested his arms on the back of the couch.

"Dude, you've watched almost all of her videos already, haven't you gotten tired of hearing her voice?" Trevor startles Jamie as he speaks up, causing his best friend to snap his head in her direction.

"I will never get tired of hearing an angel talk to me....even if it does happen to be through a screen." Jamie tells him with a shrug.

"I can't believe you haven't caught onto the fact that she's related to--,"

"For the last time, it's impossible for her to be related to Hughes's. It's a popular last time." Jamie rolls his eyes, eyes going back to the TV.

Trevor chuckles, "Whatever you say, Jamie."

"They're not related!"

Trevor's loud laughter can be heard as he makes his way back upstairs, pulling his phone out as he dials a familiar number and presses his phone up against his ear.

"Hello?"

"Belle! I have a serious question for you." Trevor closes his bedroom door behind him, throwing himself onto his bed, "Will you come to our game tonight? I'll leave a ticket at the front of you."

"Yeah, sure, I don't have any plans."

"Great! I'll see you after! Love you, bye!" Trevor quickly hangs up, a smirk making its way onto his face, "They'll thank me at the wedding."

Belle looks down at her phone screen as she answers a few text messages while she waits for the Ducks players to leave the locker room after their showers.

"Princess Belle!"

The blonde doesn't have the chance to even look up from her phone as arms wrap around her waist and picks her up from the ground, "Trevor!"

The two best friends hug each other tightly as he sways them side to side.

Of course the two only lived thirty minutes away from each other, but usually one of them was always busy so they didn't really get together as often as either of them would've liked.

"Don't kill me, but I made you come for a reason." Trevor mumbles into her ear as he slowly lowers her to the ground, "I'm playing matchmaker again."

"Trev, last time you tried to play matchmaker with me, I had to pretend that Quinn fell down a flight of stairs to get out of the date."

"I know, I know. But I promise, Jamie is a nice guy." Trevor grinned, wrapping an arm around her shoulder to drag her with him,

"Jamie!"

Jamie turns around from where he was talking to Mason, eyes going wide at the blonde tucked into Trevors side.

"Meet Belle, Jamie." Trevor smirks with his arm still around Isabelle, "Belle, Jamie is a big fan of yours."

"Thank you." Belle smiled, holding her hand out, "I'm a fan of you guys. Kinda have to be since Trev forces me."

"I do not." Trevor looks down at her offended.

"So, uh, how do you know Trevor?" Jamie asks as he shakes her hand, nervous to be around the girl whose videos he always watches.

"Oh, Quinn, Jack and Luke are my brothers." Belle says, "I met Trevor around the same time that Jack did."

"She's been my best friend ever since." Trevor grinned, shooting Jamie an 'i told you so' look.

"It was nice meeting you, but I have a meeting in the morning, so I should make the 30 minute trip back to my apartment.” Belle smiled at the hockey player before turning to Trevor, “Don’t be a stranger.”

“Uh, Belle!” Trevor calls out to the blonde as she walks away, noticing the deflated look on Jamie’s face, “Are you sure you can’t come out to eat dinner with us? Please?”

Belle squints her eyes at Trevor as she glances over his shoulder to see Jamie pretending not be listening.

A sigh leaves her lips before she nods her, “Okay. But you’re paying for my gas.”

“Done!”

By the end of dinner, Belle and Jamie had really gotten to know each other, having spent the entire night talking to each other.

“Alright, I’ll talk to you later.” Belle wraps her arms around Trevor’s neck as they stood next to her car.

“Drive safe, please. Text me the exact second you get home.” Trevor tells her, watching as she nods while grabbing her keys from her bag.

“Oh, Trev!” The blonde calls out causing him to turn around.

“Yeah?”

“Give Jamie my number.” She smiles as she opens the car door, “Tell him to call me sometime.”

Trevor laughs as he walks over to the car him, Jamie and Mason drove to the restaurant, pulling his phone out to text Jamie the Hughes sister’s phone number.

“What—,” Jamie looks wide eyed at Trevor, “Dude!”

“Belle says call her sometime.”

tyler laughs at luke as he nearly trips, sitting in the chair in their favorite little diner that only the two of them went to. it officially was a month in of summer and all four hughes siblings were finally reunited after very hectic schedules of hockey practice, games, recording music and concerts.

while the two of them decided to go out for breakfast with each other, everyone else stayed back at the lake house to plan what they would all be doing the days that they would be there.

"was it really a good idea to leave mat at home with our parents and the others?" luke questioned the blonde sitting in front of him as he glanced over the menu placed on the table, both of them already knowing what they would be ordering.

tyler bites her lip as she glances over at her phone laying face down on the table, "not really, but i think he can survive an hour or two without me there to play peacemaker."

"well, i don't think he's a bad guy." the youngest hughes boy shrugged his shoulder, "i mean, the two of you have been together for almost two years. jack can't hold a grudge for too long."

"are you sure about that? 'cause i'm pretty sure he is still pissed off about that stuffed elephant that quinn and i accidentally ripped the trunk off of a whole ten years ago."

"luke! tyler! how are my two favorite people?!" Sally, the owner of the small diner, grins widely at the brother and sister as she walked over to their table, "it's always a pleasure to have the two of you here when you guys come home!"

"hi, sally!" the blonde stands up to wrap the older woman into a hug before sitting back down, "how have you and rodger been?"

"we've been good, sweetheart. we've been keeping track of the two of you and your careers." sally smiles at them, her notepad in her hand, "alright, the same as always? or have you both finally decided to try something other than those pancakes you always get?"

"the same as always, please."

"coming right up, sweethearts! and don't be strangers, come back before you guys get back to your lives and leave this little place." sally tells them before looking down at tyler, "and you, missy, bring that handsome boyfriend of yours around to meet me."

tyler giggles, "i promise."

"i'm paying, luke!"

"i don't think so. quinn would have my head if i made you pay for both of our food. i'm paying and that's --,"

"excuse me. are you tyler?"

both tyler and luke turn around at the sound of the unfamiliar voice, looking over at the tall man and blonde woman standing behind them with warm smiles on their faces.

"um, that depends on who's asking." the country singer chuckled awkwardly as she looked between the two people she had never seen before, rolling her eyes slightly as luke subconsciously stepped in front of her to hide her from the strangers.

"oh, honey." the lady tilts her head, looking at the blonde with watery eyes as a wobbly smile, "i'm carissa and this is brandon. we're your parents."

"it was supposed to be a closed adoption. they weren't even supposed to be able to find you." ellen shakes her head as she looks at her eldest child.

tyler and luke had left the diner after the run in with her 'birth parents' and they had come straight back to the lake house instead of doing what else they had left the house to do so that the two could tell their parents what had happened.

jim sighs loudly, crossing his arms over his chest. "how do we even know these are actually her birth parents? they could just be two crazy ass people who looked up the first famous blonde they could try and get money out of. i mean, she's doing well for herself in nashville and besides, it's been twenty-six years since they gave her up. why come looking now?"

"did they at least say what they wanted?" mat sits next to his girlfriend, a hand rubbing soft circles in her back as it was just tyler, her parents, quinn and mat in the kitchen, jack and luke taking everyone else out on the boat to give them some privacy to talk.

"no." tyler shakes her head, "they didn't make it past the 'we're your parents' part. luke pulled me out of the diner before i could ask them what they wanted."

"this is complete bullshit." quinn shakes his head, his jaw clenching in anger just as the doorbell went off, "i'll get it."

"should we call the adoption agency and see how they tracked us down?" ellen looks over at her husband just as quinn comes back in the kitchen.

"how about we ask them ourselves." quinn says, crossing his arms over his chest as the same people from the diner came in behind him.

"what the hell? how did you know where we were staying?"

brandon shrugged, "i'm a private detective. i got some of my people to help me look into it."

"isn't that some kind of violation of the adoption?" mat questioned as his hand moved from tyler's back to her bare thigh.

"and you are?" carissa turns to the islanders player.

"mat." the boy sends her a sarcastic smile, "the boyfriend."

"what is it the two of you want?" jim looks between the couple claiming to be his daughter's birth parents.

"we want to get to know our daughter." carissa smiles warmly as everyone in the kitchen.

"you want to get to know me?" tyler stands up from her seat, making sure to grab her phone as she did.

"yes, sweetheart. we want to know all about you."

"yeah, you want to know what i want?" tyler starts to walk out of the kitchen, "i want a fucking dna test!"

a week had come and gone by time they got the dna test back, and everyone -- including brandon and carissa -- were in the hughes lake house waiting to hear the results.

tyler sat nervously next to her boyfriend, playing with mat's hand out of nervousness which was a habit she's had for as long as she could remember.

"alright, are we ready?" jim holds the envelope tightly in his hand as he looks around the room at everyone.

everyone staying in the lake house nod along with brandon and carissa, all of the boys there for the summer having stayed to be there for tyler as support just like she was for all of them.

"okay." the male lets out a heavy sigh as he opened the large envelope and pulling out the papers, letting his eyes read over the words before he tells everyone what they say.

"well? dad." jack's leg shakes in anticipation as they all look at him.

"well, ty, they are your biological parents." jim tells his eldest child, who instantly crumbles in her boyfriend's arms.

"hey, shh. it's okay, baby." mat rubs her back as she sobs loudly into his chest. "come on, let's go get some air."

the blonde stands up and walks out of the lake house, mat following behind her as everyone sat in a stunned silence.

"what do the two of you want with tyler?" quinn turns to the biological parents of his older sister, a scowl on his face, "hum? the money she makes for herself? a chance to be in her spotlight because she's moving up in the world? what was your exact purpose of hunting her down?"

"quinn." ellen shakes her head at her oldest son

"no, i would love to know the answer to that as well." jim crosses his arms as he looks over at the two adults.

"we just want to be a part of our daughter's life." brandon says, "so that she can get to know her other siblings."

"no." tyler's voice catches their attention as she and mat come back into the lake house, "no, just because a piece of paper says that i'm your daughter, doesn't make that true. "they--," she points between ellen and jim, "--are my mom and dad. and the three of them--," she moves her finger to point to luke, jack and quinn. "--are my brothers."

"tyler--,"

she cuts carissa off, "twenty-six years, i have been waiting for one of you to come looking for me, to acknowledge that i existed. i didn't even have a fucking name when the two of you threw me away like i didn't matter! the two of them named me! they raised me! they put me through school! for twenty-six years, they have been mom and dad! jim taught me how to change my own tires, jim taught me not to let a man bring me down! jim is my dad! ellen, she taught me how to be a strong ass woman on my own! ellen taught me everything i needed to know about being a woman! they taught me what a mother and a father should be like!”

"the two of them put me through school! they were at every cheer event, they were there for every milestone in my life! every band concert, they were there cheering me on! quinn, luke and jack? the three of them let me know every single damn day, how much they love that their mother and father adopted me, even though i'm older than the three of them! quinn, he held my hand when i learned how to ice skate for the very first time! he was there to hold my hand when i thought that the guy i was with before mat was going to be my forever! luke, he's the youngest out of the four of us and he was there to cheer me up when i felt like i was nothing! jack, he's always been there to call me out on my bullshit, but he's also the one that gets into the bullshit with me! they are my brothers! the five of them, are my family!"

"and without them, i would not be where i am today. i would not have the opportunities that i've had without any of them! i wouldn't have all of these amazing, wonderful, caring people in my life if it wasn't for them." tyler blinks as more tears cause her vision to go blurry as she stands next to mat, grabbing his hand.

"i have the life you could only dream about having, and it is because of them! so, no, i'm not your daughter. she died a long time ago. so get the hell out of my lake house and don't come back!."

everyone sits in silence, both brandon and carissa looking at the blonde in disbelief.

"you heard her." quinn stands up to move next to the other side of his sister, "get the hell out and don't come back."

after the two are pulling out of the driveway, tyler is pulled into a hug by her brothers and their parents.

"we're proud of you, tyler noelle." ellen kisses her daughter on the forehead, a warm smile on her face and tears in her eyes.

"so proud." jim wipes her tears away as he kisses her on the top of her head.

"i love you, guys."

"we love you, too."
