most headcannons have nothing to do with personality between the two characters. ESPECIALLY IN KAI’S CASE!! (im so sorry)
for sara, i really like the naturally calm inflection. she’s way too put together in almost every situation, but the scream really sold me on this voice. it has a truly anguished sound while also still fitting to an adolescent character. if i saw one more kaede akamatsu headcannon, i would flip. usually when i see voice claims, they’re all danganronpa voices, and i really just wanna leave comparing the two back in 2020.
joe, i don’t believe would say any of those things, but i really like the voice given because it truly does sound adolescent.
i’ve always imagined shin with more of a naturally monotone voice, rather than the bryce papenbrook nagito laugh i see most people use. i feel like its good for his snarky lines. i feel like people forget that he’s not some evil mastermind. he’s literally just some 20 year old.
kanna’s voice feels sweet mixed with timid, to me. i also really liked the ‘true love’ line for her. she fantasizes about romance often, so she was one of the few that i felt the lines spoken also lined up with her character.
reko reminds me a lot of ymir. they’d probably get along really well— or despise one another. that’s just how similar personalities go.
i also wanted to give nao a really youthful voice. i thought the voice cracks were fitting. (maybe im just projecting because i still had voice cracks at 19)
keiji and reiner are literally the same archetype to me, i dunno. jaded, traumatized, depressed, buff, blondes.
alice and kenpatchi have literally nothing in common, but ive always liked to imagine him with an extremely gravelly voice because it makes the fact that he has an effeminate scream funnier to me.
gin and tony tony chopper just have the same energy to me. i considered alphones elric as well, but i didn’t like the whole… empty armor echo…
ranmaru just seems generally awkward to me. he’s slightly younger than sara in cannon, so i gave him a voice that sounded younger.
ranger… i can’t explain why… but i just KNOW jerma would have the perfect voice for him if he ever played yttd. jerma has a knack for that.
miley feels self explanatory to me. just felt right 🤷♀️
midori, i’ve always felt has an uncanny vibe from the robotic experimentation done on his body. the dummies/dolls are all meant to replicate humanity, but midori seems like the kind of person that wants to STRAY from his humanity, so i feel he would intentionally make himself more and more like a machine.
the voice itself is kinda whatever, but i really like that robotic/uncanny effect to it.
okay, JUST HEAR ME OUT ON KAI. he’s NOTHING like shou tucker, but he had such an unsettling vibe in chapter one that i can’t think of any other voice for him. i feel like it would perfectly mesh with the general mysterious vibe of both the chapter he was featured in, and his characterization as a possible stalker at the time.

funny things my bf did while playing yttd for the first time
- unintentionally killed sara twice in the first trial with joe
- tried to use the empty gun in his inventory from russian roulette on everyone (mostly shin) in ch1 while saying, “they best know i’m packing”
- gave kurumada an angry scottish accent
- gave meister the voice of lord death from soul eater
- gave rio ranger the voice of … donald trump…?
- read all of keiji’s lines in chill’s burger king foot lettuce voice except for his flashbacks pre-murder, which he voiced normally. the minute he shot his idol, my bf switched back to the chill’s voice and said “yeah, keiji’s voice just did that after the incident.”
-decided kanna was a gangster
- gave sara’s inner dialogue a deep manly voice and then a stereotypically girly voice for her spoken lines.
- every time someone defended sara in chapter one trial, he deemed them his “loyal dickriders”
-hated shin the entire game and then chose him to live in 2-2 because “if my opp dies, i have to open opplications.”
- purposefully killed hayasaka in the banquet
- screamed “he’s trying to touch my little girl butt!” every time keiji said anything about sara being cute.
- ended up being happy about saving shin instead of kanna despite his hatred of him because he thought it was cool that shin got to see his abuser die.
- believes mew-chan is evil
- his entire “top five characters list” is just sara (aka “the goat”) 5 times.
biggest pet peeve is when people draw greenblings is midori being thrown in. like, there’s two routes artists go and i feel as if they’re both in bad taste.
they exclude kugie, the person who inspired kanna to grow into the person she is today.
or they just throw him into the trio of siblings that could never even be happy/even live knowing of their relation to one another because of his manipulation…

as a cat person, shin, reko, and sara all preferring cats to dogs is so cute. i love them so much. my sillies (mentally anguished young adults).
shin has a cat plushie that meows when you press its belly (seen in his flashback)
in one of nankidai’s twitter comics reko and hayasaka are both asked by midori if they prefer cats or dogs and then he turns them into their preferred species (hayasaka as a dog and reko as a cat)
sara temporarily adopts a cat in the manga and is gifted a cat charm by joe, sorta like his dog keychain.
needed a certain scene from yttd to make a meme and now my search history got me feeling like midori 😭
