Can you imagine being little Hong Hong'er, always bullied and picked on and told how hated you are and at your lowest point in your short, tragic life so far, the man that saved you, now become a gracious god, reveals himself to you, to tell you to keep on living, to tell you he's there for you and that your existence isnt cursed even though everybody says so? To let you know he can feel your devotion and faith?
And can you imagine later growing up, seeing this same wonderful man go through tragedies that nobody else would have been able to endure, remembering his kindness and seeing it be used as a reason for torment - and then later, perhaps upon ascension or any other means, learning that it is forbidden for heavenly beings to reveal themselves to mortals?
No wonder Hua Cheng loved him for 800 years

the versatility of xie lian as a character is peak

I love re reading the first Hualian meeting bc HC is probably 1. Fangirling so hard 2. Going over his very meticulous plan of what to do and say when he met XL. Like you know that one part in Spy x Fanily where fluffy head boy goes on a date and asks Loid for help and he makes him ENDLESS pages of what to say and responses? That’s what I’m sure HC (Yin Yu) did for this.

Like I love how we all think he’s this smooth guy 24/7 but no. He’s pathetic. He’s a fan boy. He’s so in love his brain cells all die. He probably tried outfits for an hour and tried his best to come up with what to say before he met XL again. He made sure everything was PERFECT. He’s trying so hard not to scream and fanboy over XL rn. In fact hes trying his best not to get on one knee and propose.

Hualian post-canon domestic tooth-rotting fluff.
E-Ming loving hours in which Ruoye gets love too.
Hua Cheng being a headache while having a headache.

Summary: When Xie Lian woke up, two things were unexpectedly the same as how they were hundreds of years ago: he spontaneously got in the mood to dance —something that he didn’t remember happening since his first banishment— and Hua Cheng decided to hide his face.

"sun & moon" okay but what about two moons who love each other with the faint glow they try so hard to muster up in the darkest night except that love flickers and dies because ultimately they need the sun's light to survive. haha.
hualian is great but huaqing. ohhhh huaqing. two bastards with equally sharp tongues who will give as good as they get. but also if you dig a little deeper into their mutual dislike it's like. oh fuck they're so similar that it's easier for them to "hate" each other than admit the deeply ingrained insecurities they have.
i like the whole devoted aspect of hualian but if you shift canon a little and make it so that mu qing is the one who caught hong-er you get to see hua cheng watch someone who was born into the same situations as him, who was consistently ridiculed and treated as inferior, grow to be a fiercely powerful and loyal individual. it's not just god x devotee anymore, you've given it a raw humanizing aspect because mu qing CLAWED his way to where he is, and so did hua cheng.
even without changing canon you can see that hua cheng went down the path of surviving because gege became his reason FOR living, but mu qing has always been willing to keep himself and others afloat even as they kick and scream and beg to drown.
there's just this desperation mu qing carries in everything he does and to see that blend with hua cheng's uncaring or even disdainful attitude towards others is something that i think would be beautiful. like they balance out each other's most hidden and scarred parts so easily.
they're so similar yet so different it's like they're dancing around each other oh my fucking god i just. the parallels and possibilities huaqing has make me violently ill.

It's late, I've woken up twice, taken a melatonin but still can't sleep and the only ridge on my smooth brain of exhaustion right now is contemplating whether Hua Cheng would be jealous or proud of Yuuri Katsuki. I think if he was watching Yuuri on Ice as a show he'd be proud, but if he was meeting Yuuri he'd be jealous. Either way he'd relate to having a shrine of your idol.
