The Salmon of Knowledge . Myth 1 Fionn

Long ago when Fionn mac Cumhaill, the great leader of the Fianna of Ireland, was still a young boy he was sent to live with a very wise man named Finnegas. Finnegas was a poet who lived on the banks of the river Boyne and was renowned throughout Ireland for his vast knowledge. As well as being renowned for his skills in composing and reciting poetry Finnegas knew more about the ways of the world, including the secrets of the birds and animals and plants and stars, than other man in Ireland. It was because of his vast knowledge that Fionn had been sent to learn from Finnegas. Fionn loved to listen to the old man's wonderful stories and his many words of wisdom which he too, in time, would learn to recite. In exchange for the wisdom Finnegas would pass on to him, Fionn would help about the house, cooking, cleaning and fishing for the old man. However, despite Finnegas' vast knowledge, he did not know everything and there were times when Fionn's endless curiosity got the better of him, and he was left unable to answer the young boy's questions. ' Is there a way to know everything?' Fionn asked him. This was a question that Finnegas had asked once too and was the very reason why he now lived next to the river Boyne. It had been told by the druids of old that living in a still, dark pool in the shade of the overhanging hazel trees was the Salmon of Knowledge. It was as result of eating the nuts of these magical hazel trees that the Salmon had acquired all the knowledge of the world. And so it was that, according to prophecy, the one who would eat the Salmon would gain the

knowledge for themselves. Finnegas had been living on the edge of the river for several years now, attempting to catch the Salmon and gain such wisdom. It so happened that one day, not long after Fionn had come to study under him, Finnegas went fishing and finally caught the Salmon. 'I've caught it! I've caught it!,' he cried happily. He immediately reeled it in and ran up to Fionn with the Salmon in his arms. 'You must cook it straight away!' Finnegas ordered Fionn, dancing and skipping with excitement. As Fionn began to set up the fire and spit in order to cook the Salmon, Finnegas warned him, 'Cook it, but whatever you do, do not eat a single bit of it!' Fionn nodded and went about cooking the Salmon while Finnegas went to fetch some extra firewood.Upon his return Finnegas found the Salmon laid out and ready to eat. He looked at Fionn and thought he saw something different about him, as though the light of wisdom now shone in his eyes. 'Have you eaten any of the Salmon?' he asked Fionn anxiously. 'I have not!' Fionn replied. 'Have you tasted its skin?' he continued to enquire. 'I have not!' Fionn replied, 'but when I was turning it on the spit I burned my fingers, so I put my thumb into my mouth to ease the pain.

Finnegas' heart sank. 'That's enough!' he told Fionn, 'You have tasted the Salmon of Knowledge; in you the prophecy is fulfilled. You are the one who has gained all the knowledge of the world.' He then ordered Fionn to eat all of the Salmon. However, when Fionn was finished he realised he didn't feel much different nor did he feel any wiser than before. When he told this to Finnegas, Finnegas replied, 'If it was your thumb you first burnt, then place it in your mouth.' Fionn did as Finnegas suggested and immediately all the knowledge of the world rushed into his head. 'You must go now! There is nothing more I can teach you,' Finnegas informed him, 'You are destined to become a wise poet, warrior and leader.' And so it was that when Fionn grew up, he did indeed become a wise poet, warrior and leader. He became a great leader of the Fianna, the greatest band of warriors Ireland has ever known.

The Legend Of Balor Of The Evil Eye

The Legend of Balor of the Evil Eye

Irish Mythology

Vol 3

Balor

In the ancient days of Ireland, when gods and monsters roamed the land, there lived a fearsome giant named Balor. His very name struck terror into the hearts of mortals and immortals alike. Balor was no ordinary giant; he was a king among the Fomorians, a race of malevolent beings who thrived on chaos and darkness.

Balor’s appearance was as imposing as his reputation. Towering and broad-shouldered, he moved with a deliberate heaviness that shook the earth beneath his feet. But it was his eye—the infamous Evil Eye—that set him apart. This eye, nestled within its cavernous socket, held a power beyond comprehension. When Balor opened it, disaster followed. Crops withered, rivers dried up, and even the hardiest warriors quaked in fear.

The eye was not merely a physical organ; it was a conduit for malevolence. Its gaze could scorch the earth, turn forests to ash, and curse entire villages. Legends whispered that it had once laid waste to an entire battlefield, reducing armies to dust with a single glance. But opening the eye was no simple task. It required the strength of four warriors to lift the heavy lid, each gripping the iron ring attached to it.

Balor ruled the Fomorians from the Isles of the North, where storms raged perpetually, and the sea churned with fury. His wife, the enigmatic Cethlenn, stood by his side, equally formidable. Together, they plotted dark deeds and reveled in chaos. Their dominion extended over treacherous waters and desolate cliffs, where the cries of lost sailors echoed.

But fate had other plans. The Tuatha Dé Danann, a race of divine beings, challenged the Fomorians. Among them was Lugh, a warrior of unmatched skill and cunning. Lugh’s lineage was intertwined with that of Balor—he was Balor’s grandson. Yet, destiny had set them on opposing paths.

As the Battle of Mag Tuired loomed, Lugh prepared for the ultimate confrontation. Armed with a sling and a single stone, he faced the giant. Balor’s eye narrowed, its malevolence focused on the young warrior. But Lugh was no ordinary mortal. With precision and courage, he hurled the stone. It pierced Balor’s eye, exiting the other side, and the giant stumbled backward.

The Evil Eye’s power dissipated, leaving Balor vulnerable. Lugh seized the moment, striking down the giant. The earth trembled as Balor fell, his malevolence extinguished. The Fomorian king’s reign of terror ended, and light triumphed over darkness.

And so, the tale of Balor of the Evil Eye became a cautionary legend—a reminder that even the most formidable foes could be defeated by courage, wit, and the love of kin.

Remember this story, for it echoes through the ages, teaching us that even in the darkest of times, heroes rise to challenge the malevolence that threatens our world.

Irish Celtic mythology

VOL 2

The Banshee: A Haunting Specter

The banshee, known as “Bean Sídhe” in Irish folklore, is a mysterious and eerie figure deeply entrenched in Celtic mythology. She is a harbinger of death, a spectral messenger who appears to forewarn of impending doom. Let us delve into the haunting details of this ethereal being:

Appearance:

The banshee is often depicted as a veiled woman with long, disheveled hair that cascades down her back.

Her attire is ancient and tattered, reflecting her timeless existence. A flowing gown, sometimes white or gray, clings to her spectral form.

Her eyes are piercing and sorrowful, reflecting the weight of her otherworldly burden.

Cries of Mourning:

The banshee is most renowned for her keening wails. When a prominent family member is about to die, she materializes near their dwelling or by a riverbank.

Her mournful cries pierce the night, echoing through the valleys and hills. These eerie sounds are said to be an omen of impending death.

The banshee’s lament is both a warning and a lamentation—a farewell to the living and a beckoning to the afterlife.

Ancestral Guardianship:

The banshee is deeply connected to specific Irish families, especially those of noble lineage. Each family has its own unique banshee.

She is a guardian spirit who watches over her chosen clan. Her appearance signifies the imminent passing of a beloved family member.

The Three Forms:

The banshee can manifest in three distinct forms:

As a beautiful young woman, singing sweetly by the water’s edge.

As a matronly figure, veiled and weeping, her grief palpable.

As a haggard crone, her features twisted with sorrow and age.

The Morrigan Connection:

Some legends link the banshee to the ancient goddess Morrigan, a deity associated with war, fate, and sovereignty.

The Morrigan, like the banshee, embodies both life and death, weaving the threads of destiny.

Crossing the Veil:

The banshee straddles the boundary between the mortal realm and the Otherworld. Her presence is a reminder of our mortality.

She beckons souls toward the next realm, guiding them through the veil.

Respect and Reverence:

Despite her eerie reputation, the banshee is treated with respect and reverence. Her role is not malevolent; she merely fulfills her duty.

Families honor her by acknowledging her presence and accepting her message.

In the moonlit glens and mist-shrouded hills of Ireland, the banshee continues her timeless vigil. Her cries echo through the ages, a haunting melody that binds the living and the departed.

Leprechauns: Ireland’s Enigmatic Tricksters

Leprechauns: Ireland’s Enigmatic Tricksters

VOL 1

Everyones favourite.Leprechauns

Origins and Legends: Leprechauns, those enigmatic beings of Irish folklore, have been captivating imaginations for centuries. Their origins trace back to ancient Celtic mythology, where they were known as “luchorpáns,” meaning “small bodies.” These pint-sized tricksters stand a mere 2-3 feet tall, yet their impact on Irish culture is immeasurable.

Appearance and Dwellings: Picture a leprechaun: a wizened old man with twinkling eyes, a crooked hat, and a mischievous grin. Their attire has evolved over time, transitioning from red to the iconic green we associate with Ireland. These elusive creatures reside in underground caves, hollow tree trunks, or secluded nooks near water sources. Their homes are hidden from human eyes, accessible only to those who possess the gift of second sight.

Master Cobblers: Leprechauns are renowned as the cobblers of the fairy world. Their nimble fingers stitch intricate shoes, each pair a masterpiece. The old Irish term “leath bhrogan” directly translates to “shoemaker,” emphasizing their craft. Legend has it that if you stumble upon a leprechaun’s workshop, you’ll find rows of tiny shoes, meticulously crafted and imbued with magic.

The Elusive Pot of Gold: Perhaps the most famous aspect of leprechaun lore is their fabled pot of gold. These cunning beings guard their treasure fiercely. According to legend, the pot is hidden at the end of a rainbow—a whimsical location that humans rarely reach. If you manage to catch a leprechaun and keep your eyes fixed on the rainbow, you might just discover their secret stash.

Tricksters and Bargains: Leprechauns are mischievous by nature. They love playing pranks on unsuspecting travelers, leading them astray or causing their shoelaces to mysteriously untie. But beware: if you capture a leprechaun, they’ll bargain for their freedom. Offer them three wishes, and they’ll reveal the location of their gold. But choose wisely, for their tricks often twist wishes into unexpected outcomes.

A Vanishing Act: Leprechauns are elusive beings. If you glimpse one, count yourself lucky. But don’t blink—they vanish in the blink of an eye. Their laughter echoes through the Irish hills, a reminder that magic still dances in the emerald landscapes.

I have hundreds of leprechaun images available for FREE.

Thank you for existing.

I feel like so many people need to hear this because this message is getting lost in the noise of dismal politics and the aesthetics of everyone else’s lives.

P.S.

You do not need straight A’s to be exceptional.

You do not need to spend 24 hours a day making aesthetic notes to be exceptional.

You do not need to have your shit together all the time to be exceptional.

You do not have to be in an amazing mood 24/7 to be exceptional.

I hope you enjoy recording music, and working on self-improvement because we are getting this to 2k!

ok everyone seems to be doing this and maybe i'm just a loser (yes i am a loser i'm sorry everyone) but if this post gets 1k notes i will:

work out how to record my music and actually properly publish it

stop going on my phone for so long after school

if it gets 2k notes i will:

actually dedicate myself to learning russian

start writing my book properly (as in no more chaotically deleting all my work, i will start being less self-conscious, be less of a perfectionist, and less comparing myself to others)

this is not happening. no way.
