My Grandma - Blog Posts

When I was little I was homeschooled and I was a bit behind on learning to read I think, I was so excited for when it would be my turn to learn to read and begged my grandma and older sister to read to me all the time, I learned to read eventually but I don't like to read on my own, my grandma and sister had read the black stallion and black beauty to me so many times I could read them on my own but for the most part I wouldn't, I would always run up to my grandma or sister and beg them to read the old books to me, they always said why? You can read them yourself now, you don't need me, most of the time with a little persuasion they would still sit down with me on the blue couch in the white room and read a chapter or two of whatever book I had requested, I finally know the words for why I wanted to read with them when I could have easily done it myself, I didn't necessarily want to read the book for the story, the point wasn't reading the story, the point was sharing the story with them, I enjoyed their company and wanted to share a minimally engaging activity with them so I could revel in their presence and enjoy their gentle companionship

You know what, shout out to my grandma for teaching me the basics of almost everything I know, she's literally the coolest lady ever and doesn't even know it

my eccentric 91 year old mimi is staying at our house. if there is anything you’d like to communicate to or ask of this interesting character now would be the time. she enjoys astrology, Emanuel Swedenborg, making doll furniture, and drinking copious amounts of cheap wine. she got her blood tested. she has almost no hemoglobin, white blood cells, or platelets. we have no idea how she is still alive but we think it may be supernatural.

Tapes and Photos...

I like tapes. You put it in - you hear the usual clicking noise, which sounds so nice - and it doesn't take long until you see a lot of pictures and videos. You see an old film from a completely normal day in the kitchen, living room or small garden behind the little house, old, a little blurry and the colors are also a little different - but nevertheless these video clips, which may be meaningless for someone else, are worth more than a thousand bills and coins to you. They are your past, your childhood - even what happened before your childhood or your birth. For example - old photo books. You look at the yellowed old black and white pictures - maybe there are even a few colorful photos, but then very reddish. The paper is already yellowed, slightly torn and the dark black ink smells of wonderful old memories. You take every single photo in your hand with a smile and wonder what it was like back then because you have almost forgotten it yourself. You take every single one in your hand - no matter if it is a large picture or a small picture - and run your thumb over it to feel the old, thick paper. In the warm light of the bedside lamp on the old armchair, you can go through all the thick photo albums that tell you even about your grandmother's childhood. You turn the pages carefully and with an inner comforting feeling. Almost all photos fall out of their glued holders, so you have to put them back in - and after the 43 picture you put back, you just leave them there as they are. Memories and feelings arise in you and you always start to immerse into this little world of your own. Tapes and photos are magical ... don’t they?

Gramdmam’s wisdom

There was a sweet potato left behind. According to grandmom’s advice, we grew it to have buds. Look at this, now there are many potatos. Gramdmam’s wisdom is great! Thank you very much!

La sabiduría de la abuela

Quedó una batata. Según el consejo de la abuela, lo cultivamos para que tuviera cogollos. Mira esto, ahora hay muchas patatas. ¡La sabiduría de la abuela es genial! ¡Muchos gracias!

My Grandma Has Been Battling Cancer For Some Time Now.. She Made A Huge Decision To Be Put On Hospice,

My grandma has been battling cancer for some time now.. She made a huge decision to be put on hospice, that started Friday. It’s absolutely horrifying to know that you are now in your last days of life.. 😭💔😭

God brought you into my life at the age of 12, I haven’t always been the easiest granddaughter, consistency was challenging for me, abandonment issues caused me to withdraw myself from just about anyone. Involving myself with the wrong people which led me to live life on certain expectations cause of my own choices.

You helped with open hands, a caring heart, love you poured into every single one of us. Speaking advice into ears that needed it, being the worlds greatest grandma to us kids! Importantly, while leaving a toxic relationship my daughter gained having the best gee-gee in her life!!!!!! She adores you!!!! She feels everything so deeply so this right now is affecting her so much… 💔

I pray for peace, I pray for strength, I pray for no more pain in your life grandma!!!!!!

A PRECIOUS human my family & I LOVE dearly, is once again being ripped away from us by this evil sickness cancer! It’s not fair, watching someone so close to you slowly dying is terrifying. It makes you question everything, mixed emotions & not enough words to be said that we can say to save those we care about…

Pray for my family at this time. Cherish your time with your loved ones, hug them extra tightly for a moment. You never know what life has in store for each one of us. Embrace the love that comes to us, appreciate the people who have been there all along. Life flashes before our eyes, without a trace of hope or fear of the unknown.
