It's kinda late cause this took me WAY longer than I expected cause the drawing file got corrupted when I was almost finished and I had to do it all over again :')
But it was still a lot of fun to work on this challenge!
Btw I put a filter on cause I think it looked better and gave off a sunset vibe!

I wanted to make something a bit different from the other posts I saw so I made Luca and Alberto as sea monsters! It was written on the rules that changes on the characters were allowed so I hope that is ok 🥺
That's the situation: it's a sunny day, Alberto is on work break, the underdogs decide to hang out together and get themselves some gelato, they sit on a bench to do some small talk, but suddenly the sky starts leaking, it's nothing but a sudden summer rain, drizzle is all that falls from the sky, but it's enough water to soak their ice cream cones, luckily Giulia now has the habit of carrying an umbrella around with her since she's pretty much going to get in contact with water a lot because of her aquatic friends. Luca doesn't have one though, so he tries his best to protect his gelato from the water with his own hand while they wait for the rain to go away. Meanwhile, Alberto keeps talking about his countless stories as a lifeguard and how he's "kind of an expert" on his job saving people from drowning and teaching little kids how to swim. Poor kitty right there in the corner wasn't having fun at all though, it left its shelter just to take a closer look on the strange and flashy sea monsters but ended up getting taken by the rain and started running as fast as it could before getting completely drenched, the cat ran so fast that the underdogs only noticed it a few seconds before the cat completely disappeared from the place, they all laughed at the situation as soon as they lost sight of it
They are 16-17 in here cause I honestly have no idea of how I would picture them as adults, that's why their designs are kinda lazy too, I sort of had to do this in a rush cause the challenge's end line is almost here so I didn't have exactly enough time to think of better designs, but I guess these ones are enough to get by, I'll definitely change their designs in the future tho, but I've always pictured teen Giulia with long hair in a low ponytail, that's for sure, so I'm glad I had the chance to draw her like this!
I am still very happy with how this came out though, trees and backgrounds are usually my weak spot but surprisingly they were a lot of fun to work on and I'm very proud of how they turned out! I am really satisfied with the colors as well, I love how colorful it looks! I also played around with different colors for shading and it actually looks better than I expected, especially the shading of Giulia's skin!
I like the final result very much so I hope you like it too! 🥺

I've decided that I can't choose only one method to do scales so it will probably change from one drawing to another-
I watched Luca for the 5th time yesterday, am I obsessed?
Anyways, here's half human/half sea monster Luca and Alberto, I know many artists have done this already but I wanted to make my version too!
I decided to go for a similar style to the movie's cause I honestly think it's so cute and I absolutely love it, but I didn't intend to make the exact same style and tried to keep some aspects of my own so there might be some differences
Alberto's drawing took me longer than I expected for some reason, making his hair was a challenge for me but it was also pretty fun! I also loved messing with the colors and making the details on their faces! I struggled with the water at first but after some tries I finally found an way that I was satisfied with and I actually like how it came out a lot!
Alberto's been hurt before and has the huge fear of being rejected because of his true form, so I wanted his piece to express some sort of insecurity, anger and fear feeling, while Luca is easily amazed and has a huge feeling of curiosity, so I wanted his piece to express surprise and admiration, like the first time he went to the surface and turned into human
It took me a LONG time but it was very fun to work on those drawings, I put a lot of effort into them and I'm very proud of the final results so I really hope you like it!

I'm still trying to figure out how to do Giulia's and Alberto's hair lol I suck at drawing curly hair but I'm actually proud of how it came out!

Allright Luca fandom, it’s time for the history behind this now famous panel & why it’s out-of -picture. Because I’ve seen wild theories on here, as there should be, that’s why I love Tumblr.

Here’s my original from a couple versions earlier, notice how I only did a goofy reaction shot, and how she went full on HUG, of all story artists on the film, she loved these boys the most, and it shows!
These were part of a longer bit where we had plenty of shots, them speeding down those terraces towards town, exchanging dialogue. -But the dialogue kinda stopped the flow of the energy we had started at the tower.
-Also it’s dramatically more interesting to see humans in town react to sea monsters on a bicycle, then just the 2 alone on the terraces (where there are less spectators)
-A 3rd problem is the line ‘and you thought me how to’; it’s one-the-nose and stating the obvious. We were shown over & over throughout the movie how Alberto gave Luca a push. No need to ram it in there. As always: Show, Don’t Tell.
-Another pro to the cut is that any Alberto/Luca love budget saved in the rest of the race could be spent in Parting Ways, at the train station. You don’t want the movie to end on the hill; you want to let the sweetness all out at the end, because it’ll feel all the more earned.
So on the cutting floor it went. ✂️

It’s that time of year I re-watch the movie Luca and every time I do I remember how much I love this movie and just have such a great time. Genuinely it’s just such a simple and well made movie it always reminds me of why I decided to study animation in the first place.
