The average watermelon consists of 4 colours: Green, white, red and black. Firstly, green represents the nature and growth of the circle. Second, white is the highlight of purity and beauty within the fruit's appearance. Third, red is the sweetness and fierceness that lies in the taste. Fourth, black is the bold seeds that stand with power and strength. These colours are what show the fruit's harmony and devotion to one another- from what was once a planted seed in soil and dirt became a harmonised field of the heavens.

I took a vintage ornamentation and turned it into a Palestinian flag for my fundraiser. The design can be found here.

The immediate area around where she is from has been fairly secure recently. We're really hoping it stays that way. It will be sad to see her go, he has been noticeably less depressed with her here. She has been a great comfort to him.

Another poppy design pieced together from open source resources, this time in a map of Palestine. Finally got more or less caught up on research yesterday so I made a few new things for my fundraiser:

These are all edits of an old vintage photo of the Dome of the Rock from the Al-Aqsa mosque compound. It looks a little different than it does today. There have been several renovations since this was taken, most notably the addition of the iconic gold plated roof in 1959-1961. You can find these designs here, here, here and here.

Not related to the shop but I need to vent: some old Zionist asshole showed up at a research talk my friend gave recently and loudly spoke over him from the audience, we believe it was intentional harassment. We have a major problem with these old fucks in STEM programs it's so frustrating. My friend still did amazing though, he is so good under pressure. I'm so fucking proud of him.

I've already made something similar to this, it seems like a good design for a sticker. The keffiyeh was a gift from the friend I am fundraising for. He gave it to me back in October while I was trying to comfort him, I have worked photos of it into a lot of my designs.

I put together a minimal star and crescent design with the Palestinian flag. The star and crescent is a very old symbol, some version of it predates Islam to at least as far back as Byzantium around 300 BC. It became popular again under the Ottoman empire and from there grew in the 20th century to become a very standard symbol of Islam. Unlike the cross in Christianity it does not have a direct textual link to the religion, and some Muslims do not accept it as a religious symbol. Despite this it is still widely used.

I want to share how one of my favorite stickers from my fundraising shop looks after printing (sorry the photo is a little poorly lit). I've bought a bunch of stickers from my shop to test how they turn out and give them to my friends, and I'm quite happy with how well this one in particular tends to print (quality may still vary depending on your local print shops, if your order gets messed up Redbubble should give you a refund or new copies).

These two photos, of an iris and poppies (both flowers that are commonly used to represent Palestine) come from the Library of Congress's "Wild flowers of Palestine" collection. There's a bunch of other old flower photos on there too but I picked these because they are particularly common symbolism. I tweaked the contrast a bit to make them pop more and added the "فلسطين" label to each so the meaning of the photo is more apparent when you stick them on things. They're small photos so only available as stickers and magnets, here and here.

I'd like to encourage our fellow grad students to check out these examples of statements from grads at the Goldman School of Public Policy and the UCSC Astronomy Department and attempt something similar at your school. The military relies on STEM professionals to build their war machine; it's up to us to pressure our colleagues to avoid that sort of work.

I've made a bunch of poppy designs, but the Faqqua iris is the more official national flower of Palestine, I figured I should do something with it too. You can find the above design here.

As usual ALL PROCEEDS are for my Palestinian best friend, to take care of his loved ones. He will donate any his family doesn't need to the Palestinian charities he works with. He's hoping to donate most of it if possible, he always gives everything he can to those in need, which is really impressive because he has never had much for himself in his life. He's always the first person to buy food for the homeless people outside the cafe, or send a paycheck home to help his relatives, or bring food and supplies to a labor action. I currently have his nice coat because he put it on me when I was cold and told me to keep it (I'm going to wash it and give it back anyway, haha). Outside of a few sentimental possessions most of his stuff ends up being given away sooner or later to someone he thinks needs it more.

He felt weird about accepting this charity at first, I had to convince him to hold onto the money from this fundraiser for his own loved ones (some of whom are definitely in a really precarious position) rather than give it all away to charities immediately. He's so generous, even to his own detriment sometimes. You guys, I'm feeling really emotional today, I love him so fucking much. God I hope things get better soon.

Also to my fellow grad students, our department is currently working on making an easier path for grads to bow out of research they have a moral objection to, in addition to putting together a statement on Palestine. If you have a lot of colleagues on your side and particularly if you're in a program like engineering, physics, astronomy or applied math (with a lot of military applications) you should try to see where your funding is coming from and support grads in divesting from ethically questionable research. I won't say too much about what we're doing because I don't want to risk doxing my friend, but here are some examples of statements from grads at the Goldman School of Public Policy and the UCSC Astronomy Department. We (STEM students in particular) are the next generation of minds behind the military-industrial complex; let's make participation in the war machine unpopular.

Two new designs for my fundraising shop, found here and here. The first is the word فلسطين (Palestine in Arabic) edited into a simple open source dove design. The second is a vintage photo of stained glass windows in a mosque in Bethlehem (West Bank) from the Library of Congress. The original is pretty faded and dull, I messed with the saturation and contrast to make it pop more for a sticker design. It's pretty low resolution so I only have it available on stickers and a couple other small products. I really love this photo, it looks like it would make a great metal album cover (kinda reminds me of Sick With Bloom).

A simple edit of this open source image. Slingshots have become a common symbol of Palestinian resistance, as many heavily one-sided conflicts over the years have involved protesters throwing and slinging stones against the Israeli army who are of course fully equipped with guns, tanks and armor.

As usual ALL PROCEEDS from my shop are for my Palestinian best friend, to help him support his girlfriend in remaining in America until it's safe for her to travel back home and to help his friends and family in Palestine and around the rest of the Levant who are being hurt directly and/or financially by the attacks on Gaza, the raids in the West Bank (this has unfortunately hit his family quite hard) and the collateral damage in surrounding countries. He will donate anything his family doesn't need to the Palestinian charities he works with. You can find the design above here. Here are some product examples:

I have been made aware that this free graphic looks somewhat similar to a Gogol Bordello album cover when on a yellow background, so just be aware of that possible association when purchasing I guess.
