so iβve only watched sn 1 and a bit of sn 2 of the boys, but iβm really digging hughieβs pseudo coming-of-age arc, which contributes to the oedipal themes of the show as a whole. in season 1 one of hughieβs minor journeys as a character was self-actualizing into someone his father was no longer babying. he lived with his dad & robin was going to be the one who forced him to gain independence from his father by having him move in with her. then she died, and he spent the rest of the season getting mixed up with the wrong ppl but trying to become his own person. in season 2, the father from which he is trying to grow beyond and metaphorically βkillβ is butcher (who quite literally refers to himself as daddy (π©) in the first ep) by asserting himself as a new sort of leader of the boys and by doing things on his own.
the other side of this oedipal coin is homelander, obviously, with his lust for a mother figure (stillwell in s1) and hatred for his father figure (vogelbaum). this doesnβt need much explanation. in the second season he is also in a fight to assert himself independently from his paternal company.
overall, this points to a consciousness of the charactersβ stunted growths and their inability to self-actualize without an element of conflict. this is a commentary on human nature but moreover our current culture of toxic masculinity. i hope they carry these themes forward in some shape or form, whether thatβs a continuance of the cycle or a subversion of it, with ryan and homelander + butcher!
Watching the hunger games and seeing Hughi kill Rue.π₯²
i wonder if anyone has made a mlp x the boys au yet...like what if the mlp characters as the the boys characters

DAY 7 No 7. IβVE GOT YOU. Support - Hughie Campbell - The Boys
Hughie stumbles out of the van after it was rolled in a blast from a supe. It results in him getting impaled with a piece of metal, forcing Butcher and Annie to rush him to hospital.

Soldier Boy and Hughie | The Boys 3x07 βHere Comes a Candle to Light You to Bedβ
πHughieπ
Hughieβs honestly such a lovable character in my opinion, so seeing him get to shoot up with Temp V was so pleasureful for me.
While the first episode establishes he lost his girlfriend in an instant from A-Train running through her, he was left holding her severed hands on the sidewalk. He had been searching for a way from that point on to find out how to grab the people he cares about and instantaneously escape from danger.
This is where teleportation comes in. Heβs capable of teleporting himself or anyone heβs holding onto away from a crisis, the same way he couldnβt do for Robin. He uses this to aid Butcher in Russia, Annie from Soldier Boy, and even Mindstorm that one time. In every scenario heβs squeamish while being made to fight, and instead opts to blink in and out, in a useful manner. His ability is inherently complimentary to another fighter, or at least his application of it is.
While he forgoes injecting himself with Temp V to help Annie fight in the S3 finale due to the lethal health effects of another dose, his newfound βabilityβ is supporting his significant other while she kicks ass.
π€Hugh Sr.π€
Hughieβs father had a minor role, and yet, analyzing his ability provides more clarification on the nature of Compound Vβs effects on individuals.
After being resuscitated from brain death by Compound V, he was initially fine with no changes, until he discovered his ability to phase through solid objects. He walked through hospital walls, cutting through patients in a gory body horror scenario. As he states, his wife Daphne abandoned him with their child son, walking through Hugh Sr. like he didnβt even exist to her. He is now capable of mimicking the person who hurt him most, much like Butcher.
In the case of Maverick, Andre, and kind of Ryan, they all match their specific abilities of their supe fathers exactly. This is because they were all babies when they were injected/born with V. This may imply that had Hugh been injected and gained intangibility, and then had Hughie injected as a baby, Hughie would have mimicked Hugh instead of developing his own ability.
To make matters potentially even more fascinating, intangibility and teleportation arenβt entirely unrelated powers. Both include averting danger by supernatural escape means. While both can escape harm, Hughie can blink away from danger, while Hugh is forced to trudge through solid terrain, much like how when Daphne left, he was forced to endure the pain of her leaving. However, when Robin died, Hughie had to watch as everything ended in the blink of an eye.
