It’s so frustrating, Jay thinks to himself, watching Kai, no, Kai’s body, sit up in front of them, that every time he tries to do something to make it right, his friends always manage to get the upper hand. It was Kai first, who offered to help Cole with his problem. Then, it was Zane, who gave him emotional support and saved everyone from the exploding summoning circle. Now, it was Kai’s body that Cole seemingly possesses, just right after their argument and Kai’s backlash at the idea of Cole even managing to still exist. All this time, Jay has wept for him. For one moment, he thought he could turn the table and make something work. But it’s all for naught.
