I sat in the terminal, anxiously tapping my foot on the floor. My boyfriend, Milo, sitting next to me casually scrolling on his phone. I wished I could feel as calm as he does, but I am a mess right now.

Milo and I have been dating for almost 6 months now, but have not met my parents nor anyone in my family. My parents knew I had been seeing someone, but I never told them the details. They are a very traditional Mexican couple, so how do I tell my parents I am dating an actor who is constantly on the go with new projects?

“Y/N? Are you okay? You’re staring off again.” Milo said as he grabbed my hand in his. I looked over at him and noticed he looked concerned. Was I that deep in thought?

I sighed. “Are you sure you’re ready for this? They don't know what you do and I'm worried they won't approve of us. What if th-” 

“Babe, it's fine. We have been dating for a while now, so it was bound to happen. They would find out sooner or later about me anyway. I don't plan on leaving you. You’re my everything” He said and gave me a reassuring smile. 

I smiled at him. His sweet personality and charming self made me feel more relaxed. I love him so much. He is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. 

We boarded our flight and took a nap once we were settled in our seats.

~~~~~~ A couple hours later~~~~~~

After we gathered our suitcases, we went outside and I ordered an Uber to take us to our hotel. Anxiety crept up on me again and led to me overthinking again. Milo sensed it again and held my hand. He ended up pulling me into a hug. The smell of his cologne makes me happy.

“How are you so calm?” I asked as we pulled away.

“Honestly, I am slightly nervous,” he said shyly. “But as long as I am with you, I'll be okay.”

I smiled at him. 

My phone beeped telling me the Uber was here. Milo and I walked over to the Uber and the driver helped us put our suitcases in the back. Milo being his friendly self was making conversation with the Uber driver during our 35-minute drive. I would occasionally join their conversation, but I was just looking out the window, looking out at the city I was raised in.

~~~~ At Hotel ~~~~

Milo and I thanked the Uber driver as he helped us unload our suitcases from his car. We went in and checked in. We got our key and headed to our room. Milo instantly ran and jumped on the bed. 

“I love hotel beds! They're so fucking comfy” He said

I laughed and joined him. He pulled me closer to him and we cuddled for a bit. 

It was only 1 pm, but we are used to California time. Between Texas and Cali, there's only a 2-hour difference. 

“What time is your family getting together again?” He asked

“It's at 6. Why?” 

“Well, we can maybe order some room service and chill here.”

“Sounds like a plan.”

We browsed through the menu and decided on getting some pizza so we won't be too full for later. 

“Can you order it? I want to shower before we go.” I asked him as I got up from the bed and headed to the bathroom.

“Or we can order it later and I can join you in there?” He said. I turned around to see him; he was smirking and winking at me. 

I giggled. “In your dreams, Manheim.” was all I could say, and closed the door.

“RUDE!” Milo said.

I turned on the shower and then called my mom. 

“Y/N! Mija, how are you? Are you guys here now?” My mom said as she answered the phone.

“Si mami. We are at the hotel right now. I am getting ready to shower and then we will be having some lunch.”

“Mmmm… I still don't like that you guys are sharing a room. You should have stayed here and he should stay there. You guys aren't married” My mom said. I got anxious instantly.

“Ayy ma. We will be fine.” I said, trying to sound calm. “I just wanted to call and let you know we landed and got some lunch. I will see you later”

“Okay, mija. Bye!” She said and hung up.

I put my phone on the counter and got in the shower.

~~~~ After shower ~~~~

I finished tying a knot in my bathroom as I walked out of the bathroom. 

Milo looked over at me and his eyes widened. “Wow…”

“What?” I asked worriedly.

“Nothing. Just don't know how you can look so hot in just a bathrobe.” He said got up from the bed and walked over to me. He put his hands on my curvy waist.

I felt my cheeks blushing. I looked up at him. He was starting to lean in

We were interrupted by the knocks on our door. Milo slightly groaned, causing me to laugh.

Milo went to go see who it was. Meanwhile, I got dressed in something comfy. It was just our food, so we ate in bed while we watched a movie.

~~~~ Leaving for the get-together ~~~~

“Babe, we gotta go! Uber is here.” Milo said from outside the bathroom door.

I looked at myself in the mirror before we left. I looked good. Minimal makeup, and a dress that hugged my body just right. “Ready!” I said as I walked out.

Milo was waiting by the door. He turned around to look at me and blushed. I walked up to him. He kept looking up and down at me.

“You’re killing me today. You look so beautiful” He said and kissed me. I checked him out. He looked so handsome. He was wearing gray slacks and a white shirt. 

“Thanks, babe. Now let’s go before my mom gets upset at me for being late”

~~~~ At my parents house~~~~

“Thank you, sir. Have a great day!” Milo said to the Uber driver as we arrived at my parent’s house.

I gulped and felt the nerves coming back again. We walked towards the front door. I rang the doorbell and waited.

Milo held my hand. “We got this baby. No worries” he whispered to me. 

I heard the door unlock, and my parents opened the door together. 

“Y/N! We missed you” My mom said as she pulled me into a hug, and my dad joined.

“I missed you both so much,” I said as I pulled away. “Mami. Papi. This is my boyfriend, Milo.”

Milo smiled at them and stuck his hand out to shake their hand. “Hello, Mr and Mrs Y/L/N. Nice to meet you, both.” 

I looked at my parents. They smiled at him, pushed his hand away, and pulled him into a hug. 

“Milito!” My mom said

“Welcome to the family, mijo” My dad said.

Well, that went better than I thought. Once they let him go, my mom guided us to the backyard where the rest of the family was.

“Y/N!” Everyone said as they saw me enter. I don't usually visit my family unless it is for a holiday, so everyone is happy to see me. 

Milo was shocked “You did not tell me your family was this big.”

I giggled. I grabbed his hand and we walked to the seats across from my parents. 

“There are some carne asada tacos and rice ready to be served when you guys are ready,” My mom said.

“I am okay for now. Thank you, Mrs. Y/L/N.” Milo said to my mom

“Oh, please. Call me Flora!” My mom responded.

“So, Milo… What do you do for a living?” My dad asked.

I got nervous. Here it comes….

“Well… I am an actor.” I can see my parent’s eyes widen. “I am in between projects, but I am free for the next two weeks before I fly to Vancouver to finish filming for a show.”

“Oh wow! I was not expecting that.” My mom said still shocked.

“So you leave Y/N when you go and do these things?” My dad asked a bit passive-aggressive.

“What if you cheat on her while you're gone?” My mom flat-out asked.

“Papi! Mami!” I said

“It’s okay, y/n” Milo said and gave me a reassuring smile. “Yes, I do. She has come with me a couple of times, but due to her job and school, she can't. Trust me when I say this, I will never do anything that could hurt your daughter. She has been the best thing that has happened to me. She makes me feel happy and loved. I always make sure she's taken care of before anything. She means the world to me. I will never hurt her, sir.” Milo explained to my dad. I felt like I was grinning so much from his sweet ‘speech’.

I saw my dad’s frown turn into a smile. “That is good to hear. You have my blessing to continue dating my daughter. It is obvious you make her happy.” My dad said.

I sighed in relief. “Thank you, both.”

“Thank you. I will keep my promise.” Milo said.

“Good. Now let's go eat and enjoy the rest of the get-together.” My mom said as she got up. My dad followed her.

Milo turned his chair to look at me. “Told you that you had nothing to worry about.” He laughed

“I know,” I said and playfully rolled my eyes at him. “It’s because I picked the right guy for me.”

He kissed my cheek and got up. “Now come with me. The smell of the tacos smells so good it's making me hungry.” 

I got up and he grabbed my hand. He led me to the food table where my parents were serving themselves. 

The rest of the night was amazing. Milo enjoyed about 6 tacos and loved the music. He is a Latino at heart. 

While Milo danced one song with my mom, my dad sat next to me. 

“Hey Mija. Are you doing okay?” My dad asked.

“Yes, Papi. Just watching them dance. They're having fun. Here I was worried you guys wouldn't like him.

My dad let out a chuckle. “I may not like his job since he leaves you often, but I can tell he truly cares about you. The way he was with you tonight, how he got along with the whole family and loves your mom’s cooking is one of the first boyfriends you have had that gained my respect. Also, you can tell he loves you by the way he looks at you” 

“Dad! We haven't said that to each other, yet” I said.

He let out another chuckle. “Well prepare for it. But there's no doubt he is already in love with you.” 

I laughed and continued watching Milo interact with my other family members. I do love him. Just haven't told him yet. I will soon though.
