got quite long sorry
okay but shy puppy tzuyu being the saddest girl cause jihyo apparently doesn’t like her?? she remembers the urge in jihyo’s voice when mina first brought her in after fiding her in a dark alley, hair and ears wet cause she couldn’t protect herself from the rain. tzuyu’s heart, which was still beating fast from when mina walked closer to her cause she thought it was another gross men who would hurt her, ached when jihyo hissed at mina “i don’t want a pet!”
mina had fought her then, tzuyu realized, when mina slept with her on the tiny couch during the first few nights. then mina asked her if she wanted to sleep in the room with them and tzuyu refused, stuttering that she was a big girl and could keep sleeping on the couch. she cherished the tiny, hesitant kiss mina pressed against her forehead with a tiny “goodnight” that day, smiling dumbly as she curled up into herself.
tzuyu woke up to a loud thunder. she gasped, tears already streaming down her face as she got up from the couch, tripping over her blanket before she was able to run to mina’s room. she slammed the door open, sobbing, sniffing around a bit so she could go to the right side of the bed, making grabby hands towards mina, who shushed her and helped her in between her and jihyo.
“what happened?” jihyo asked in a low, sleepy tone, and tzuyu winced away a bit. mina pet the space between her ears, whispering her sweet nothings, barely paying attention to jihyo. “mina?”
“i found her in the rain,” mina said simply “i think she’s afraid of it.” tzuyu had calmed down a bit, crying silently now, face hidden on the crook of mina’s neck. jihyo sighed, trying not to be affected by the sight of the two, heart warming up, and when she moved to lay down properly again, her hands brushed tzuyu’s back slightly. the puppy yelped, sobbing again, a weak “no, please!” leaving her lips.
“huh?” the japanese asked, with tzuyu now properly on her lap. she rocked her much bigger frame with a bit of difficulty, but lovingly nonetheless. “what was that, baby?”
“w-when tzuyu was alone,” she gasped out, looking up at mina, eyes full of fear, “when the rain f-fell and those b-boys would make t-tzuyu feel bad and it h-hurt and t-they said no one l-liked tzuyu,” she closed her eyes, brows furrowing, tail wiggling sadly, “t-tzuyu did nothing and jihyo u-unnie doesn’t like her. p-please, don’t hurt tzuyu t-too!”
jihyo remembered then, the few times tzuyu would try to get closer to her on the couch and she would flinch away, when she got home before mina and tzuyu was waiting for her by the door and she totally ignored her, when tzuyu asked for help to find clothes that would fit her cause mina didn’t have time to buy her some and she just told tzuyu to do it herself cause she was busy. she held back tears of embarassement and regret, shifting closer to them, letting her presence be known by tzuyu before she rubbed her back. she could see mina’s tiny smile, and she swallowed her pride as tzuyu’s big brown eyes focused on hers.
“i don’t hate you,” she started, too shy to keep eye contact, focusing on her own hand on the puppy’s back instead, “i’m just not used to... clinginess. to someone depending on me. i had problems with a puppy when i was younger.” tzuyu’s ears perk up to that, and jihyo chuckles, “i’m sorry if i was an ass. but i promise you, i like you, tzuyu-ah. please let me make it up to you”.
the next morning, mina can’t help but snap a picture of tzuyu’s arms around jihyo’s waist as she spoons her, face tucked on her owners short dark hair, face more peaceful than it’s ever been.
