jazz night - january twentysixteen
Cutting quick and deep
Sharp melodies
Sassy tones
At times smoother than cream
In a rich cup of coffee
•
Notes, unseen
Cascade down the blank page
Of a musicians mind
Spilling out clear and sweet
Softer than snow blanketing a bungalow
•
Chords, a medium to be measured with infinity
Spinning eigth notes like cotton on a spindle
Pricking your eardrums with phat, coordinated rhythms
Low and as thick as molasses
Higher than the moon
•
Fuzzy, soft and neat brushes lightly caresss the snare
Chunk, Chunk, Chunk the constant thrum of the guitar
Propelling the group as the bulky anchor, the bass
Crystal tones, loud and bossy, the trumpet commands
The saxophone pleads mournfully to be heard, like a lost colour in an intarsia pattern
Profitt's discography is full of influence from past and present rap legends, with his sound pendulum-swinging between classic RnB and contemporary rap. Personally, I think Profitt really shines when he takes from those East-West coast elements derivative of 90's rap.
The standout song from his small collection, "Get It By Tomorrow" really shows where this artist has potential to shine. The production value has been carefully curated to transport a listener through time, or better yet, teleport you to the lands of Los Santos, where you're bound to go 120 with Franklin in the drivers seat. Profitt's use of the classic elements of 90's rap, creates a blend of East-West coast sounds, reminiscent of Biggie and Tupac. The lyrics are quick-witted and leave impact with the listener, and the instrumental takes from the rising low-fi elements of today, further creating a sound that resembles that of yesteryear, with a touch of today.
Don't be fooled by the album graphics, after all, you can't judge a book - or should I say a song? - by its cover. This sound of music is not something that is commonly heard today, and with only THREE monthly listeners, and very little to know about the artist, jump on this train before anybody else!
sorry just dumping more messy speeddoodles of them bc they're in my brain 24/7. i'm sending kisses to everyone drawing them so beautifully but my only contribution to the jazterwave agenda rn is as always just being insane </3

Best Jazz radio station in the world, if you ask me!
Cool Jazz is my favorite music genre, and Vince Guaraldi knows how to set a mood.
this part in the la la land script just broke me all over again
Some Frank CD scans I found on discogs
I love this franchise very much and transformers will always be in my heart. In general, for a long time I could not take up drawing the faces of my favorite Cybertronian uncles. Jazz. Just classic Jazz from the first generation, well, maybe +- from the Cybertron trilogy. But yaaaa, how I liked drawing in this technique. I'm in love.
Not a rock one, but her voice...
I AM FASHIONABLY LATE?
As funny as it is to see American Miku as “Miku if she crawled out of my local gas station” (excluding Native American Mikus, they’re lovely) I thought I’d switch it up a bit!
As someone who’s watched too many music documentaries, I decided to make my own Ameri-kus! And apparently my art style improved A LOT while doing this (yes I’m going back to posting old art after this though)
Anyways, we have Jazziku, Disku, and Rock ‘n Miku (1980s inspired, requested by my mom)
Though it’s also important to note all of these music genres and therefore cultures WERE invented by Black people. Specifically queer Black people (Billy Strayhorn, Rosette Tharpe, and tbh early disco LIVED in gay clubs)
The changing shading style is very noticeable and tbh I don’t hate it!
I am having profound difficulty focusing for more than like thirty seconds today
I’m a huge fan of people making mashups with John Coltrane’s Giant Steps, since it’s such a weird challenge to bend most pre-existing melodies around the changes, and never has one make me do as much of a double take as this one. The first time I heard it, I hated it; And yet like two days later it was still in my head. I’ve gone through the stages of grief with the fact that I completely seriously like this
私が選んだ、David Benoit のクールな楽曲集です。選曲はかなりマニアックです。
This is a collection of cool David Benoit songs selected by me. The song selection is quite maniacal.
Claire again.
I finally got around to reading Bird & Diz written by Gary Golio and illustrated by Ed Young!
And I have to say that I am amazed that this book didn’t win anything in the awards season this year! First of all, the illustrations are amazing. Ed Young’s use of color and motion with his mix of pastels, ink and water absolutely thrills me. You can feel the music of Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie through Young’s illustrations. I felt like I was transported in among the lights and crowds of a stage watching Bird and Diz perform together. I have spent my morning listening to Bird and Diz at Carnegie Hall while I looked through the book again and again.
Golio and Young were obviously well paired for this book. Golio’s text and use of words are so delightfully in-sync with Young’s illustrations. Golio epitomizes the rhythm and sound of the music while also showing the playful nature of the back and forth between Charlie “Bird” Parker and John “Dizzy” Gillespie. His text trips nimbly between poetry, beboppin’ onomatopoeia and prose. And the whole book illustrates so beautifully and joyously that “Bird and Diz are friends... who play together just like kids.”
I absolutely love Bid & Diz. And I highly recommend that you go check it out at the library or get it from a bookstore. It will be worth your while!
As renowned as the Blue Note Sleeves are, that cover from Impulse steals this show. It's a great album too. 🎼🎼🎶🎺 🎷 🎹🎶🎼🎼
There is so much great music in the world, but there is nothing like the worlds of music in jazz.
