maggie  gazes  upon  her  and  is  taken  back  to  her  own  past  lives  as  a  wild  woman.  she  sees  the  sunlit  days  of  her  maenad  revelries,  her  time  in  the  communes  of  old.  being  the  wild  witch  of  the  wood,  the  soothsayer,  the  one  who  could  read  the  birds  and  the  panthers.

it  all  feels  so  far  away  now.

watching  this  woman  take  herself  with  such  levity,  however,  despite  her  shock  at  maggie's  presence…it  makes  her  feel  good.  pleased,  even.

like  all  is  as  it  should  be.

“i'm  sorry,  i  didn't  know  how  else  to  approach,  i  didn't  mean  to  scare  you,”  she  says  with  a  small  laugh  and  a  smile.  “my  name's  maggie,  and  i  just…i  have  a  weird  question  to  ask,  but  you  seem  so…so  at  peace,  right  now.  i  was  wondering,  um…how  did  you  do  that?”

upon  asking,  she  feels  a  bit  of  shame,  but  she's  come  far  enough  to  not  let  that  stop  her  from  figuring  out  one  possible  approach  to  her  problem.

The sound of a woman's voice causes Niamh to stumble in surprise, arms flailing. Comically, she spins on her heel, arms outstretched to keep her balance. She knows she must look ridiculous and her face flushes red.

"I didn't see you!"

Not that she would be bothered by someone watching her dance. She's just embarrassed that she was caught off guard. She's glad that her sealskin is draped around her shoulders, glamoured to look like a shawl. It's held in place by a belt.

Standing upright, she blinks owlishly. Her hair is falling out of its braids, her feet are bare, clothes wrinkled. She looks every bit of the wild woman that she is.

"Are you all right?" she asks, wondering if she should be worried.

the  moonlight  is  comforting  to  the  new  goddess,  sharing  time  and  space  with  her  husband's  mother,  sharing  a  protective  light  she  had  worshiped  through  many  of  her  mortal  lifetimes.  now  she  walks  on  the  grassy  dunes  above  the  shore,  focusing  on  the  water  reflecting  the  moonlight,  the  soft  crush  of  the  waves  against  the  shore.  she'd  come  here  to  collect  her  thoughts,  after  being  tasked  by  the  goddess  of  wisdom  to  find  a  way  to  “quiet  her  mind.”

maggie  had  never  had  a  quiet  mind,  and  she  isn't  sure  she  could  start  now.

a  flash  of  gold  makes  her  draw  her  attention  back  down  to  the  ocean  side,  where  she  spies  a  woman  dancing.  her  joy  brings  a  smile  to  maggie's  face,  even  as  she  is  overwhelmed  with  the  bright  shining  spirals  of  her  aura.  she  seems  at  peace  with  herself;  happy  even.

she  wants  to  know  more.

carefully,  she  walks  down  the  dunes  to  the  dancing  woman,  sure  her  eyes  are  alight  with  the  warmth  of  the  aura  of  the  woman  she's  looking  upon.

“may  i  pause  you,  for  a  moment?”  she  asks,  voice  hesitant,  hoping  to  not  ruin  the  experience  -  or  completely  scare  her.  a  brief  self-check  reminds  her  that  she  is,  in  fact,  still  in  her  mortal  disguise.

good.

Legends say that selkies shed their seal pelts in the moonlight to dance upon the shore. They dance to the beat of the ocean waves, to the delicate whispering of the wind, to the crunch of the sand beneath their feet.

Niamh, like many selkies, loves to dance. She cannot deny her nature. And so in the moonlight, she spins, skirts flaring, hair flying, dancing to music only she can hear.

Lost in her dance, she doesn't notice that she is being watched.
