omg this is so great!
[ID: A full body digital drawing of Roman Sanders falling from the sky. He reaches out to the sun with one arm, his hand stretched out. Sun rays hit him from above and he looks up with a wide-eyed anguished expression. There are tears in his eyes. His wings, which are fastened to his arms, are falling apart, and loose feathers surround him. He wears his usual prince outfit. His sash is blowing with the wind, along with his hair. A golden crown has fallen from his head. On the background there are huge clouds, painted in golden, orange and brown tones. Warm yellow light comes from above. /End ID]

Oof. This is the kind of Roman angst I live for.
Y'all ever think that, because it was his idea to stay with that one dashing fellow, which caused Thomas to consider lying to Joan about missing their script reading, Roman might be blaming himself for Deceit appearing and all that happened after.
listen i'm not at all good at coming up with angst but
absolutely don't imagine Roman not hesitating to sacrifice himself to save another side, leading him to be fatally wounded with a low chance of survival
at least this way, he finally got to be the hero, right?
I was just making a day out of watching Sanders Sides animatics and One of them had the song:
Let It Out- TGWDLM (and we stan starkid so-) I thought about the lyrics and how they actually really fit Roman-
I’ve never been happy
*Wouldn’t that be nice?*
Is this the secret?
*Singing and dancing through life?*
Is my integrity worth anything at all?
*But happiness can’t come before its fall*
Am I crazy?
*Maybe I’ve always been*
Become what I’ve hated?
*Or maybe I never did
It’s awful freeing now*
To share the hate I felt
But what will I let in if I
Let it out?
So an argument that gets repeated in SvS and SvSx2 is that Thomas is unlikely to "win" the callback. This is Roman's territory - it's really up to Roman's ability and talents whether he wins or not. Yes, it's very difficult and not totally up to Roman, but the point that keeps jumping out to me is the wedding be priority because the callback is unlikely to lead to anything.
It's no wonder Roman has self-esteem issues when the people he cares about, from his perspective, didn't believe in him.
