-Ok, first of the issue of nationality. I was going crazyyy trying to figure out WHY the ruins of a mid-evil European knight would be in Brazil. But then I saw this one post suggesting, that he may have been a Spanish knight, who had been accompanying a royal figure when the Spanish went to South America. That made enough sense for me, so now that’s just canon. The time periods is where I draw the line, this is good enough for me.
-So, Durbe is Spanish and I love Latino Durbe more than I thought I would. He also definitely calls Ryouga Spanish pet names.
-Next up, he is bisexual and I will DIE on that hill. You can pull that headcanon from my cold dead hands. He is so fucking bi for Nasch and Merag, you cannot convince me otherwise.
-Ok, let‘s do past life first. Since I now headcanon him as Spanish, I gave him accurate traditional Spanish knight armour. And long wavy hair. Because what screams more „Spanish knight“ than long wavy hair- AND A BEARD. I love Durbe with a beard, I wanna draw that more. (Though I think in the present Durbe would shave more, which makes Ryouga sad, cause he liked the beard)
-Also he would have always been squinting, because this man is BLIND without glasses. But they weren’t even invented in his time, so he just had to suffer. He is so damn nearsighted, he can only see what’s right in front of him. But therefore he honed all his other senses, being able to sense where his opponent is by merely hearing and even smelling sometimes. I imagine he would have been badly bullied for his bad eyesight and his goal of becoming a knight, but he just trained hard to prove them all wrong and became the best knight in the entire kingdom.
-He had always been perceived as intimidating, his squinting being mistaken as glaring, but he is actually the nicest person you will ever meet. Except if you‘re his enemy. Then he will beat the living shit out of you.
-Him and Nasch also absolutely were secret lovers. Or they thought they were secret, but like the whole castle knew. I believe their first meeting would have been like this: Durbe travelled on Mach to Nasch‘s kingdom, when they were younger and Nasch‘s father was king, because he had to deliver a message from his king. But he got caught in a storm and was found by Nasch and castle guards. So now he had to stay and recover and that was when he got to know the twins and even offered them sword training, cause he is a MASTER at sword fighting. Eventually he and Nasch fell in love and Durbe travelled over as often as possible to see him (which honestly was sadly not that often, cause of the distance and his duties to his king)
-The end of his story remains the same, only that, after hearing of his death, Nasch was so depressed from the war that he threw himself off a tower into the ocean.
-Now then, present time. Durbe absolutely gives off history major vibes. So that‘s what I did, because of course he will study in history major, specialising in his and the timelines of his fellow emperors, to ensure that nothing wrong is being passed on.
-He also is still a horse boy. He wears his riding pants and boots to go and ride horses almost every day. Ryouga and Rio will sometimes join him, because they still know how to ride horses. So yes to Tomoshipping Horse riding date. Also Mach is alive and happily living on a horse farm where Durbe visits him, because I said so.
-Also HE FINALLY GOT HIS GLASSES. He was flashed, when it was revealed that Ryouga and Rio are Nasch and Merag and he now ACTUALLY saw what they look like with glasses. Because of course he already thought they were beautiful, but now he sees them in like 4K. He had never believed that they could be even more attractive than they already were to him (when they were just undefined blobs)
-He is still practicing sword fighting as a hobby, because he just can’t shake of the instinct of protecting his loved ones with his life. He always wants to be ready to defend his friends and family.
-He also wears the friendship same bracelet with Rio and Ryouga and a promise ring from Ryouga, like the matching rings Ryouga has with Rio.

More Notes about it under the cut!
-Firstly I wanted to make his past life a.k.a. Nasch look DIFFERENT than Ryouga himself. Past lives do not work that way. They may look similar, but not directly a copy paste version. I mean, Ryouga Kamishiro isn’t even Nasch reincarnated. It is implied, if not canon, that the Kamishiros are Descendants of Nasch and Merag (however so, because I don’t think they had kids??), so I guess it makes sense, that they look similar. But definitely not the same! I also made Nasch older than Ryouga, because I won‘t have a 14 year old fight in a war and lose every single one of his soldiers (and his sister and adopted daughter). Here he‘s 19.
-Which also brings me to my trans!Ryouga headcanon, where I think that Ryouga was actually born a girl— Important! Ryouga, not Nasch! Nasch was born as a boy. — So Ryouga was originally a girl, but after the accident, when Nasch‘s soul entered her/his body, Ryouga started to feel more like a boy, because her/his soul was now actually a male and not female anymore.
-Also I finally settled down, what nationalities I think all the Barinas are. As you can see I headcanon Nasch and Merag as Greek (maybe Japanese mixed as Ryouga and Rio, but still part Greek, because of the descendants thing). I just blame the locations of their ruins on volcanic locations shift, as someone informed me about it on my map post. You‘ll see what I came up with for the others, I’m especially excited for Vector.
-I also liked the Heterochromia in his Barian form, so I think he had it already as Nasch and only got it back, when regaining his memories and barian powers. Because the left eye of the barians only turns red when dueling, so they can see the monsters and all. You could say they see… Duel Spirits. But that’s the thing. They can only see them in duels or when they „activate“ their red eye. But I think Nasch, as the leader of the barians is so powerful that his red eye is permanent, making him able to see duel spirits all the time. (I mean Vector had to absorb 4 barian emperors to even truly compete with Nasch, meaning Nasch alone is as powerful as 5 barian emperors)
-I changed his necklace to an actual shark tooth, because I was so disappointed, when I found out it wasn’t a real shark tooth. I mean, yeah it‘s cute that it had a family picture of them in it, but I’m not saying he doesn’t have that anymore, just not in a necklace. I think the tooth is something he got it from his father, because I headcanon he was a marine biologist. Ryouga also wants to become a marine biologist and study sharks. Because being emperor isn’t really an option in this time.
-We know Ryouga and Rio share silver rings and he still has his, he now just has a golden extra one with a sapphire, which serves as a promise ring for him and Durbe. Durbe of course also has one, also golden with a ruby.
-He, Rio and Durbe all share friendship bracelets, with their barian aura colours. It was Rio‘s idea, but Durbe made them.
-I also love the idea of him and Rio having shark teeth. Were they born with them? No one knows…
-Now for the Nasch redesign, I gave him a more casual kind of look. Of course he has some armour, but only wears it later in the story, when really going into war.
-I also gave him a crow BECAUSE KING NEEDS A CROWN and made it look similar to his barian crown, but with extra wings on them. He let them be added to the crown, to show his connection to Durbe and the alliance with his king indirectly to the whole kingdom. Also because he misses him. Of course not every one was fine with this, but Nasch was such a beloved ruler, no one dared to oppose him.
-I got the Idea for the sword switch from a fanfic I read about them once, where they actually got their swords together ad named them after each others stars of the big dipper. So here they got their swords, but switched them and named them after the other (Dubhe and Benetnasch) so they could still fight side by side, even when apart.

My favourite Duel in the Series by far is Vector vs. Durbe and Merag
Because
1. Vector‘s Expressions and lines are the best as always
2. We get a cool magical girl transformation for Merag
3. We get to see Merag‘s and Nasch‘s Bond with Durbe a bit more! Because this is one of the only time we have seen such raw Emotion on them! When Durbe sacrificed himself we saw the heartbreak in their eyes Like Nasch‘s Reaction is just pure fuel for my Tomoshipping Fire
4. And of course the heartbreaking farewell of the twins
I just love this duel, because we see so much emotion from Nasch and Merag, NOT Ryouga and Rio!
They are fighting for Barian World and are shedding tears, when their longest and most loyal friend Durbe dies, which tells us so much about their bond BEFORE their time as Rio and Ryouga
And that’s exactly what I want!
Give me more Infos about their Relationship with the other Barians!

I just kinda wished, that we saw a bit more of Nasch‘s and Merag‘s time as Barian Emperors before Vector tried to kill them.
I want to see how their relationship was with the other Barians and how they interacted with each other
I would 100% watch a show solely about the Barians

Okay, hear me out, the Tomoshipping Brainrot is hitting so hard right now-
Because imagine:
We saw in the school festival episode, that Rio is in the Theater Club or just does theatrical plays at school. So, what if they‘d want to do some medieval romance play about a knight and a princess and Rio gets the role of the princess. She goes to Durbe to help her rehearse her lines and-
He‘s just so good?? At playing the knight??
Because he WAS once a knight, so he just FEELS the role!
So she asks him to officially play the role, but he‘s a bit unsure. Because it IS a romance with kiss scenes and all, so he‘d rather talk to his boyfriend about it first. Kissing someone else, even if it IS just Rio, feels weird to him and like he‘s cheating or something. But Nash tells him, that it’s no problem (solely because it’s Rio, if it were anyone else he‘d be very against it). It’s just a play and it’s just his sister. He knows that their bond goes way deeper than this, so it shouldn’t be a problem, right?
Oh, but it IS. At least for Nash.
So, after some thinking Durbe takes the role and we skip to the evening of the play. And Nash is just sitting there in the front rows and just absolutely torn between a feeling of pride and jealousy. Pride, because look at his boyfriend, he‘s doing so great and he’s so awesome and acting so romantically-
And jealous because he isn’t acting romantically towards HIM. He can even hear the hushed dreamy sighs of the girls around him in the audience, gushing about HIS boyfriend and that certainly isn’t lifting his mood.
So through the whole play he‘s just sitting there pouting and frowning
And part time cringing about the dialogue, but he can‘t say anything because 1) He knows he was WORSE in the mushy letters he wrote to Durbe in their past life and 2) He doesn’t want another shoe thrown at him.
But then in one act the knight does a monologue about how much he loves the princess. And while Durbe is supposed to look into the distance, he just STARES Nash directly in the eyes the whole time while he is talking about his undying, forever eternal love. He might even slip up and accidentally say he instead of she once, but he corrects himself so fast only Nash notices.
Nash has to fan himself with the play pamphlet, because he just grows such a hot blush on his cheeks, it’s so bad. HE‘S down bad. Just completely whipped. Can‘t even remember his own name for a second-
Then later after the play is done and they finally get to talk in private, the convo went a bit like this:
Nash: You were incredible, love!
Durbe: Aw, thanks! But it was all thanks to you!
Nash: Huh? Why?
Durbe: Because I was just always thinking of you! :3
Nash: …Say what now-
So, yeah turns out, that in every single romance scene Durbe was thinking about Nash. He pretended he was talking to Nash, talking about Nash, kissing Nash, etc.
And how many slip ups he had at rehearsals, because he was always saying Nash‘s name by accident.
And while he‘s talking about this, Nash is just
So in love.
Like just stands there, face red and thinking omghewasthinkingaboutmethewholetime
And then he just tells Durbe to shut up, because he needs to kiss him so bad right now.
Please I need someone to write this out, they’re so important to meeee 😭😭
