Barty's favorite color is black.
He loves it. His clothes are black, his nails are black, he jokes that his soul is black, though that's more to piss off his dad.
But he's never not liked it. The way it's just unapologetically there.
He's confident when people ask him, he doesn't need an explanation.
Until he meets Evan.
Then, it is harder to say what his favorite color is. Because suddenly, he has an obsession with green.
Not the green of grass- that's too bright. Nor is it the green of the apples that always sit on the table during meals at Hogwarts. It's not even Slytherin green, though he pretend it is for a while. It's paler, but deeper. More intense.
It's the green of Evan's eyes.
He can't admit it for years, he still insists that black is his favorite.
But when he's sixteen, and he finally pushes aside the fear and the self-loathing to admit his obsession is actually yearning, he meets those green eyes seconds before their lips touch in the most mind-blowing kiss he's ever experienced.
