man this piece of media i like that's bad and sucks would be so cool and awesome if it wasnt bad and didnt suck. unfortunately,
Sci-fi short stories are so efficient; they take 15 minutes to read and then you think about them for the next 5 years
one of my favorite things about listening to music is at the end of the song when you hear the musician laugh or talk to other people it's like they switch from some ethereal being back into a person
sometimes a piece of media just! grabs you by the throat and says, "hey buddy! I'm gonna irrevocably alter your brain chemistry now! have fun with that!!"
and then you just ! gotta deal with that ! you guess !!
has anyone else ever had a fanfic that just... haunts them? like it's been months and maybe even years since you read it, but it just lingers with you and you can never truly leave behind the imprint it made on you? and maybe it's just a single line, one sentence that you can't shake off, that takes up residence in your mind and stays there, feeding into your psyche and subtly influencing your brainspace and maybe even your writing or other works?
"but the genres i want to engage with aren't written with girl characters almost ever, let alone well!" you have three options. one is to find an indie creator working her ass off to create this on her lonesome and her comic/novel/audio drama is free or on itch.io for like 3$-15$. secondly is to try new genres and surprise yourself. thirdly is to roll up your sleeves and make it.
fans when a story has some sense of inexplicable mystery or intrigue beyond the scope of its borders: oh fuck we need to explain all the mystery and intrigue immediately it was so rude of the author to leave the story open like that

Firstly — Yes — I have already done a lot of research. I don’t need the basics explained to me or the fact that it is an incredibly diverse genre with examples good writing, bad writing, good social commentary, bad social commentary, expansive thoughtful worldbulding, raunchy porn without plot, and everything in between.
What I’m looking for with this post is personal experiences and opinions from people who read/ write this content since I am not one. Feel free to link any fics that exemplify what you’re talking about.

Spy x Family = romance for people who fantasize about getting married and having kids

Horimiya = romance for teenagers (seriously, this is the most “teenage romance” anime series I’ve encountered)
My Dress Up Darling = romance specifically for nerds and geeks (because Marin and Gojo are nerds in their own way and the show’s message is about embracing what you love)
Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It = romance for socially awkward people / people who don’t really get social cues
