Facebook user Kai Steele posted this in the SWC group; the Maul in the background was apparently an unexpected surprise. πππ
People be all like; itβs Reyβs lightsaber. Itβs Lukeβs lightsaber. Itβs Mazβs lightsaber.
I canβt say that I particularly care a ton in this specific case but honestly, things would be so much easier if characters justβ¦ made their own sabers. And it would be easier if they really leaned into that while kyber semi-sentience/choosing stuff.
I donβt know many people who said Anakinβs lightsaber was Lukeβs saber. As far as I know, it was considered he was using/had his fathers saber. Other Jedi carried around othersβ sabers as well. Obi-Wan used Qui-Gonβs for quite some time before he went and made his own again. Cal Kestis carried around his own masters saber for, like, five years. If I remember correctly, I think it was Kit Fisto (maybe it was someone else, not entirely sure) he carried around his deceased padawanβs saber. This appears to be a fairly common practice.
I donβt care a whole lot, although I feel especially with lightsabers, itβs really the creatorβs saber, whether or not someone else uses it for any amount of time. And honestly, you can call it Reyβs saber or Lukeβs saber or whatever but I think, generally speaking, the saber will always be the builderβs saber. The one who bonded with the kyber inside. The one who made it.
Honestly, Iβd rather have a character bond with their own kyber crystal and make their own saber, than using someone elseβs/having it passed down and claiming it as their own.
But thatβs just my thought on the matter.
I feel like this whole season has been a subtle love letter to Jedi: Fallen Order
I like how the Bad Batch immediately jumped to agree with Omegaβs suggestion, because for once it takes her out of the immediate danger.
Omega: Can I go with-?
Hunter: Yes, yes you can!
Chuchi: But she doesnβt have-
Tech: Clearance? No problem, Iβll hack the imperial database!
Chuchi: Okay but sheβll need-
Echo: A disguise? No problem! Here take this poncho!
Calβs lightsaber is cool. I know the reason for the stances is because video game, but character and story-wise it makes sense too.
The different stances give Cal increased adaptability for different situations. It plays into the whole βSurvivors. We adapt.βmessage.
It also shows Calβs natural combat prowess. No one taught him to wield these other stances, he figured it out on his own, building on a strong foundation from Jaro Tapal.
Itβs also a great reminder of his scrapper days. Light sabers are notoriously difficult to build and modify, and for Cal to build such a complex weapon, it is clear how much Prauf taught him on Bracca.
Finally, I love what the double bladed saber represents for Cal. He builds it on Ilum after overcoming a moment of hopelessness. He takes the broken crystal and uses it to make a double bladed saber that can split apart. He adapts.
A lot of people comment that his double bladed stance feels really powerful compared to others, and I canβt help but wonder if thatβs on purpose. Story-wise it makes the most sense for it to be the one he favors. Yes, he usually defaults to a standard saber in cut scenes but thatβs the one he was trained on. Heβs also had the double sided saber since the first game, meaning heβs had five years of training with it. Heβs had the split sabers too, but he used them as a special attack within the double sided saber stance.
As much as I love Jedi Survivor, I donβt think the studio understands how crossguard sabers work. I understand having it be a heavy two-handed weapon because video game, but crossguard sabers arenβt from a custom emitter. When you bleed a crystal wrong you need vents to emit the excess energy. Itβs nothing game breaking but I think itβs funny.
Iβm sure that I am not the first one to come up with this headcanon, but I like to think that Cal changes his lightsaber color from its canonical blue to green after starting something with Merrin so he can match her magick. Because Cal is dorky like that.
Also, the lightsaber he uses technically isnβt his. It belonged to Jaro Tapal.
Anyway, thanks for my too-long meta analysis of me reading too deeply into things that probably only exist because of video game mechanics!
The Jedi Fallen Order recap is like:
Trilla: We seek a dangerous fugitive.
Then it hard cuts to a cute ginger with shaggy hair, freckles, and a poncho who has a little smile, a droid best friend, and who gave their lightsaber to a nightsister who was threatening him five minutes earlier.
Hereβs a quick little digital art piece of my favorite SW droid BD-1 (aside for Chopper that is) in celebration of May the 4th.
Thereβs nothing much else to say exceptβ¦May the Fourth be with you!
I try to make gif-animation. Want to make similar stuff with other characters.
βJediβ game series was my discovery of the last year. My husband gifted it to me almost four years ago, but Iβm glad, Iβd played it just two months ago (just in time).

INFO
Star Wars: All Types of Love week is a fandom event of fancreations, lasting a week, that celebrates love in its many forms! Since we celebrate romantic love and familial love often, we thought it might be time to give an opportunity for other kinds of love to shine!
Inspired by the Ancient Greek Philosophers and their seven kinds of love, we aim to showcase those different, less celebrated loves. Rooting for the little guys!
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
No sign-up, nothing. Just create!!!
Post during the appropriate week and youβre good!
We welcome any kind of creation, as long as it is truly yours. Even old posts being reblogged is fine! Old creations deserve as much love as new ones.
Fanfics, fanarts, moodboards, fanvids, fancomics, banners, playlists⦠An epic fic or a 100 word drabble, an amazing painting or a stick figures funny scene- we love it all!!
WHEN TO POST
Wednesday 7th of February, 00h00 PST, to Wednesday 14th of February, 23h59 PST.
HOW TO POST
Post under the tag SWATOLW during the week the event is running. Add the tag of the type of love you are representing.Β
Be sure to @ us so we can appreciate what youβve made and put it in the round-up!
WHAT TO POST
Star Wars characters, places, animals, games⦠Be it from the movies, the novels, the comics, the shows like The Clone Wars, The Mandalorian, Andor or even your own OC, the important parts are:
It must be from the Star Wars fandom
It must be about Love and that love must be not romantic or familial
To get a better idea of what we mean by that, you can read more about the seven types of love here. In short, we want to give a chance to shine to:
Love of Friends #philia
Love of Strangers #agape
Love of Partners #pragma
Love of Players #ludus
Love of Self #philautia
You can post about any of these, at any time of the week. There isnβt a day assigned to each type. The point is to create without pressure and celebrate all the types of love we donβt often focus on! The more of these you depict, the more we will love you for it!
QUESTIONS
βI love my two clones who are bffs, but they are clones. Does their love count as familial?β
Well, the truth rather depends on your point of view how you present it.
Pairs like Fives and Echo, and Rex and Cody, are usually understood in canon and fandom to be family. They can be friends too, but weβd prefer to focus on other pairs for this event. Post another time. Weβre sure people will love it.
Alpha-17 and Cody have a cross-generational friendship? As long as the way their relationship is described/shown isnβt the dynamic of big brother & younger brother, or father figure & son figure, itβs good!
Want to show off Waxer & Boil being two peas in a pod? We would love that! As long as it isnβt a ship or they, the characters, donβt feel like the other is kin in the way we understand it.
βI want to show my two Mandalorians who are Partners In Bounty Hunting, but they are from the same clan. Does this work?β
No. Iβm sorry, but it does not. We consider clan to be the SW equivalent of immediate family, a close circle, so itβs not the right event for this. But it does work if they are just from the same house or faction!
βCan I do two Jedi who are teammates and lovers?β
You can show any characters (two, three, fourβ¦) having a relationship that is sexual and based on love. As long as that love is not romantic.
If what moves your Jedi is the sense of purpose found in duty, the common love for the Light and the wider galaxy, the playfulness and affection shared between bed partners, these feelings can be as big as the moon, and it is still fine!
That is the whole point!
Feelings can be enormous and serious and important and still not be romantic or familial.
But if itβs shown or implied that the relationship is romantic/familial or turning so at some point, that is not what our event is focused on.
We know people are a bit tired from the holidays and that Valentineβs Day is a period often rich with events, which is why we put these conditions so it can be as low-pressure as possible. The point is to rejoice in all the breadth and the richness of the human sentient experience of love. In the love of Star Wars. And in the love of this community.
Be civil and show goodwill to participants and spectators. Be kind. YKINMKATO. Go crazy! Be creative! Have fun!
Love!

A strange thing about stories -- Though this all happened so long ago and so far away that words cannot describe the time or the distance, it is also happening right now. Right here. It is happening as you read these words.
