I don’t get Moonwater prank scenarios …. Why is Regulus suddenly not a blood supremacist but Sirius still does the prank and needs it thrown in his face for the rest of his life to be a better person

Sirius, in cannon, is a 6'5 giant who would make fun of the most popular fannon version of him out there. He's not mature enough by fifth year, in the sense that he's a prankster, and doesn't often take other people into consideration. He would do the prank regardless. In this case, the moonwater scenario, whether he acknowledged it or not, deep down, he wanted to get back at Remus for being with Regulus.
Both the Black Brothers definitely make mistakes. We all do. They hold things over each other all the time. They're brothers, their allowed to hold grudges against each other. Also, I meant the rest of his life bit as more of an exaggeration. Obviously, after a while, it's not going to be brought up that often, if at all. Some people need reminders to help them, I mean, growing up in their household, they would learn by being reminded constantly of what not to be. Constantly reminding Sirius could be Regulus' gut instinct on how to stop a repeat, whether it will help Sirius or not.
Also, any ship with Regulus that isn't like Barty or Evan or both or someone in Slytherin is probably going to have Regulus as not a blood supremacist. But it is a huge part of his character. In the end, though, he does change his way of thinking, trying to destroy a horcrux and everything. (I haven't read all the books, so I could be completely wrong on why he went horcrux hunting.) You can just push back when he changes his thinking and change how he does it.
In the end, this, the entire Marauders fandom pretty much, is fannon. Most shippers of queer relationships and mulltishippers exist because of the fanbase and the fact that you can mix and match and change shit up.
I see moonwater as more of a library get-together thing, where Sirius was probably just talking, and he brought Regulus up, and he has a lot to say on the topic. Remus, hearing how much the brothers' relationship is going downhill, he wants to try and fix it because growing up, he never had that sort of connection or any at all really and didn't want them to loose theirs. Also, thinking about it, no one, unless they asked Remus directly (which they probably wouldn't due to his scars), would know if he was a pureblood or not.
Lupin is a pureblood name, and I don't really see Lyall as the type to shout it from the rooftops that he's married to a muggle. He also hid their family away from the world (probably) when Remus was turned. So, no one really knew he existed until Hogwarts.
So Regulus, with a strained relationship with his brother, probably didn't even know that Remus was a half blood. He just saw one of his brother's Gryffindor friends trying to make friends with him in the library. It was a relationship built over a good couple years of studying and careful suggestions and correcting that by the time he found out that Remus wasn't a pureblood, Regulus didn't really have any opinion on it at all.
This confused Regulus a lot and had a mini mid-life crisis where he had to re-evaluate everything he thought he knew and the fact he still wanted to date Remus and that he wasn't repulsed by the fact.
Ultimately, with Remus pushing the brothers, they start to figure their shit out properly and start talking again.
Sorry if this all came out sounding passive aggressive that was definitely not my intention. I just got passionate about it 😅
Idk if this has been round tumblr yet, but how do we think Regulus would react to finding out about the "prank" that Sirius pulled on Remus in fifth year.
Already dating moonwater.
Remus is going to Regulus as soon as he can walk again, sobbing the hardest he ever has, inconsolable really. He has to get talked down from multiple panic attacks before he can even get a rough explanation out of what James had told him had happened, who at the time was shaking so badly from poorly concealed rage at Sirius.
But Sirius better count his days. If he isn't already disowned by now, he will be shortly because Regulus will stop at nothing to make his life a living hell until Remus and Sirius have made up on their own terms. He is beyond livid and manages to turn most of the school against Sirius when they don't even know what happened (like Harry's 4th year but worse)
Hello! Do you have any fics that feature the prank and it's aftermath?
We sure do! Please find a few fics below that deal with the prank aftermath.

Thank you so much for visiting the Librarian!
I really want some angst after the prank fics. Do you have any? Thank you!
Oh friend, for many readers this is such a huge part of the appeal of the marauders. There are a few previous lists linked below along with some extra fics on this subject. Hope you find some new fics to love but be prepared for the hurt/comfort feels.
A Simple Fact by trailingoff Whatever happens, whatever he does, whoever he tries to be, Sirius’s father was right about one thing.
The Red Phone by @wanderingbandurria It’s the summer before Seventh year, and things haven’t been easy for Remus Lupin in the past year, between Snape gaining knowledge of his lycanthropy and him giving up his prefecture to avoid casting attention. Things with his friends have been strange too, James angry at Sirius for the first time, and Sirius making less flamboyant displays and making Remus nervous when he catches him looking at him with weirdly fixed eyes. And then, one hot afternoon, a red phone appears in the middle of the Lupins backyard. He takes it, of course, because he is a Gryffindor, goddammit, and even more, a Marauder, and not for nothing.
By the Seaside by shoebox_addict In the wake of 'The Prank,' Sirius visits Wales with Remus over the summer.
all lies and jests by @angwrites The days are measured as such: before Monday, and after Monday. The "after" days come one by one yet all at once, while James watches his friends fracture, and tries to help put them back together. In the end, it requires more than a single motorbike ride or bar of chocolate. It requires learning when to run and when to stand still, when to talk and when to say nothing, when to interfere and when to leave them to it. However...
Several Ways to Apologize by Aria "The thing is, though," Sirius said, addressing the scarlet draperies, "Moony's not going to give me legumes and yell. He's too nice."
Concerning the 25th by Psychomanteum (SilentP) The full moon rises at seven in the evening on December 24th, 1996. This is, coincidentally, the first full moon that Sirius knows Remus Lupin is a werewolf. Not coincidentally, December 25th is the first day Sirius will spend three hours waiting outside a Ministry building.

My headcannon is that this is a reference to the prank when Sirius revealed that Remus is a werewolf to Snape. I think before Remus was able to forgive Sirius they were of course not talking, and while James and/or Peter definitely would have been angry with Sirius for what he did, it I don’t think he would have entirely shut him out either, which would make it hard for Remus to be around them. I like to think that he and Lily really go to know each other well during this time and Remus was even able to gain a little independence while he wasn’t constantly with the marauders. Again, just my headcannon, but I think it explains that line in the show well
When PoA film-Remus tells Harry his mother was there for him at a time no one else was, what do you think that was? (If it's in the books, I've forgotten. Currently on a re-read and will find out eventually)
Hello @loonyloopylupin96 💜
I don't think this is in the book but I have always loved that moment in the film. The beautiful, tender score and the performances are so moving, particularly David Thewlis' whose Remus is everything.
I have always interpreted that as Remus thinking about all the ways in which Lily was there for him during the course of their friendship. My headcanon is that Remus and Lily were always close and had a natural affinity for one another. In fact, my headcanon is that for a long time that Remus was the only Maurader that she liked. I also headcanon that she shares things with Remus that she wouldn't share with others, even James, particularly in regard to the complexity of her feelings about Snape.
I even go as far as to imagine that had many things been different, Lily could have easily have fallen for Remus in the right circumstances....and perhaps sometimes wondered what might have been...although she never says anything about this to anyone...but I'm getting side-tracked...
I headcanon that outside of the Marauders and certain teachers that Lily is the first person that learns about Remus' lycanthropy outside of this tight-knit group at Hogwarts. Remus carries so much shame and self-loathing about this, and Lily's reaction was thoughtful, considerate and compassionate. And he never forgets this.
As the First War progresses, and speculation and tension rise as to who the potential spy in the Order is, Lily vocally defends Remus against Sirius' accusations. James finds this time really difficult, and feels less able to intervene with his loyalty between his friends tested and a natural tendency to side with Sirius on things. This is something that Remus also never forgets.
Thank you for asking. It was lovely to re-visit that scene again 💜
