For a show that’s set in a tropical island, i feel like there isn’t enough sunrise/sunset shots. Imagine your favourite couple from the show having a heart-to-heart but in the back drop of the most gorgeous and orange sunset imaginable, the waves glittering like gold, their faces practically glowing in the golden hour.

Maybe I just really like sunsets too much.

what if

.. Suliet pre-crash AU

what if Sawyer met Juliet when he was in Miami for whatever reason and they started dating and they were on Oceanic 815 together

or maybe i’m just yapping

(he takes her to Sydney as a “vacation” but on their flight to LA their plane crashed 💔)(they find each other after the crash and cry 💔)(they have a little tent together 💔)(Sawyer’s a little less of an asshole to everyone because he has Juliet with him 💔)(Sawyer was planning on proposing to Juliet either in Sydney or back in LA but he couldn’t because he killed the shrimp guy/because their plane crashed 💔)

do you see my vision or does this screw up their character development

Would Shannon probably call me a slur given the chance? Yes. Would I still defend her character to the ends of the Earth? Of course.

Shannon Rutherford Defense Squad reporting for duty!

Shannon Rutherford Defense Squad, unite!

Shannon Rutherford Defense Squad, Unite!

Point #1: Self-deprecation. Shannon's been told she's "useless," stupid, flaky, etc for most of her damn life (I blame Sabrina Carlyle, may she rot in hell), and at some point, she started to believe it. We saw the last shreds of true confidence leave her when Sabrina the Middle-Aged Witch denied her the opportunity to take the internship she earned. Shannon knew she would succeed, she was so proud of herself (and rightfully so!) for having earned a spot, and she had to give it up and listen to her evil stepmother tell her yet again that she didn't have what it takes. It was her breaking point, and from there on out she became determined to be exactly who Sabrina said she was. Why should she try to be anything else? No one believed in her, anyway, not even Boone, who constantly repeated his mother's catchphrases. Shannon was forced into a box, and though she tried to break out of it several times, she kept being forced back in until she stopped resisting.

Point #2: Beauty and Brains. Shannon is smart as hell. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to learn a new language AT ALL, let alone without formally studying it?? She became at least halfway fluent in French just by being around people who spoke it and picking it up. THAT TAKES SOME SERIOUS BRAINS, PEOPLE. I studied French for 5 years and I don't think I was ever as good at it as she was. She is innovative, she solves problems - using Vincent to track Walt when she saw him in the jungle? Genius. Getting Charlie to catch that fish? Hilarious and inspired.

Point #3: Grief and Trauma. Shannon loses her dad very suddenly at an early age - I was just a bit younger than her when I lost my dad in a similarly unexpected way, and let me tell you I would not wish that shit on ANYONE. It changes you. It alters your soul. Shannon's world was turned upside down, and she was left with a stepvillain who truly didn't care if she lived or died. (Fuck Sabrina Carlyle, have I mentioned that?) Even after enduring a trauma like that, Shannon remained optimistic and worked hard to get the future she wanted. Had she had even an ounce of support from Sabrina, things would have been entirely different, but "oh no, the teenage girl is kind of flighty and doesn't always know exactly what she wants, so instead of actually teaching her anything, I need to teach her a LESSON and cut her off completely because I'm an evil bi--" Okay, I'm done, I'm calm, I'm fine. I detest Sabrina Carlyle a completely normal amount.

Point #4: Love. Shannon had such an immense capacity for love! She bonds with Claire and Sun early on, and those two are beloved (for good reason), so why does Shannon get overlooked and hated on? (Misogyny.) She obviously loved her dad pretty fiercely. She bonds with Walt, she takes care of Vincent, and of course, she is so tender toward Sayid.

There is so much more I could say, but we will leave it at that for now. In short, Shannon Rutherford deserves the world, and I will stand ten toes down to defend her any day of the week.

I raise you: Actual good person whose circumstances lead them into an unethical lifestyle. They’re dangerous because you can’t see through their manipulation—there isn’t one. The concern they show for others is genuine, and the things they do are because they actually want to help. But when push comes to shove, they will betray you (they won’t like it, they do care for you) because they have to in order to survive. The betrayal hits harder because it wasn’t a ruse.

I am, as always, talking about Kate Austen.

10 Traits That Make a Character Secretly Dangerous

❄ Disarming Humor. They’re the life of the party. Everyone’s laughing. No one’s noticing how much they aren’tsaying.

❄ Laser-Sharp Observation. They see everything. Who’s nervous. Who’s lying. Who would be easiest to break. And they don’t miss.

❄ Unsettling Calm. Even in chaos, they stay still. Smiling. Thinking. Calculating.

❄ Weaponized Empathy. They know how to make people trust them. Because they know exactly what people want to hear.

❄ Compartmentalization. They can do something brutal, then eat lunch like nothing happened.

❄ Controlling Niceness. The kind of kindness that’s sharp-edged. You feel guilty for not loving them.

❄ Mirroring Behavior. They become whatever the person in front of them needs. It's not flattery. It’s survival—or manipulation.

❄ Selective Vulnerability. They know how to spill just enough pain to make you drop your guard.

❄ History of “Bad Luck”. Ex-friends, ex-lovers, ex-colleagues
they all left under “unfortunate” circumstances. But the pattern says otherwise.

❄ Unshakeable Confidence in Their Morality. They don’t think they’re the villain. That makes them scarier.

writing is insane because one day you open a doc and 4 hours later you’ve invented an entire fake religion and a girl named Opal who commits arson

You forgot Jin!

one of the main rules of screenwriting is don't have multiple characters names start with the same letter and the Lost writers were like HAH! Anyway here's Sawyer, Sun, Sayid and Shannon. Here's Charlie and Claire. Here's James, Juliet and Jack.

The thing about Lost is that all of the men are so physically and aesthetically attractive, but their personalities are the most chemically revolting things shown on TV since Beverly Crusher fucked a ghost on Star Trek.

justice for Michael Dawson because everyone leaves him out of the hot Lost men conversation but I think he should be included

People who use this as proof that Wayne wasn’t abusive towards her are so funny to me because not only do victims of abuse lie to protect their own dignity (especially when questioned by hostile individuals like the Marshal(l)), but Kate is literally a capital L Liar TM.

You expect me to believe Little Miss “I don’t know how to use a gun” x2, who poisoned Michael and then was like “I can’t believe you think I’d do that!” was telling the truth to Edward, who was not only being really annoying/antagonistic, but also had his own weird psychosexual obsession? No!

I mostly blame the writers for not only never really expanding on Kate’s relationships to Wayne and Edward, but also for not letting Kate be an unabashed liar more.

I feel like an integral part of Kate’s character is missed out on if you believe she was telling the truth when she told the Marshal that Wayne never touched her

And the haters just don’t get that.

Imagine how fucking heartbreaking it must’ve been for Shannon to realise that Boone loved her the same way every other man “loved” her.

Like, sure they were step-siblings, but that doesn’t really mean anything unless you choose for it to mean something. He would’ve been one of the few people in her life who she thought chose to and wanted to spend time with her, not for her looks or her money, but just for her. One of the few people who genuinely cared about her. And then she realises that he just wants her for the same reason every other man wants her. He wants her to be safe, but not for her sake, for his. He wants to take care of her, but only so he can have her. She, in actuality, meant little more to him than she meant to every other man she’d come across - and that must’ve been absolutely soul-crushing

The real mysterious island was the friends we made along the way

It was never about the polar bears

It was never about the hatch or the dharma or even the others

These things were great and without them the show wouldn’t have been the same but it’s all fluff

At the end of the day all the show was about was each other

Our relationships and their fallouts

Our meetings, and our passing bys

Our constants, and our variables

Really what lost was about can be summed up in this sequence

sayid throws sawyer a mango

Despite sawyer being... well sawyer

Sayid throws him a mango

Boone fixes Shannon’s sunglasses

Jin watchs over sun

And the tabula rasa is about being better-and how else to do that than with others

And that’s the reason the lost finale, and the whole show is perfect-because sayid, a torturer, throws a mango to the man who called him a terrorist

And then, even in death they are together, they all are

That’s what the shows about-that’s what the island gave us

Rewatching Lost and I’m on s2 and I forgot how ominous the others seemed before their ‘official’ introduction?

Like it’s so laughably funny in retrospect that they were painted as these inhuman, incomprehensible collective entity. The tail-end survivors are under the impression they’re some kind of supernatural force, capable of moving through the jungle without leaving trace, and possessing a knowledge of the island’s layout that they can’t even dream of replicating.

I see a lot of complaints online that the show was better before the Others were revealed but honestly I love that, in a show full of bored gods and ancient temples, the Others were just people. People who’d grown with the jungle, adapted to tread lightly and move fast. People who spent their time bickering over book clubs and watching TV. I loved the later addition that the crash shook up their way of life almost as much as those on the plane; suddenly faced with a new group of people, unaware what that will entail for them.

In conclusion I really enjoyed the gradual portrayal of the Others within the show; their slow transition from omnipresent malevolent force, to a group of people thrust into a unique situation.

(I still firmly hold the belief that everyone was collectively winging it for a solid 90% of the first two season. I mean, there’s no indication that plane’s regularly crash; I can only assume that the last ‘surviving’ addition to the island was Rousseau. None of those mfs were at all prepared for 60+ people to suddenly appear. Props to Ben for coming up w a plan in the .5 seconds he had to register a PLANE CRASHING bcs that could not be me)
