The Weekly Writing Update #25

Apology post. From now on, I won’t be updating weekly on a schedule. I’ve thought about it and even though I made it my New Year’s resolution and I want to put in the effort, I still keep making no progress almost a whole month into the new year. And I promised to show progress and having to post updates where I continue to say I have nothing to show for myself is stressing me out and making my inability to write worse.

I will post updates, just not as frequently and not for awhile, until I have something at least. So until further notice, there will be no updates on my wip.

First update of the new year! And I actually have a bit of progress!

I’m in the process on deciding on a huge but slight change in the plot/character subplot, still deciding. But other than that, I actually did write a few hundred words of the first chapter! Which is a very good start. I need someone to harass me into keeping this one though, so I don’t chicken out and change this later. PLEASE (I’ll probably just get my boyfriendddd~~ to do it)

It’s slow progress this week but it’s progress, which is more than I can say for the past few weeks.

The Weekly Writing Update #22

Last update of 2022! With work slowing down, I hope to make better progress starting this upcoming year. That is my new years resolution. I want to push myself to make more solid progress, to have more to show for myself.

I tried several times to sit down this week and write but my writers block gets worse the more I'm not writing. And thanks to writers block in the first place, I'm not writing. :(

End of the year though. For everyone struggling with writers block, lets all hope the new year brings change, lots of inspiration and motivation, and clears away the blockage! I wish you all luck in your writing endeavors this new year.

Last day before Christmas! Merry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone!!

This is hopefully the last week with no progress. Going into the new year, I will have more time and (please god) more inspiration.

Speaking on coming up on the new year, I’m coming up on my wip’s two year anniversary! Kinda sad that I don’t have a full chapter written for it yet, but it has changed so drastically from the original idea,,, it’s insane to see how far I’ve come and how far I still have to go.

Also just had the worst day at work but I have a semi update: I didn’t get much writing done AGAIN this week, but I managed to write a couple hundred words in starting sentences. Which is a start. I’m just glad I have something to show for the last week, even if it’s lame.

This may be obvious to everyone else, but the Holiday season is kicking my ass at work right now. Which is why I haven’t been writing,,, pretty much at all. You can count on me picking it back up after the new year though. Thank you to everyone sticking around, even if you’re few and far between. :)

I will try and get out of this rut asap! Ive started this thing to try and help me write even while I’m busy as work, even if it’s just a couple sentences with a cool aesthetic. I want to post more progress for those of you who are watching my journey!

No update this week. I’ve been dealing with work and being sick. I have had absolutely no time to sit down and write or even brainstorm ideas, so I’ve decided to call this past week a blank week.

OK UPDATE BEFORE MIDNIGHT BECAUSE I FORGOT TO DO IT EARLIER SHIT

⇨ I started to work on chapter one, but it’s still going VERY slowly. Like a-word-a-day slowly

⇨ slight plot adjustments again, but still generally the same

Other than that, not much. Ive still had little no progress in terms of actual writing because nothing comes to me when I sit down in front of a blank page. Also I’m working so much I don’t have time.

The Weekly Writing Update #17

I’ve been so busy with work and binging Rick and Morty, however I still have an update because I’m that awesome.

I made MAJOR changes to the plot. Or idk if that’s the right wording,, I adjusted quite a few details that changes things quite a bit, so not small changes but not changes so massive that it makes this a completely different story

⇨ Magnus now has a set love interest now, along with a side romance that goes nowhere because right people wrong timing ykyk, so it’s set up for some pretty rad angst >:)

⇨ Zen is now Tomoe’s Problem, however he’s tied to both of them because he helps Magnus with [redacted] hehehe

⇨ Magnus’ mentor is no longer his grandmother, but instead just a caretaker who took him in. And instead of her dying right before the beginning of the story, she has a minute of screen time and then dies. Oops

Lots of other changes that I won’t mention for spoiler sake, but I’ve got it all in a journal and binder for safekeeping :)

Off topic for a second: but I feel like I’ve made big improvements this week. Not just with my writing but my life in general. I’ve been doing better at work, and just feel like I’m improving mentally. Thank you to all of you who have been following my journey.

The Weekly Writing Update #16

Not much of an update other than the fact that I did end up going back on that idea for Alden and Tomoe. Ha ha.

Had a few ideas but everytime I sat down to write—which I didn’t do much because I’ve been so busy—nothing came to me. Truthfully, it’s been like this for a few weeks and it’s pissing me off. So this past week I wrote a total of one sentence.

Okay so I had major writers block this week, :( I kept sitting down to write but nothing came to me. but I worked on the plot a little bit so hopefully I write more SOMETIME when I’m not working or sleeping.

⇨ Alden is now introduced a little bit later, and how he’s introduced is also changed as well as his relationship to Tomoe. I think this can make their relationship a bit more interesting, but I also loved their old dynamic so don’t be surprised if next week I go back on this. But to be fair, I can still use their old dynamic and adapt it to this change… hmmm

⇨ Working on my villains and their motives. God I’m going to make them the sexiest bitches ever

I think that’s all. I’m really a lousy writer and always focus on the ‘planning’ and ‘ideas’ rather than actually writing, but I want to document my progress nonetheless.

The Weekly Writing Update #14

oh my. god. I’ve been so busy I didn’t even notice it was Saturday. UPDATE DAY

ok so, I started writing chapter one (only a couple hundred words, but it’s something) and I really like this version so hopefully I stick to it, pray for me.

Other than that, not much. But I'm happy to have finally started WRITING again, instead of just staring at an empty google doc waiting for it to come to me. So this is good.

The Weekly Writing Update #13

Again, not much of an update this week. My (minuscule) progress was mostly ideas this week. And I hate that when I actually had free time this past week, when I sat down to write there were no words. Writers block is such a BITCH

But anyway, I’m glad to have had some new ideas.

⇨ I created the villain for the end of the series, the one at the end of everything. Even got a sick ass name, I just need to visualize their appearance using picrew. Because I can’t draw.

⇨ Got a cool idea for 1-2 (possibly 3??) chapters in the middle. Which is good, because right now the middle of the book is just a vague idea. I need more plot/chapters ideas for the middle but for now I’ll start here!

The Weekly Writing Update #12

I don’t have much of an update again this week except that I got some idea for a chapter one. However I had work yesterday and had no time to write it. I ended up going back to my messy google doc of old drafts/versions of my wip, going all the way back to the earliest ideas and it generated some new ideas for me, which is good!

⇨ I also moved some things around, Alden being introduced in later chapters instead of right away. I think it’ll fit better.

⇨ I also got a solid idea of my MCs personality, which I had been putting off. I had a vague idea of him but now I feel like he has a real personality so that’s great :)

I feel accomplished, almost. I would feel more accomplished if this week I had more progress than just ideas but yk.

The Weekly Writing Update #10

I have no idea what to even write for this update.

I chose to step back from the plot chart yesterday and try writing chapter one, because that's the one that needs the most work right now. The other chapters I had finished were laid out in detail, but chapter one was only a few ideas because I always struggle with the beginning. I don't know how to start my book.

Anyway, trying to work on chapter one made me spiral and I started rethinking the entire plot and it got so bad I just gave up and went to bed. Since I woke up, the plot doesn't feel so bad anymore and I've stopped spiraling, it's just chapter one still thats bothering me the most.

So if anyone has any advice I would love to hear it. Because I'm kinda at the end of my rope here.

The Weekly Writing Update #9

Ohmigod I’ve been so swamped with work I almost forgot to write this.

Ok so here's the biz: I did almost get to 3k words, but then I had a new idea for chapter three that threw all that sideways, so i've spent all morning deleting the now-irrelevant info and rewriting the new chapter plot. Tbh, this new one is so much better than 'he accidentally finds out who she is and she just decides~ to stick with him'. Now her decision to stay makes sense according to her character and all is good. ish. :)

However, I am now set back a few hundred words. I know the word count shouldn't matter but its bothering me so I'm going to spend the rest of the day before I have to go to work reworking this plot chart. yayyyyy.

⇨ Other than my mess of a plot chart, I got a really cool idea for a villain for book two! and I already figured out a way to make them signifigant in book 1!! God I'm gonna make this villain so sexy

BOOYAH told you guys I’d reach 2k by tonight lol :))

The Weekly Writing Update #8

Im halfway through plotting my wip! I'm 1.7k words in!! I haven’t added to it yet this morning, but I’ll be at 2k by tonight, so yay! My current goal in mind is 15 chapters, but it could end up being more or less depending on how I continue to plot. Right now, I'm about 1/3 of the way finished :)

This is coming along much quicker. Before, I kept my plot in my head or on various scribbled notes and ideas in docs and journals and loose sheets of paper. In a whole year and a half, I've gone through many ideas, many plots, always changing and adjusting and I could never stick to one idea and I never sat down to actually plan it chapter by chapter. But I'm so glad I finally did, and for future wips, I plan to plot it out in a doc as well.

I know this isn't an achievement to other writers, but to me its a huge step. I always thought I could just go along and write as the ideas come to me, but it seems that doesn't work for me anymore like it did when I was 11. So it's time to change tactics. I'm growing as a writer, and I want to document my progress, and I want to share this with other writers.

The Weekly Writing Update #7

The whole past week, I dedicated to plotting out my wip, but it's still unfinished. I had to work, which took up a lot of time and I wasn’t able to get as much of it finished as I wanted to. I did get quite a few chapters planned out though, so its still coming along. I'm not sure exactly how long this plot chart is going to take, but I'm hoping to get it finished soon.

I've found that my focus issues aren't getting any better, so as I'm writing up this update, I'm currently procrastinating adding to the plot chart (damn).

I am working on it though. so

The Weekly Writing Update #6

This past week has been and this next week will be spent outlining the plot down to each chapter. Up till now, it’s been a bunch of ideas all vaguely spread out between beginning, middle, and end. But it’s caused a lot of chaos and I’ve changed and rewritten the plot many times, so a chapter-by-chapter layout of the plot will do me MUCH good :)

The past week, I got the chart set up and started a little bit. But this next week I plan to work on it way more and hopefully complete it!

The Weekly Writing Update #4

Not much to update on this week. It’s been slow

⇨ I made a few slight changes to the plot, the protagonist’s journey being a much more direct result of what the villain is doing and now making them much more connected plot-wise, and not just through backstory

⇨ still only a few hundred words in, but I know where I’m going so hopefully I make more progress within the next few weeks

⇨ As I’ve said previously, I had a handful of details and a character that I didn’t know what to do with and so it didn’t overload the plot, but I think with the change I’ve made, everything fits and it’s not too much :) yay!

Hopefully this STICKS and I don’t keep overthinking and changing the plot every week.

The Weekly Writing Update #3

Making progress! I deleted the other opening scene I came up with and started a new one, but I'm a lot further along in this one and feel a lot better about it.

⇨ Still worried about how a few details are going to fit into the plot but I'm still working on it. I’m trying not to make the plot too complicated, so I’ve split it into what the villain is doing and what the protagonists are doing and how it’s connected

⇨ The part I’m struggling with the most is the beginning, so I just need to get past that and I think I’m good. Everything else is planned out and I’m not worried about that as much

⇨ I didn't make as much progress as I would have liked, but I have been pretty busy this week, with starting my new job! But I'm hoping this next week has more progress

The Weekly Writing Update #2

Week two!!

I’m a few hundred words in. I’m a bit slow, but I’m making progress. Right now I’m just finding the right wording and putting the pieces I have in the right places so that this mess somewhat resembles a story.

⇨ I want to create a more consistent schedule. Maybe writing 200 words a day. It’s not a whole lot so I don’t feel overwhelmed, but not so little that a weeks worth is still major progress. This could lead to a chapter each week (if I can stick to this plan)

⇨ I have a character that I don’t know what to do with. The plot has gone through so many changes, I don’t know how to fit him in without overloading the plot, but I also don’t want to just get rid of his character

That’s it for this week! It’s not much, I’m hoping to have more progress next week.

The Weekly Writing Update #1

Howdy! This week is the first official writing update for my wip! There isn't much, but I do have a couple things;

⇨ I have officially decided to call my wip The Prince, The Prodigy, & the Seeing Eye, at least until I think of a better title. I'll use that tag on all posts related to my wip

⇨ I fixed the beginning scene to fit better, and the words are flowing easier!

⇨ I do have one concern: one character who is going to be a crucial part of the first book and a main character, isn't going to be as central in the rest of the series. I'm worried this is bad or if I should fix it, but I know its something I can worry about later

That's all I have for this week, most of the past two days was me changing my main into this writerblr, and trying to fix that mess in chapter one.
