A community and family is mourning the loss of Daniel Kevin Harris, whose life was taken this week by a State Trooper who apparently fears sign language. Harris, who is deaf and mute, was gunned down in front of his house.
“I was here in my driveway and I saw the highway patrol car come through and it was smoking really bad,” said neighbor Mark Barringer. “About 10 seconds later, I heard one gunshot.”
Harris died on the scene. He was 28-years-old.
Neighbor Ryan Russell said he’d see the man out in the neighborhood speaking in sign language with his family. “It seemed like a very peaceful family. These things are always heartbreaking.”
In the land of the free, a deaf man suspected of driving too fast can be killed in cold blood. Unfortunately, as we’ve shown time and again, this type of mistreatment and attacks on the deaf by police are all too common.

“Care to dance?”
Shinsou’s heart leapt out his chest as he turned to see Denki standing behind him. The blonde’s hair was carefully slicked back in an attempt to make himself look more distinguished, but the same old mischievous glint danced in his eyes as he smiled.
“I’m afraid I can’t accept your offer.”
“Why not?”
“You still owe me gas money for driving you here. Until I get that, I won’t even look at you.”
With that remark, Shinsou quickly turned back around so Denki couldn’t see the way that he looked at him.
The way he longed for him.
And being the oblivious idiot that he was, Denki didn’t notice as he plopped down next to him, sighing in defeat.
For a while, it was quiet.
Just the pair enjoying the beauty of the garden before them.
And just as soon it started, the silence quickly ended. Denki fumbled on the bench in a desperate search for something and Shinsou couldn’t help but stare as the blond unknowingly made a fool of himself. He pulled out his wallet and turned to him with the widest smile etched into his delicate features.
“If I give you 20 bucks, on top of the money I already owe you, will you dance with me?”
Shinsou’s head whipped towards him, and in that moment it seemed as if the word surprised was permanently slapped across his forehead. He paused, contemplating his choice, before answering.
“Make it 25 and I’ll even do the waltz.”
“Deal.”
Denki stood and placed himself in front of Shinsou. Gracefully, he drags him back into the slightly crowded ballroom. As he laced Shinsou’s hand with one of his own, Denki’s other hand awkwardly made its way down to the male’s hips before quickly settling back up on his chest. Noticing this, Shinsou smirked at the blonde’s nervous laughter, lacing an arm around his waist.
Soon enough as they began to spin in small circles, careful not to draw any unnecessary attention to themselves, it all clicked together.
In that very moment, it was as if their hearts were beating in sync. Time slowed down and the world seemed to revolve around just the two of them. They danced to a rhythm that only their hearts knew and didn’t seem to care if a single soul judged them for it. They stared at each other as if they were the last two people in the universe.
And at that moment, it seemed like they really were.
