i'm reading the kids are alright: a turks side story and there's a bit where the turks have decided to look for jenova again, but there's a lot of interference from the people from edge, so when kyrie canaan gets attacked, tseng goes to check on her (and sort of kidnap her... dw about it), but she has a conversation with kadaj of all people and when i tell you tseng was freaking out.
"Opposite her was a teenage boy with silver hair and a well-structured face- and Tseng immediately felt his heart rate increase. He bore far too strong a resemblance to that infamous Shinra Company creation. Maybe it's just the silver hair, Tseng tried to tell himself, but the piercing eyes, too, called him to mind. A man once hailed as a hero who later tried to destroy the world.
"The memory of facing Sephiroth and all his fury came rushing back- being cut down, left for dead. It was all the Turk could do to stop his limbs from trembling as he looked the boy in the eye."
like DAMN. tseng is one of the most stoic, put together people in this universe- to get the information that from his point of view, sephiroth renders him terrified?? that's fucked.
rewatched advent children (complete) recently and it really just makes me so sad for kadaj. i mean, loz and yazoo don't even feel like people in the way that kadaj does- they don't have the sass and snark of sephiroth, they don't command a room the way that sephiroth does. but all kadaj wanted was to be loved. he wanted to be wanted, and his creation led him to believe he could only be loved by jenova (who is incapable of love) by becoming sephiroth, by becoming someone else entirely. kadaj is not sephiroth, he is a remnant of who jenova made sephiroth into. he isn't even a remnant of who sephiroth truly was- of the man that angeal and genesis and zack and lazard and glenn and matt and lucia got to know. kadaj likely doesn't know who any of these people are- because jenova didn't care about who sephiroth was, only his power as her puppet, her pawn. kadaj was never going to get what he wanted, and that fucking sucks.
SEPHIROTH NO-
I couldn’t get this image out of my brain after the new rebirth trailer
Haven’t drawn a chibi like this in a very long time so it is slightly shitted lmao
Jenova is really what started the whole Sephiroth x Bloodborne design concept. I mean, SHE is eldritch, cosmic horror. And where they are taking Jenova’s designs, like Dreamweaver, just scratches that cosmic horror itch i have. And i wish that Square really would just go full send with it. Jenova as a concept is terrifying. What she does and is capable of is terrifying. And i so so wish it to be explored in depth in the next installments of Remake. But for now, i will explore those concepts within a Bloodborne context.
I can't help but go HMMMM when it comes to Sephiroth and his goal of merging worlds. It reminds me of Jewish mysticism.
"The tree of life is a map that shows how creativity flows into manifestation, and how infinite possibilities manifest in reality."
GEE I WONDER WHAT THAT MEANS. IT'S NOT LIKE THERE'S MULTIPLE WORLDS HIDDEN INSIDE THE LIFESTREAM.
Wait then that means that Jenova is also in these many worlds and Sephiroth wants to reunite the worlds to make everything whole again.
If you defeat Jenova in one world, your not permanently getting rid of her cause her essence is scattered in the many worlds of the lifestream
Jenova is the corruption, but wait, if Sephiroth reunites all the world's, then that means that Jenova would be fully whole, and we get the chance to stop her once and for all.
But this obviously has to require some sort of huge sacrifice to do so.
Gee I wonder who is strong enough to take on a fully whole Jenova (if he gets a redemption of some sort)...
Hmmmm....
Interesting 😈
I like to think that it's him choosing to do the things that he's doing. Since in the OG, his will was confirmed to be stronger than Jenova's. Yes, he was vulnerable and his cells might have drawn him towards her. Yes, he might have gotten traumatizing visions, but all that and more made him realize that his entire life was a lie and how Shinra was manipulating him.
He choose to embrace the darkness, because to him that's the only way he could escape from his fate.
I still think that in Rebirth, Sephiroth chooses to be the bad guy.
Like Sephiroth is FED UP with Shinra and their shit. He is tired of being their tool. Finding out he was made up of Jenova's cells and created to be a perfect monster was the nail in the coffin for him.
Sephiroth never even revealed Jenova like this in the OG as a part of his plan, so why is he doing this? Isn't revealing her nature the last thing Sephiroth wanted to do?
Here's what I think is happening, Sephiroth is being forced to work against Cloud. He traveled back in time, still tethered to Jenova, hoping to stop her and save the planet from whatever destiny it's tethered to (yet it also has consequences as we see in the alternative timeline)
Yet he's still shackled to Jenova, so he needs Cloud's help in order to break free from her, but Jenova is taking advantage of Cloud's shattered mental state and false persona, so it's like a godly game of tug a war.
I think the Sephiroth who's manipulating Cloud and trying to convince him that Tifa isn't real is the past version of him from the OG, while the real Sephiroth, the one who we've been following all along, is trying to break free from destiny's grasp, stop Jenova and save the planet.
I could be wrong, and this is just a retelling of the OG, but I don't buy that one bit, especially when both the developers and part of the story say otherwise. Anyways, that's what I grabbed from this scene.
Holy shit, this video…with this song….oh God I’m actually gonna jump this time…..

Old concept sketch of Sephiroth gazing up at “Mother” :)
COME BACK TO THE WOMB! A allegory @altocat mentioned and I wanted to draw it! Kudos to the evil alien mom.
