#MarchMeetTheMaker 🎨 COLOR 🧡Color is so important!!! It’s not usually my first thought, however. I like to fly by the seat of my pants. Let the mood take me somewhere. But after the sketch stage, I like to lay down the base colors. 💜 For today’s prompt I wanted to show off my regular color palettes. Maybe you can see my love of rich colors. Those deep blues, plums, and dark moss colors give me the warm and tingly feelings. #MarchMeetTheMaker 🦓 PORTRAIT 🦓 Do you remember Fruit Stripe gum? And how every piece came with temporary tattoos? That used to be my favorite and this background in my self-portrait reminds me so much of the colorful zebra stripes. 🦓 Some things you may not know about me: other girls wanted a pony when they were little, I wanted a pet zebra. I have never gone “with the grain “ on anything in my life and I’m not sure I know how. 🦓 I am an avid reader. I have 16 tattoos, most of which are very large. I am a recovering bread-aholic. I also have a mini farm with sheep, goats, Rabbits, one duck, and two dogs. The German Shepherd is most certainly my husband’s dog. But Grimm, the fluffy Belgian Shepherd, is my dog. And I have an 11 year old daughter that doesn’t help with any of it. 😂 🦓 I have always been a real outdoorsy person. I love hiking, backpacking, camping, and I live for bonfires. #MarchMeetTheMaker ✨SMALL DETAIL 🐻 For me, the small details in each piece are everything. I love the very end when I can add little highlights here and there, showing where the light is hitting objects around it. 🐻 I take my time on those subtle details that, very likely, I am the only one that notices. #MarchMeetTheMaker 💜 WORK IN PROGRESS 📚I always have 5 million “works in progress”, but my biggest project right now is my Mythic Mail book. Mythic Mail is a monthly snail mail adventure in letter form that i have an incredible amount of fun creating. 📚 I have loved creating it so much so that I wanted to take the adventure to Japan. Japan has such a rich monster culture. There are tons of creatures and tales to explore! It was hard to choose just a handful to explore. 📚 I have almost half of the main illustrations finished. Then I will move onto the writing and spot illustrations. Here I have my main sketches remaining and if you scroll, my book cover mockup. 📚 I am hoping to publish and release my Mythic Mail book sometime in late summer 2021. #MarchMeetTheMaker 🌙 On Your Desk 🐆”On your desk” is today’s prompt from @joannehawker . Since I use a tilted drawing desk, it makes it a little complicated to show you what I have on my desk. So this is what sits directly behind me. When I do my art classes with grade school students this is the background that they see. When I twirl around in my chair because I’m not entirely a grown-up, I get to look at my fun, golden leopard print wall. 🐆 I keep all of my markers, sketchbooks, unfinished paintings (we all have an abundance of those), My printer, button maker, and packaging supplies all around me on my shelves. And I also have my troll (masked up 😂🤦♀️) sitting beside me. 🐆 Today’s Prompt also inspired me to make a mini video of what my typical day looks like. #marchmeetthemaker 💜 BELIEFS & VALUES ✨ The first thing that comes to mind is my whole reason for starting Ursa Ink: Just be WEIRD! ✨ I can not count the times I have shown someone my sketches or something I was drawing only to receive a long pause followed by, “Hmm. Okay.” or “... that’s... different”. ✨ I have learned to embrace my weirdness. My art isn’t for everyone and that’s alright. I rather create things I am passionate about and make me happy than to always cater to the taste of others. It is difficult to wait for your fans to find you. #MarchMeetTheMaker 💜 STYLE 🌙 I’ve never been much of a landscape artist or a very skilled cartoonist. I would say my love of drawing people and animals lands somewhere on the semi-realistic scale. I noticed that I don’t like to go that extra step into realistic or photorealistic art. I enjoy everyone else’s creativity with comic and cartoon art, but I tend to be hyper critical of my own efforts in that realm. 🌙 I can see the style difference in my art from others, but I can’t verbally pin point exactly what it is. I like to go for maybe more unnatural, saturated colors. I like bold sitting next to dark. And like so many artists, I LIVE FOR those bits of highlight and glow at the end of a piece. 🌙 This is a piece I am most proud of. It isn’t terribly popular in my shop, but that’s okay. The Archer has a perfect skin palette in my eyes. A little orange, a few hidden blue tones. 🌙 It is also important to me to use poses and develop characters that aren’t perfect “Instagram Girls”.
