This picture would have been of the Taras Shevchenko monument in Kharkiv. Many objects of historical/cultural significance all over Ukraine are covered by tarps in an attempt to preserve them amidst russia’s constant waves of attacks.

This is what Ukrainians have to do to protect their heritage from erasure by russia. As of today, February 13th,2025, russia has damaged/destroyed 1333 cultural heritage sites and 2185 cultural infrastructure facilities in Ukraine since the full-scale invasion (According to Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine).
