Solo Leveling | ☆☆☆1/2
Hi! I binged seasons one and two of Solo Leveling last night and I have to give kudos to the animation team that carried the entire story. Solo Leveling has been hyped up for me for a long time, especially in a family who watches anime, but I was surprised when the show kind of fell flat. I LOVE an underdog story and I really loved how Sung Jinwoo powered up throughout season one, but after he became stronger it just kind of...becomes a bit boring plot wise.
Still, I can't deny that the show is addicting. I couldn't stop watching because I loved the amazingly animated fight scenes and it's always really entertaining to see the mc beat up bad guys. It just gets to a point where the bad guys are just there to make Jinwoo look good and the other powerful main/side characters are there to just marvel at Jinwoo's power.
I was watching it with my sibling and he says, "This is just aura leveling."
And oh my GOD, it really is just aura leveling. Everyone is fighting each other's auras and Jinwoo becomes edgier and edgier throughout the anime. Sometimes scenes would feel corny because you know that Jinwoo is going to win, but he starts screaming and yelling about how he'll never lose. Really, the fatal flaw with this anime is that we know he's going to win and become even more ridiculously strong, so his epic comebacks end up feeling a little bit over the top.
just had a feeling throughout the show that Solo Leveling was written by someone who wanted to feel really cool
Still, the world building is VERY interesting. I was confused in the beginning of the show because there were people with medieval armor fighting dungeons, but then it cuts to modern city scenes. The explanation of the gates popping up in random parts of the city is so cool, especially when we learn that the world relies on Hunters to keep them safe.
Then, there's the politics surrounding hunting that really fascinate me. Especially, when a character says that S-rank hunters are pretty much above the law. I literally said, "WHAT?!" out loud. It makes sense because hunting is a relatively young business, but it was shocking nonetheless. I could go more into this, but there's just too much to analyze and not enough room.
In the end, Solo Leveling just felt like a lot of mc dick-stroking and aura maxxing with a smidgen of plot.
Hey, this wasn't me trying to yuck your yum though. People prefer shows where the mc is a total badass and I respect that. Personally, I just prefer a more flawed main character who loses and rises back up. I want to feel and believe the desperation of Sung Jinwoo, but when all he does is win, it's hard to cheer him on.
I'm really enjoying what little plot I'm getting though and I can't wait for Jinwoo to solve the mystery of the "System" keeping him alive and the mysterious monsters that glitch and seem to have a past. Who knows, maybe it'll save the show for me and Solo Leveling will get a higher rating!
Anyways, we left off on a cliffhanger, so I'm excited for the next episode to come out! I have a feeling though that Jinwoo is going to save the day...again...and do it relatively easily...and people are going to stare in awe at him and main characters are going to be reduced to damsels in distress...and so on and so on until the show ends...
We would be infinitely happier if there were more JinDok fics, they are so perfect 🙌✨️

Summary: Being born as a boy in another world was more than enough trouble to deal with but apparently, the gods weren’t satisfied with just that and smashed him in the face with a curveball by getting involved with none other than Sung Jinwoo, the main character of Solo Leveling.
Prologue
Kiran calmed himself, ‘It should be okay. As long as he didn’t get too involved and only supported him on the sideline. He shouldn’t be able to disrupt the plotline all that much. As long as he leaves once everything is settled.’ While thinking that, Kiran awkwardly patted the crying boy on the head to comfort him.

‘This should be fine.’ He thought as he tutored Jinwoo little by little to learn some combat techniques he was taught as a soldier.
Strict and cold, completely different from his usual cheerful and casual personality, E-rank Jinwoo trembled at the vast difference.
He didn’t like this change.
He wants ‘his Kiran’ back, the Kiran who would pat him on the head with warm eyes.
..
‘It wouldn’t hurt to do this once in a while.’ He thought as he cooked a warm meal for the siblings, paying a little more attention to Jinwoo’s favorite dishes to nourish him for his next raid.
Unbeknown to Kiran, this made Jinwoo particularly picky about his favorite food after. If it wasn’t cooked by Kiran, Jinwoo’s tongue could only taste the food as bland.

Watching proudly on the side as his little charge finally gets announced as an S-rank to the whole world and gets close to the future Mrs. Sung, Cha hae in.
Kiran thought ‘It’s probably time to leave. They should be fine. He should be fine now.’
Kiran smiled, completely unaware of the longing and heated gaze being given to him by the man whom Kiran stayed with all this time, through thick and thin.

Facing the person in front of him, Kiran nonchalantly listened as he sipped his coffee, “Kiran, you should finally join the organization. It’s the only place for ‘us people’ where we could at least belong somewhere in this world.”
When he said ‘us people’, he meant people who have been either reincarnated or transmigrated from their old world and got stranded in this bizarre world of novels.
Since Kiran has finally decided that it's time to leave the siblings now that the Sung’s mother has awoken from ‘the eternal slumber’. Kiran couldn’t help but contemplate the idea of joining, in truth he doesn’t have anywhere else to go once he leaves.
When Kiran stayed silent, lost in a daze, his shadow darkened and shivered severely, unnoticed by him.

Breathing heavily, Kiran wiped the sweat on his chin as he eyed his foe. His eyes dilated and a maniac smile painted on his lips, finally having been released after so long, his blood boiled in his veins telling him to defeat his enemy and to never hold back ever again.
The same intent seems to go through his opponent as they laugh in amusement before covering their face, heaving, and clutching their stomach.
“Hahaha! Forget about what I said earlier. You’re an interesting one.”
They smirked at him before raising a hand, beckoning him. “I like you. Come and join me instead.”
Kiran, having been ready to rebuke the man, flinched at the sudden spike of bloodlust, his opponent paling and the surrounding people.
‘What the-?’
Looking where it came from, Kiran shivered as he stared at Jinwoo, his eyes glowing and filled with so much rage it was hard to breathe.
One thing was running through Kiran’s mind, ‘His opponent just called his death flag for some reason.’

Kiran groaned as two strong arms, that were once weak; cage him into the chest of the man behind him. Jinwoo buried his head on his shoulder and angrily whispered behind his ear, eyes burning with fury and turning a dark purple hue.
“All this time, I’ve only gotten stronger so that no one steals something important to me and yet, everyone just wants to take you away from me all the time.”
Kiran, “....”
‘Fuck...’
Just where did Kiran go wrong to have unknowingly raised a yandere, especially since the world he was born in was supposed to be a shounen action manga, not shounen-ai?!

One gripe I have with genderbent characters is that people change the height. Like no no, keep him freakishly tall. Make those who gaze upon her quiver in their boots. Just because he is now a woman doesn't mean she can't bench you, rip your spine out like she's deboning a trout and turn you into one of her shadow slaves-
Anyway I genderbent Jinwoo because this ramble was brought on by my friend buying a female Jinwoo skin in a game.
She doesn't look much different with my style you can hardly even tell, but I tried.
Most of what I draw is guys anyway...
Also tiddies are not a requirement to be a hunter, if anything, they would get in the way?

I have a soft spot for guys with cats, and to me I feel like Jinwoo has the vibe of a cat lover.
Stoic, strong, tall guys that could easily break a man's spine over their knee being all soft for this tiny, silly creature, willing to go John Wick if someone hurts the smol. Bonus points if the cat is adopted from a shelter. :]c

Jinhyuk really just reminds me of a cat for some reason... Maybe its due to his irises being drawn completely black?

Jin Woo luchando peleas con un huevo de Kaisel, y protegiendolo como una verdadera mamá gallina. Los otros cazadores no entienden nada.
Sung Jin Woo fue encadenado como el monarca de los gigantes y es soltado por algunas personas, ganan un aliado muy poderoso. Los monarcas no existen, sólo los humanos asustados que lograron encadenarlo (Magia maldita quizás) (Usando a su hermana como señuelo, sus padres murieron durante la guerra entre los cazadores de los países grandes)

(Estas loco por pensar eso) Sus propios ojos apenas pudieron seguir esos miseros segundos de lo que se volvería su más grande agonía. Como un ser como ese maldito monstruo podría atravesar con su gigantesca mano y sus garras el cuerpo de su más grande amigo. La sangre salto con el golpe y mancho el suelo frente a mi cuerpo caído, luego cayó al suelo y comenzó a arrasar con la tierra debajo. Mis ojos conectaron con los de Byung en ese instante y pude sentir en carne propia su dolor, su agonía, su miedo a morir, y un latido después el monstruo se comió la cabeza de Byung. Mi cuerpo no pudo respirar antes de lanzarse hacia adelante, la ira moviendo cada articulación, quemando cada nervio y empujando hacia adelante, pero no era suficiente el dolor para ser rápido. Es sujetado por el cuello por la hormiga no mucho luego de saltar hacia el frente, sus pies no tocaron el piso, su bestia se desencadena, quiere venganza, quiere su sangre. (Quiere a su amigo de vuelta) El monstruo cruza miradas, se burla, se pavonea, y habla de nuevo. Es la voz de... La furia parece una niebla que entra por cada brecha de piel, la bestia está dolida, pero más que nada está furiosa, toma el brazo de la hormiga que lo sostiene y aprieta, intenta clavar sus garras en el exoesqueleto, llegar al tejido blando, herir, romper, dañar. Hacerle pasar por el mismo dolor que lo está devorando por dentro. Pero sus garras no perforan, su fuerza no es suficiente, no puede contra este monstruo. Incluso el maldito bastardo no aprieta su agarre, no busca matarlo, sólo saborea la agonía dentro del cuerpo de su bestia, la impotencia de no haber podido hacer nada y no ser lo suficientemente fuerte para hacer algo. Perdió a su más querido amigo, a su hermano, y aún así allí está, solo. La adrenalina sube y el cansancio también, la forma de la bestia comienza a retroceder lentamente, pieza por pieza. - Hyung... Corre... Pero de repente empuja con todas sus fuerzas hacia el mundo de nuevo, y lo patea hacia atrás, quiere venganza. Sus uñas arañan y muestra todos sus dientes mientras le gruñe al monstruo, quiere alcanzarlo y morder su delgado cuello para despedazarlo, no le importa que fuera mas fuerte que él, esa información paso a dormir en su mente a cambio de la ira brutal e inconsciente que quiere arrasar con su enemigo. Sus uñas no hacen nada a las placas del monstruo, pero sigue presionando, no por su vida sino por la venganza, la rabia de una verdadera bestia. Sus dedos sangran y no puede llegar a nada, raspa la superficie y no perforan nada, sus uñas se rompen y sigue presionando con sus dedos bañados en sangre, deja que se valla su carne y siga con sus huesos, no le importa. Quiere destruirlo. Y de repente... El bastardo ríe. Con la inconfundible voz de mi querido Byung, y eso es lo peor. _/\_/\_/\_/\_ Ni bien cambie de lugar con mi soldado en la sombra de la cazadora Cha Hae-In, observé realmente que tan mal habían ido las cosas. No sólo los cazadores habían sido superados en poder, sino que estaban realmente en una sitiacion desventajosa. La cazadora Cha Hae-In estaba inconsciente, otro cazador también, Choi Jong In estaba sangrando en grandes cantidades pero estaba consciente y sólo estaban ilesos el cazador Ma y un cazador rango A, Min Byung-Gyu no se veía por ningún lado. Y Baek Yoon-Ho estaba.. Gire y capture con mis ojos lo que realmente los rumores no podían llegar a hacerle justicia. Baek Yoon-Ho realmente era una bestia. El movimiento repetitivo y bestial al que se removia continuamente mientras trataba de romper algo del brazo que lo sostenía por el cuello, los rugidos que escupia en la cara del insecto y la sangre que marchaban sus manos sólo acompañaba la impactante imagen. No se veía asustado, se veía furioso. Igris. Tusk. Mis sombras prestaron completa atención a mi llamado. Protejan a los cazadores. Avance hacia la hormiga sin mirar atrás a las sombras que se separaban de mis pies antes de romperse y formar las formas de mis soldados, sólo avance hacia el encuentro con el
insecto y el cazador que actuaba como como una bestia frente a un enemigo más fuerte. La hormiga me reconoció y soltó a Baek Yoon-Ho para encontrarse conmigo. Dio un golpe y levantó la tierra, mis ojos sólo pudieron seguir la forma blanca de una bestia que se negaba a retroceder y saltaba como un verdadero depredador a las espaldas de la hormiga, quien iba a filtrarse para atrápalo pero interrumpi al saotar al frente para golpearlo hacia otra dirección, Yoon-Ho se veía listo para seguirlo. Me acerqué a detenerlo ya sabiendo la diferencia de poder con sentirla, pero algo me hizo detenerme. Algo se sentía extraño, algo se sentía diferente en el cazador Yoon-Ho. Se volteó a verme un instante, y en sus ojos pude ver una respuesta. Ese no es el cazador Baek Yoon-Ho. _/\_/\_/\_/\_/\_
Mis soldados se dispersaron hacia todas direcciones una vez mate al insecto y volví para revisar a los heridos, para buscar el cuerpo de Byung. Parecía ser la única opción que tenía en estos momentos que con la gravedad de las heridas de Cha Hae-In se volvía critico. Mis pociones no podían hacer nada y no tenía habilidades curativas conmigo. Además de preocuparme de tener un ojo sobre el cuerpo del cazador Yoon-Ho quien parecía inconsciente estando consciente, sentado a un lado, solo y evitando la mirada de todos, pero ya no en su forma de bestia. Había respondido mansamente las preguntas del cazador Ma pero no habia apartado la mirada del suelo, parecía que los cazadores no podían cerrar la idea del cazador Baek Yoon-Ho actuando como una bestia. Uno de mis orcos traía el cuerpo de Byung Gyu en sus brazos de forma suave, camino todo el trayecto hasta mi y lo dejó a mis pies. El abdomente estaba perforado y le faltaba la cabeza, la sombra aún extraíble. Observe en mi periferia la reacción de Yoon-Ho, no puedo culparlo por haber actuado de esa forma con lo que probablemente observo que le hacían a su amigo sin poder hacer nada contra una fuerza mayor a la suya. No es como si no lo hubiera visto moverse puesto que era más rápido, pero Yoon-Ho se transformó en su forma bestia y recorrió la pequeña distancia hasta el cuerpo de Byung Gyu en un instante, asustando a quienes miraban. No esperaba ese tipo de reacción, pero definitivamente se sintió como algo natural. Comenzó a extender los diente y a gruñir, a nadie más que a mi. No pude evitar sentir lástima por él, humano o bestia, ese debía ser lo peor. Alzaba su mana en punta y en abrumadoras cantidades, parecía pensar o saber que podría estar pensando en hacer con el cuerpo de Byung-Gyu, o algo más. Pero no había tiempo, el estado de la cazadora Cha estaba empeorando cada vez más, cada vez más rápido, a este paso podría tener más oportunidades de volverse una sombra. Iron. Distraelo. El cuerpo de Iron se alzó a mi izquierda y luego se acerco a Yoon-Ho a zancanadas con su escudo frente a él, bruto pero con algo de astucia, muy bien. Yoon-Ho, o mejor dicho la bestia dentro de él, salto al frente presa de la furia ante un ataque al cuerpo que protegía y corrió hacia Iron, quien estratégicamente comenzó a retroceder para alejarlo. Tome mi oportunidad y comencé a probar mi suerte. Surje. Parecía no querer funcionar de buenas a primeras, pero tengo dos oportunidades, así que voy a necesitar que copeere. Surge. Y puedo ser muy terco, porque necesitamos que esto funcione o no sólo habria una muerte. Surge. Las sombras se arremolinearon antre ellas y con el cuerpo del cazador, antes de que un brazo negro y repleto de armadura cruzara desde el centro del cuerpo en el suelo. Un brazo, luego dos, luego asomó una cabeza encapuchada antes de impulsarce y sacar todo su abdomen y sus piernas. El cazador Min Byung-Gyu en todo su esplendor, con su libro bajo su brazo. Cuando comenzó a avanzar sin que le dijera nada hacia la cazadora Cha, escuche los ruidos de la batalla de Iron contra Baek Yoon-Ho terminar de repente. Iron se retiró ante mi pensamiento, y Yoon-Ho comenzó a avanzar hacia el grupo de cazadores de nuevo. La forma de bestia no se fue, pero eso no impidió que sus expresiones no fueran visibles, estaba confundido y sorprendido, pero también había dolor allí. Min Byung-Gyu curo a la cazadora Cha Hae-In en instantes y luego se volvió, a comparación de la mayoría de mis sombras, se veía relajado aún muerto, tranquilo, avanzó hacia Baek Yoon-Ho, quien quedó estático en su sitio. Byung-Gyu se detuvo frente a Yoon-Ho y extendió la mano que no sostenía el libro que cargaba, lo dejó suavemente sobre el hocico de la bestia de Yoon-Ho, eso me sorprendió. ¿Qué clase de gesto..? La mano de Byung-Gyu froto el hocico y luego la cabeza, como si estuviera clamando a algún animal asustado. Sorprendentemente la forma de bestia de Yoon-Ho lentamente comenzó a retroceder, hasta que quedó en su forma humana y Byung-Gyu acariciaba un
cabello rojizo en lugar de uno plateado. Baek Yoon-Ho se veía consternado, hasta que algo cambió en su rostro con el pasar de los segundos, quizás el cazador Byung-Gyu le dijo algo, aunque parecía no hablar, pero Yoon-Ho se veía un poco mejor. Sólo un poco. Hasta que hablo, y apenas se detectaba el dolor mal escondido. - A Byung nunca le gusto pelear, y se que es muy fuerte y un exelente aliado, pero no lo obligues a pelear. - Sabía que las palabras fueron para mi aunque no apartó la mirada de Byung-Gyu, quien ahora tenía su mano en la mejilla de Yoon-Ho. - No lo obligues a hacer algo que jamás le gusto. Apenas pude sonreír al sentir la empatía de la situación. - ¿Cancelar invocación? - - Si/No - (Al final el loco si era yo)
