Everyone present was stunned, never having expected such a turn of events. Jin Guangyao mournfully cried his wife's name again and again, a hand cupping her face. His eyes were wide, and his tears fell like rain onto her cheeks. Lan Xichen said, "A-Yao, Madam Jin, she... I'm so sorry." Jin Guangyao looked up. "Er-ge, what is going on? Why would A-Su suddenly kill herself? And why would you all suddenly gather before Fragrance Palace to make me open the secret chamber? Is there something you're not telling me?" Jiang Cheng, who had arrived late to this impromptu gathering, said coldly, "Zewu-jun, please provide an explanation. We are all in the dark as well."
I don't think we're ever given a plot-driven explanation for why Jiang Cheng was late here, and I'm unclear if there's some kind of character note we're supposed to be taking from it (I personally like to imagine he heard a commotion going on outside his window, was like "Ugh, I bet Wei Wuxian is stirring up some drama again. Can't believe I have to deal with this again after 13 years," and shoved his pillow over his head, before remembering Jin Ling might be getting into trouble and getting up with a heavy sigh).
But there's something kind of darkly hilarious about the idea of him showing up late to find Qin Su bleeding out on the floor, Jin Guangyao sobbing over her dead body, and half the cultivation world standing around yelling accusations at each other. I just picture him bursting in there like that one Community meme gif:
lwj during wwx’s cool 3 month vacation be like
Wei wuxian really said “no you” and died with his sister
a little sketch of this idea that won’t leave my little head
I LOVE ELDRITCH HORROR WWX SO MUCH, like PLEASE mess him up even more! Lwj finds his creepiness attractive.
It's the lan genes
Idea;
Wei Wuxian returns from the burial mounds... changed.
Obviously he's changed; anyone would change after such an experience, not to mention his new proclivity for demonic cultivation.
But it's more than that. Lan Wangji can't put his finger on it, but there's something... off, about Wei Wuxian. No-one else seems willing to directly acknowledge it, but they feel it too.
Lan Wangji approaches Wei Wuxian as he digs up corpses for the army, and when Wei Wuxian stands to speak to him something deep in the corner of Lan Wangji's mind cries out, telling him that something isn't right, but he doesn't know why. Something about how Wei Wuxian stands, the movement of his body, seems wrong. But Lan Wangji can't put his finger on why.
Jaing Cheng is directing disciples as they prepare to march, and Wei Wuxian suddenly whispers in his ear from just behind, calling his name. He flinches and turns around to scold him for playing around, only... Wei Wuxian is over ten paces away. He's waving at Jiang Cheng, clearly having just called him, but he'd sounded so close. Jiang Cheng had felt his breath on his neck! No, he must be mistaken...
Nie Huaisang finds himself distracted when speaking with Wei Wuxian. Something doesn't seem right about his eyes, but he can't quite figure out what. The color? They're dark gray, but weren't they silver? Is there more pupil than normal? It something off about the shape? He finds that if he tries to focus on it, to figure out what it is that's bothering him, Wei Wuxian's features almost seem to blur; he can see the man clearly, but for some reason he can't pin down what about his eyes seems strange.
There are a million other stories. Sometimes his shadow doesn't match him. Maybe his voice holds a strange, echoing quality. Sometimes you can almost hear the cadence of an entirely different voice hidden in Wei Wuxian's tone. From the corner of their eyes, sometimes people see odd shapes on his figure; like an arm where it's not supposed to be, a shift in his skin, his hair blowing in the wind where there is no wind.
No too stories are the same, and no-one can actually describe what it is about Wei Wuxian that seems off. The only thing everyone can agree on, is that something is very, very strange about Wei Wuxian.
If I missed someone my bad. And this is not who is the better friend to wwx, just who do you feel has the best friendship with him
EDIT: I've done some thinking and the "best" can just be whoever has the best vibes with him/most iconic or just whoever you like the most, should've made that clear sooner mb you guys 😅
So the premise of the whole au is that WWX is tired of people insinuating that the only reason he has as many privileges he does in his life is because he is JFM's bastard son.
Since JFM hasn't stopped the rumors its A) making seem very likely that it's true and B) making YZY insanely pissed.
Fast forward to the CR Era WWX and the other Jiangs get pretty on edge anytime someone brings his parentage since that particular conversation topic leads to nothing good.
One day when somebody finally asks WWX about it he decides enough is enough, that he is tired of letting random people make assumptions about his parents, how it's staring to strain his relationships with his siblings, how YZYs rage is steadily increasing towards everyone and how the one person who could end the whole thing refuses to ever say anything.
So in between his detentions with LWJ he begins to research different identification spells and relics in hopes of finding one that could reveal parentages or bloodlines but can't find anything (which they probably have in canon but shhhh we need the story to happen) but he is left several ideas running around his minds and gets to work.
Fast forward through many experiments, one expulsion, and many more months WWX has made the world's first DNA test. It's a tailsman that will either glow when it recognizes a blood realtion between users or crumble to ash if there is no blood tying them together. Despite spending several months making this tailsman WWX hasn't found a good opportunity to bring the subject up to JFM so he slowly starts to believe that he won't get a chance to use it use it.
But fortunately for him Lotus Peir is hosting the next the Discussion Conference and you know some shit will eventually go down. Let's just say that after most the events are down JGS says some shit like "oh how generous and brave of you to make your bastard your head disciple despite the backlash, how do you and your wife deal with it??". And you can instantly feel all the rage and tension coming from everyone room but then WWX realizes that this is a great (not great but beggars can't be choosers) opportunity to use his invention and prove that his parents are his parents, opens his mouth and says "Sect Leader Jiang is not my father and I can prove it right now if yall let me".
So after he explains himself (despite the death glares from YZY, the greedy looks from JGS and someone in the back who keeps grumbling how this ridiculous and borderline unorthodox) and provides actual proof from two willing volunteers that his tailsman is safe and that it works he finally gets to test himself and JFM and proves once and for all that all those rumors were bullshit CSSR had never cheated on her husband.
Of course some in the audience are still more interested in stirring shit up instead of keeping their mouth shut and try to imply that since his station isn't as high as the real heirs they shouldn't trust his word. And JC who has been shockingly quiet during this whole ordeal finally snaps and goes "if you refuse to believe that his invention works despite having proof before they went maybe I should go and get tested right now so you can stfu!!"
But YZY freaks the fuck out when he says this and starts going on about how he has nothing to prove, that she forbids him to take the test and everyone in the room are now just kinda side eyeing each other and her because why would she not allow her sects heir to take this test? Unless...
Somehow JFM gets JC to take the test, despite YZYs vocal protests, and the tailsman paper crumbles between them.
The room goes dead silent before WWX offers up a flimsy excuse that the tailsman may have made an error, but it's too late now. Everyone knows that the tailsman works and now they know JFM is not JC father.
That Lotus Pier's heir is a lie.
Nobody asked but for the last several days I've been thinking of an au where in the Cloud Rescess Era (or adjacent timeline) WWX invents like the first DNA test and through a series of events reveals that JFG is not JC's father.

hey so we put your morally grey character in a fandom. yeah half the fanbase makes them into a perfect angel who did nothing wrong and the other half depicts them as a cartoonishly evil villain who hurts people for fun. no we dont know how to explain that people can do bad things for good reasons or good things for bad reasons. sorry man

Things had gone wrong that night. They were night hunting (Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji, Jin Ling, him and a handful of Lan disciples) in a remote place, a forest located two days’ walk from Gusu. Jiang Cheng had been reluctant at first, but ended up joining the expedition, along with Jin Ling.
But then naturally, things went wrong. They were attacked by a particularly vicious ghoul and he ended up injured while trying to create a diversion. The group had to scatter. This is how he found himself alone with that Lan disciple Wei Wuxian doted on all the time (Sizhui, was it?). The boy kindly offered to help him walk to a safe place in order to treat his injuries and the sect leader had to swallow his pride and let Lan Sizhui support him for the rest of the way. They limped to an abandoned cave just as the wind was starting to blow harsher. There, Lan Sizhui treated him with a gentle poise and the patience of a saint, while Jiang Cheng cursed at Wei Wuxian during the whole process.
Surely, the Yilling Patriarch’s bad luck had followed them to the cave because shortly after, a storm broke out outside. It seemed like their rescue would have to wait until the weather settled down. Lan Sizhui insisted that he lied still while he lit up a fire in a dry corner of the cave. Jiang Cheng pensively watched as the boy took out their provisions. The Lan disciple couldn’t be more than 20 years old, yet his eyes showed assurance and wisdom, which made him look much older, and more experienced than the other boys his age. He spoke in a soothing voice that put the sect leader immediately at ease. The Jiang sect leader was secretly glad Jin Ling had such a friend.
After a few hours, the Jiang sect leader started shivering and aching all over and Sizhui declared that he had a fever. The cold and the pain kept him drowsy but unable to sleep and he found himself whimpering pitifully, delirious from the fever. Sizhui tried to make him drink from a flask, hoping to soothe his pain with medicine, but the bitter taste only soured his mood further. The boy helplessly put the flask away and went to rummage through his bag. For a moment, Jiang Cheng heard nothing and wondered if the young disciple had finally had enough and given up on trying to heal him.
Suddenly, he heard the clear sound of a guqin in the cave. A few light notes and then, that soothing voice again. It was a lullaby. The kind a mother would sing to a stubborn child to put him to sleep. As soon as he recognised the melody, a quiet sob escaped him. This wasn’t just any lullaby; it was what his sister used to sing to him and to Wei Wuxian when they were still two rowdy boys, always sneaking out of their room to go swimming in the middle of the night. When Jiang Yanli had died, he had thought that he would never hear it again, for his sister made up the song entirely. Only Wei Wuxian and he heard it and he wondered in a corner of his mind if all this wasn’t just an hallucination due to the fever. He felt his heartbeat slow down a little. As tears slowly crept up his eyes and rolled down his cheeks, he finally fell asleep.
Later that night, he dreamt of fire. Everywhere around him was chaos and death. Hearing a small gasp and the rustle of leaves behind him he turned around. His eyes met those of a toddler, no older than 3 or 4 years old, looking back at him with horror on his face. Jiang Cheng took a step forward and the child stumbled back with a whimper. Suddenly, from behind him, Wei Wuxian’s panicked voice screamed.
“A-Yuan!”
The next day, his fever subsided and help finally came. Wei Wuxian was there too, and he looked very happy to see them both safe and sound. He rushed towards the boy and called out to him in a sigh of relief.
And so, Jiang Cheng knew.
I probably made some mistakes since english isn’t my native language, sorry about that !
I live for Yunmeng bros (also Wei Ying is best big brother )
- I keep aggressively posting fan art these days, sorry about that -
Ok I think we all agree that Wifi planting lotuses on burial mounds is the sweetest thing ever.
BUT imagine one sec...
Jiang Cheng going to burial mounds after wwx's death to get rid of the last traces of wwx's very existence. The last thing he expects is the gorgeous sight of a full pond of blooming lotuses. The flowers are but a flagrant evidence of the love, care and patience wwx showed to the very end, of the hope that animated him. JC collapses and cries until he passes out from the exhaustion. He falls asleep to the smell of lotuses and home
Panther Wei Ying and Tiger Jiang Cheng | Пантера Вэй Ин и Тигр Цзян Чэн
I keep thinking about this moment. About how Jiang Cheng must’ve felt when Zidian - the weapon that had served him for so many years, the weapon he inherited after his mother - suddenly stopped listening to him. The moment when he no longer felt its power.
His expression here just breaks my heart. The way he looks at Zidian, trying to understand what happened, trying to process this emptiness that he suddenly feels.
Because back then, Jiang Cheng doesn’t know yet that others also have been affected. He can as well be the only one - what he does know though is this feeling. This lack of power, the sudden emptiness, he knows it. Because he’d experienced it before. He’d felt what is it like when your golden core is gone. And he’s never forgotten.
In that moment, in the midst of battle, he lost his spiritual power and his very first thought when he realizes that is simply: Again?
How often do you think this haunted his nightmares? This awful feeling of hopelessness, the fear of it repeating itself and rendering him useless? The very fact that he got a second chance was a miracle, something probably not supposed to happen. Maybe he already had wondered if he was living on borrowed time, because how could there not be a price?
There was, but he wasn’t the one to pay it. He just didn’t know that.
So right there, in that very moment he gets taken back to all those years ago, to the days when he lost everything and could only lay and look up at the ceiling, to a different time that yet is now so vivid in his mind - does he think that his fear has caught up with him at last?
And then he hears shouts along the battlefield - cultivator after cultivator stating that they cannot use their qi - and only then does he realize that although there is an emptiness, it is not as profound, not that bone-deep void that made him collapse in on himself.
It turns out right when they’re in the cave and medics state that everyone has lost their qi only temporarily - and of course their situation is still bad, because they are surrounded and stuck and the only people able to fight are Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji, Wen Ning and a bunch of children - but Jiang Cheng is relieved. Because he’s been through worse.
Convince me this wasn’t what everyone was thinking and I’ll pay you $5

Favorite character introductions: Nie Mingjue, Nie-zongzhu, titled Chifeng-Zun.
I didn’t add the slow motion, Wei Wuxian did. This is his story, after all.
part 1: Song Lan / part 2: Lan Zhan / part 3: Nie Mingjue
Bonus: Fangirling over Chifeng-Zun (bonus bonus: Lan Wangji is Not Amused)

100.) Happy 100th post, everybody!
Yo I think a about this post a lot
One of my favourite Untamed moments of NHS so far is the soft smile of "ah, home sweet home" while everybody else are clearly "is the Unclean Realm a supervillain lair?" So, a prompt: 5 times the Nie sect's perfectly ordinary sect things got everybody else freaked out, much to NHS' puzzlement.

Even Nie Huaisang would agree with the general consensus that he’s a useless good-for-nothing, which is why he doesn’t understand everyone’s expressions when he helped out in making dinner when they’re all night-hunting. Scorn he’d be used to, but everyone is just goggling as if he’d suddenly summoned lightning.
“Were you not planning on eating the boar or something?” he asked, looking around in confusion.
“You broke down the entire carcass into edible pieces in less than an incense stick’s worth of time,” Jiang Cheng said, voice a bit strangled. “Not just the meat pieces, but the offal, too.”
Nie Huaisang shrugged. “My clan were originally butchers. It’d be weirder if I didn’t know how to do that.”
“Could you do it to a person?” Wei Wuxian asked, eyes alight with mischief.
Jiang Cheng smacked him.

During the preparations for the Phoenix Mountain hunt, Wei Wuxian gets a brilliant idea and starts writing furiously on pieces of paper in one of the Jin sect’s sitting room.
“Can someone get me some blood? Human, ideally, but pig will do,” he asked at one point, having already scabbed up all his fingers in making draft talismans, and when a bowl was put next to him, he doesn’t think too much about it, only happy that it didn’t seem to ever empty.
After a while, he looked up and noticed that Baxia was propped up on the table next to him, dripping blood into his bowl. Definitely human, too. There was no apparent source for it.
He stared for a while, then went to find Nie Mingjue.
“Did you just stab someone?” he demanded, and Nie Mingjue shook his head. “Then does your sword just regularly drip blood?”
Nie Mingjue shrugged. “I’ve stabbed a lot of people. Why wouldn’t it?”

“I don’t know what the problem is,” Nie Huaisang protested. “You wanted me to watch him, he was tired, he asked for a bedtime story!”
“You told him the story about people getting made into meat pies!” Jiang Cheng hollered, holding a wailing Jin Ling in his arms. “Right after he’d had meat pies at dinner!”
“It’s tradition to tell that story over meat pies. Don’t you remember the first time I told you that story? You and Wei Wuxian both turned green.”
Jiang Cheng glared at him and comforted Jin Ling to no avail.
Nie Huaisang tapped the child’s shoulder with his fan. “Stop crying. You know what happens to little boys that lose their temper.”
Jin Ling stopped crying at once, his face pale.
Jiang Cheng looked at him, then back at a smiling Nie Huaisang, then back again. “What did you tell him now?!”

“Today’s not a good day for a visit,” Nie Huaisang said apologetically. “We get ghosts today.”
“You’re a cultivation clan and you allow ghosts?” Jiang Cheng scoffed.
“They come here to be purified. Anyway, they’re really cute ghosts.”
“…what?”
“Mostly animals,” Nie Huaisang said. “Side effect of cultivation by butchering – at first it was mostly livestock, but after a while we started getting all sorts. Drowned kittens, run over puppies, that sort of thing.”
“…there are puppies?” Jiang Cheng said blankly. “Ghost puppies?”
“Mm, yes. Do you want to pet some of them before they go? They’re usually not powerful enough to take more than a very small amount of yang energy, and petting them makes the purification process easier.”
“Right. Show me the way.”

Nie Mingjue was unconscious, having put himself between his sworn brothers and their enemies as they tried desperately to escape the trap they’d been lured into; he’d been stabbed, cut or whipped a number of times before they finally managed to break their way into the cave and escape. Lan Xichen had put him on his back, while Jin Guangyao carried Baxia, his fingers dipping down to caress the blade every few minutes.
“As much as I appreciate dage’s sacrifice, he’s probably the only one who knows his way around this maze,” Jin Guangyao said after they’d been wandering for nearly a shichen without finding anything but more cave, but he settles down a bit after Lan Xichen gives him a look. “I didn’t mean anything by it, erge, you know that. I just meant that it would be nice if we had a guide – ah!”
“What happened?”
“Dage’s saber – it bit me!”
Lan Xichen blinked. “…I’m sorry?”
“The beast head on the hilt! It bit me!” Jin Guangyao took another step, yelped again, and retreated.
Lan Xichen frowned thoughtfully and looked ahead, then turned to go down another fork. “Anything now?”
“No, it’s quiet. Why do you – no. Erge. We’re not following the directions given by a saber! Who would do that?”
“It’s not a saber, it’s Baxia,” Lan Xichen said calmly. “It’s fine. Nie Mingjue always did say Baxia had a better sense of direction than he did.”
“I thought he just meant that he didn’t have any,” Jin Guangyao said. “I didn’t think he meant…”
He trailed off, a strange look coming into his eyes.
“Do you think Baxia took it personally, back in the Sun Scorching Palace, when I said – ow!”
“Maybe you should consider apologizing,” Lan Xichen suggested, doing his best to hide a smile.
..... You know what your right
