part 2 of the poll series
this is part 1 of a survey idea i've had. each poll will be a week long and they will all run at the same time.
feel free to participate and tell us which your favourite team(s) are and why :D
i might do a general version as well later on (not just 2024 season) along with a poll about DTS.
Note: I can't do favourite drivers as it won't let me have that many options on a poll :((
Also Americans forgive the spelling.

Red Bull Racing's decision to promote Liam Lawson over Yuki Tsunoda has sparked significant debate within the motorsport community. This decision raises questions not only about the drivers' performances but also about the underlying dynamics of race and representation in Formula 1. Critics argue that this choice reflects deeper issues of racism within the sport, particularly regarding how drivers of color are treated compared to their white counterparts. Christian Horner, the team's principal, has often been scrutinized for his management style and decisions that seemingly favor certain drivers over others, leading to claims that he is obstructing the career progression of POC drivers.
Yuki Tsunoda, a Japanese driver, has shown considerable talent and potential since his arrival in Formula 1. However, despite his performances, he has faced challenges that may not be entirely performance-related. Tsunoda's struggles can be partially attributed to the intense pressure placed on him as a POC driver in a predominantly white sport. The scrutiny he faces is often magnified, and any mistakes are highlighted more than they might be for his peers. This disparity in treatment raises concerns about systemic bias in the sport, which can hinder the development of drivers like Tsunoda.
In contrast, Liam Lawson, a New Zealand driver, has been promoted despite having less experience in Formula 1. While Lawson has demonstrated potential in other racing series, his ascension over Tsunoda can be seen as indicative of a pattern where POC drivers are overlooked in favor of those from traditionally dominant backgrounds. This practice not only undermines the efforts of talented drivers like Tsunoda but also perpetuates a cycle where diversity in the sport remains stagnant.
Christian Horner's approach to team management has often been characterized by a preference for certain types of drivers, which can be perceived as biased. His decisions in promoting drivers tend to favor those who fit a specific mold, often sidelining POC drivers who may not receive the same level of support. This pattern raises questions about inclusivity within Red Bull Racing and the broader implications for diversity in motorsport.
Sergio PƩrez serves as another example of how POC drivers navigate the challenges of Formula 1. While Perez has achieved success, his journey has been fraught with obstacles that highlight the disparities faced by drivers of color. Despite his impressive performances, there have been instances where his contributions were undervalued compared to those of his white counterparts. This inconsistency in recognition points to a broader issue within the sport, where POC drivers must consistently prove themselves to gain the same acknowledgment as their peers.
Moreover, the promotion of drivers like Lawson over established talent like Tsunoda can create a chilling effect on aspiring POC drivers. Young racers may feel discouraged from pursuing their dreams if they perceive that their chances of success are hindered by systemic biases. The lack of representation at the highest levels of motorsport can deter future generations from entering the sport, ultimately stifling diversity and innovation.
The conversation surrounding Red Bull Racing's decisions is not just about individual drivers but speaks to the larger narrative of inclusion in motorsport. The sport has made strides in recent years to address diversity and representation, but incidents like the promotion of Lawson over Tsunoda reveal that there is still much work to be done. It is crucial for teams and stakeholders to recognize the value of diverse perspectives and experiences in fostering a more inclusive environment.
In conclusion, Red Bull's decision to promote Liam Lawson over Yuki Tsunoda raises significant concerns about racism and bias within Formula 1. Christian Horner's management style appears to favor certain drivers, often at the expense of POC talent. As the sport continues to evolve, it is imperative for teams to prioritize inclusivity and support the development of all drivers, regardless of their background. By addressing these issues head-on, Formula 1 can take meaningful steps toward creating a more equitable and diverse racing environment.

feel bad for Lawson though, as much as he hasn't performed well they promised him that they will give him time to adapt and now 2 races in they've demoted him back. It's their own fault to promote a driver that doesn't have much experience to drive that god awful car and they're ruining someone's career because of it. Well Alex & Pierre have shown that there is a career after Redbull but the mental toll it takes must be insane.
A particular kind of silence falls in a garage before a race. Itās not quiet with radios crackling and the hum of tire warmers and mechanics shouting about torque and telemetry. But itās a kind of silence in my head, like the calm just before I let the car swallow me whole.
I live for that silence. That, and the smell of burnt rubber. Iāve never fit into any neat little box anywayānot the way people expect, especially not when I got into F1 at 19. People expected me to be the new kid, quiet and compliant. And, well⦠okay, they were half right.
I was quiet. Still am, mostly. I donāt talk back, I let the track speak for me. That was something Seb used to say. āYou donāt need to be loud to be heard, Moni.ā He was my mentor before he became everyoneās eco-uncle and left us⦠left me. I still miss his hugs. And Daniel, god, Daniel was like my older brother, but funnier and worse at keeping secrets. He once said I had āgolden retriever energy disguised in a kittenās body.ā Which is both cute and slightly concerning, but very him.
Anyway, itās been five years now. Iām 24, and things have changed. Thereās a new wave of younger drivers, some shinier, and Iām not the ābabyā anymore. But I guess I still get called the āPrincess of the Grid.ā Mostly by Lando. Once, Carlos said it during a press conference, and Lando wonāt let him live it down.
My mother raised me, just the two of us. She worked nights at a hospital and still managed to drive me to karting sessions on weekends. It wasnāt glamorous. We didnāt have the money that most kids in motorsport had. But I had her. She never yelled, never cried in front of me. Just kept going. Quiet strength. Maybe thatās where I get it from.
My dad left when I was six. I donāt remember much about him, and the stuff I remember feels more like watching someone elseās home video. He wasnāt cruel, just... unfinished. He didnāt know how to stay, and he missed a lot of things: my first race win, my Super Licence, and my debut in Formula One. Sometimes, people ask me if weāre in touch, and I say, āNo, but Iām sure he knows where to find me.ā I mean, itās not like Iām hiding.
I signed my first F1 contract at nineteen with AlphaTauri, back when it was still AlphaTauri. It was a blurāmedia, pressure, more cameras in a week than Iād seen in my whole life. I kept my head down. Scored points when I could. Learned how to breathe in that car-shaped pressure cooker. I was never the loud headline, but I stayed consistent. That's what mattered. The paddock doesnāt always reward consistency, but it remembers it.
I still drive for VCARB even now, and I like it here. Weāre not the underdog or the top dog. Weāre the kind of team that sharpens you and makes you better.
-------------------------
Media day always smells like too much cologne and burnt coffee.
Itās a mix of waiting around in branded teamwear and pretending not to hear the questions asked in the next booth. My PR manager, Livia, clips a mic to my collar with practiced ease, gentleness usually reserved for bomb diffusers or hairstylists.
āYou good?ā she asks, smoothing the VCARB jacket over my shoulder.
āDefine good,ā I say, giving her a slight grin. She rolls her eyes.
āSmile. Be nice. Donāt swear.ā
āAlways nice. Almost never swear.ā
āAlmost being the keyword.ā
She pats my arm and walks off, already on the phone.
The first few interviews are standard fare. Strategy questions, performance reviews, tyre talk ā everything Iāve answered a hundred times, just repackaged in different accents and camera angles.
Interviewer: āMonica, do you think the teamās Q3 performance in Jeddah was a turning point?ā
Me: āIt was a data point. A good one. But one race doesnāt define a season.ā
Interviewer: āYouāve been praised for your tyre management this seasonāā
Me: āI just donāt fight physics. Thatās all.ā
They laugh. One asks if I meditate. Another wants to know what I eat before a race.
āToast,ā I say. āAlways toast.ā
Thereās a short break after the fourth interview. I peel off the mic and flop onto a couch in the VCARB media room. Isackās already there, drinking a Red Bull while on his phone watching one of the videos the admin made us make on Instagram.
āYouāre trending,ā he says, not looking up.
I groan as I close my eyes to take the smallest nap a human is possible. āAgain?ā
He turns the screen toward me. A photo from last week, me again, blurry, exiting a hotel lobby at midnight. Someone had zoomed in on my hand touching someone elseās arm.
āYour mysterious shadow boyfriend strikes again,ā he grins. āThis time, people think itās someone from the grid.ā
āGreat,ā I mutter. āI love when my life makes headlines. You keep laughing, Isack, but one day, you won't even be able to pee in peace without getting on headlines."
He ignores me and keeps scrolling. āAlso, apparently your āenergyā matched Pedro Pascalās according to this fan edit.ā
I blink. āWhat does that mean?ā
āI have no idea. But I support it,ā he says with a grin, and gets off the couch when his PR manager calls him for an interview.
I watch him walk away before my phone vibrates.
Carlos: MONICA.
Lando: Maāam, why are YOU trending and not for overtaking someone???
Alex: Girl, you okay? Did you break the internet??
lewis: Princess, did I miss something, or did you go on a date with Pedro Pascal??
Charles: WHO IS THE MAN? Alex won't tell me anything.
Carlos: Becca won't either.
Max: I will find out. I know people.
Carlos: Moni. Seriously. Who is it?
Me: Stop spanning the group chat
Lando: We are not doing such thing, answer.
Oscar: We want to know?
Max: Does Daniel know? I bet he does.
Me:ā¦ā¦
Charles: Young lady, come back here.

Sebastian (privately): 1 massage - unread
I stare at Sebās message for a second too long. Then I press the side button and lock the phone without replying. The last interview of the day is with a lifestyle networkāthe ones who care more about what moisturizer I use than my racing line through Sector 3.
The questions start light.
āWhatās always in your travel bag?ā āHow do you relax between races?ā āIf you werenāt an F1 driver, what would you be?ā
I answer them all. (Sunscreen. Sleep. Veterinarian.)
And then
āSo, Monica⦠the internet wants to know: Are you dating someone?ā
Thereās a beat of silence. Not awkward. Just quiet.
āIāuh.ā I blink. āI donāt usually talk about my personalāā
āWe know! Thatās why everyoneās curious. There have been some pictures latelyālate dinners, hotel lobbies. People are sayingāā
I donāt hear the rest. My throat tightens. I nod slowly, a polite smile barely glued on. Livia appears out of nowhere, like a PR magician.
āIām so sorry,ā she cuts in. āWeāre running late for a strategy debrief. Tight schedule today.ā
The interviewer tried to hide their disappointment, but Livia was already guiding me out of the chair with a hand on my elbow and that fixed āthis is fineā smile that PR people must practice in the mirror. Once weāre out of sight, she mutters, āYou okay?ā
āIām fine,ā I lie. In the hallway, I check my phone again. Sebās message is still sitting there. Still unread.

Pedro Pascal is seated comfortably and exudes his characteristic warmth and charm.
Interviewer: "Pedro, 'The Last of Us' season 2 episode 2ā¦.what an episode it was, it delves deep into love and loss themes. Has portraying Joel influenced your perspective on personal relationships?"
Pedro: "Absolutely. Joel's journey is one of profound connection and vulnerability. It's made me reflect on the importance of having someone who grounds you and brings light into your life amidst chaos, just like Ellie did for him in a daughter-father way."
Interviewer: "That sounds personal. Are you currently experiencing such a connection in your own life, maybe with a lover?"
Pedro: "Well, let's just say I've been fortunate to find someone who brings that kind of light and grounding into my world."
The interviewer raises an eyebrow, intrigued.
Interviewer: "Care to share more?"
Pedro Laughing, shaking his head, "I think I'll leave it at that for now. I don't want trouble."
Within hours, the internet was ablaze with speculation. Social media platforms were flooded with clips of the interview, and fans dissected every word and expression.

MONICA IS DATING PEDRO
PRINCESS OF THE GRID x INTERNETāS DADDY š
āImagine going home to the Princess of the Grid and she makes you toast while talking about tyre deg šā āShe was quiet but had the rizz of a thousand suns.ā āOh my god. THE fanfic is real.ā
Monica: He didnāt mean to I think He was just talking. Thatās how he is. He gets soft and starts talking, and the words fall out
Daniel: Thatās adorable. Iām vomiting a little, but itās adorable. So itās real? Like, real real?
Monica: Yeah. Itās been a few months now. Met him at an awards thing. He was nice. Didnāt treat me like a headline. Didnāt ask about fame at dinner. Just asked about my favorite books. Stuff no oneās asked in years.
Daniel: You deserve that. You so deserve that. But youāre freaking out, huh.
Monica : I feel like Iām standing on a trapdoor. Like the minute I smile too wide or hold his hand in daylight itāll open and everyone will pile on. I worked so hard to be taken seriously. Being the first woman in F1 was hell at first. You remember. People said awful stuff. Called me Sebās āpet project,ā remember that? Or the ābaby with daddy issues.ā
Daniel: Yeah. I remember. I also remember you outqualifying half the grid with a migraine and two hours of sleep. Youāve got scars. Doesnāt mean you hide forever.
Monica: Heās older. People will tear it apart. Say Iām looking for a dad. Say Iām broken. And with mine leaving, I never really figured out how to not let that stuff crawl under my skin. I know itās stupid. But Iām scared. Of the headlines. Of the comments. Of being too happy and getting punished for it.
Daniel: Thatās not stupid. Thatās human. But you donāt have to carry it alone. Talk to Seb, Mon. Heās worried. We both are. Youāve got us. You always have us.
Monica: I havenāt opened his text.
Daniel: Mon, you know you have to talk to him at some point
I sat curled up in the corner of the hotel bed, hoodie sleeves pulled over my hands. The room was too cold, not physically, but in that way hotel rooms are when you donāt feel like you belong in them. My phone sat in my lap like it weighed five kilos. Sebās name had been at the top of my messages for three days. Unread. Unopened. But never ignored. I stared at the notification, thumb hovering over it like the screen might bite back. Then, finally, I tapped.
Sebastian Vettel [3 days ago]: Hey, little one. I saw the headlines. I just wanted to say, I hope itās true. Not the rumors. The happiness. Youāve always deserved to be loved out loud, not in secret. And you donāt owe anyone an explanation for that. If people try to turn your joy into ammunition, thatās on them, not you. Call me if you want. Iām here. Always. š
It hit me in layers. I could hear his voice in my head as I read. His calm, that steady warmth he always had, even when the whole world was watching him. I didnāt cry. Not really. But something loosened in my chest ā something I didnāt realize Iād been holding onto so tightly. Like someone had cracked open a window in my ribs and let the stale air out. I stared at the message momentarily before hitting his number and hearing the ringing sound.
----------
Practice day always feels like the calm before the circus. Except this morning, the circus was already rolling in. By 9 a.m., the paddock was alive, TV crews in place, PR managers buzzing like caffeinated bees, fans pressed against the barriers, phones ready. Security tried to keep a clear path, but the chaos was controlled at best. Sky Sports F1ās Rachel Brookes adjusted her earpiece and stood near the entrance gate, mic in hand, eyes trained on the team hospitality areas. She nodded to the cameraman. āAlright, we're rolling in three, two, oneā¦ā
āGood morning from the paddock,ā she began, the signature warmth in her voice. āItās Friday, itās practice day, and weāre already seeing a few drivers arriving.ā
From behind her, someone in the crowd screamed as Charles Leclerc strolled past in Ferrari red, smiling at Leo with Alexandra by his side. Moments later, George Russell appeared with Carmen beside him, both dressed like they had walked out of a campaign shoot.
Rachel turned slightly to the camera. āA few of the gridās familiar faces are arriving with their partners today, a little off-track love before the focus shifts to race pace.ā
Then the air shifted. It wasnāt loud at first. Just⦠aware. Phones lifted. People stood on their toes. There was a wave of murmurs, the kind that travels fast, faster than even a car down the straight. And then there she was. Monica, the grid princess, walked through the gates like sheād done a thousand times. Cool. Grounded. Calm with her usual sweet smile. Except this time, she wasnāt alone. Pedro Pascal walked beside her, their hands linked, his thumb brushing over her knuckles.
Rachel blinked, then leaned toward the camera with a slightly incredulous smile. āAnd⦠Monica Cruz is walking in this morning with none other than Pedro Pascal. That⦠is quite the entrance.ā
Click. Flash. Shutter sounds like popcorn. Monica didnāt stop walking. She didnāt pose or break stride. But she looked up briefly, smiled toward the crowd, and gave a small wave with her free hand. Pedro leaned close to her ear, clearly saying something only she could hear. She laughed, genuinely, softly, like no cameras were watching. Rachel, still recovering, added, āWell, thatāll be the shot of the weekend before the engines even start.ā

Author note: I had this idea and just had to get it down, even if itās rough or awkward. I know itās not perfect, and I apologize if the writing feels unpolished, but I hope the story's heart came through and that you enjoyed the concept. Iād love to keep writing and improving, especially regarding details and dialogue. Next time, I want to include more of Monica interacting with the grid and the other drivers. I hope this first part of the story feels like a good start.
This is so godamm beautiful!
I realized this a long time ago, but I will never truly support a team. I support and cheer for drivers, the people individually, because teams and organizations so often do not truly reflect the morals and beliefs of their individuals. At some point, money and bureaucracy take over, and things become muddy. I support drivers, not teams, becauseā¦
because Fuck You McLaren for what Daniel went through in 2021 & 2022 and the way he was treated behind the scenes and in the camera view the and the blatant disregard for his mental and physical condition and health, but I love Oscar Piastri with all my heart and how you donāt let the fights on track bother you outside of it and understand that racing is racing and what someone says there is not how they think of your person beyond it.
because Fuck You McLaren for the way you do team orders and how you put so much pressure and strain on your driverās relationships and Iām talking about Hungary 2024, but Lando Norris you speak so much about mental health and Iām so glad you do because you bring light to a major part of any sport that so many ignore and I thank you for championing it so much.
because Fuck You Red Bull for dropping so many drivers at the flip of a coin because they canāt compare to your other driverās talents and how you also show such blatant favoritism itās disgusting and for the way you dealt with Christian Horner, but Max Verstappen is an incredibly kind and intelligent person who was given a bad hand but will not let the cycle repeat, and Daniel Ricciardo is a man who deserves so much more than what he was given and he still smiles and loves this sport with so much itās terrifying to watch, and how much they have given and gotten back and grow because of who they are.
because Fuck You Williams for treating your drivers so horribly and having such obvious favoritism that it is detrimental to your driverās health and specifically Fuck You to James Vowels for your insane behavior, but Logan Sargeant you deserve more than you were even given and Alex Albon you were one of the best teammates Logan could have ever asked for, Logan you deserve the world, thank you for opening the door for us.
because Fuck You Mercedes for trying to change who your driver is to fit your image because Valtteri deserved so much more and the way he was sacrificed was disgusting, but Sir Lewis Hamilton you champion so many and give a voice and platform to so many, bring attention to movements that have lacked support and the respect a d compassion you have for your fellow drivers, and how youāve learned from your past and not let that define your relationships going forward.
because Fuck You Haas for the way you treat your drivers and how you never support them properly and Iām talking about You Gunther Steiner and the hell you put Mick through, but Kevin you did everything just to make it back, working as a welder for a year in a factory to claw your way back, and Mick you are more than just your name you are also a genuinely kind soul who I wish was given more time in multiple ways, and I know itās hard but youāre doing amazing even if people in the past said otherwise.
because Fuck You Ferrari for the way you bleed your drivers dry and give them nothing while pretending to give them everything and how you cut some off so quickly itās disgusting, but Charles LeClerc you have a soul that is too old and there is too much pain and sorrow painting your life path already, but you drive for yourself and for others, and you give hope back to those who have wept at Ferrariās doorstep for generations, and you love with your heart so openly that I cannot help but admire you.
because Fuck You Alpine for the way you have treated drivers and how you have screamed of loyalty while also giving them no reason to be loyal and making their time there more painful that what is worth, but Pierre I know you mourn every second for lives that have been lost and you would scream from the rooftops if you were given a chance and I would hand you a megaphone because you have a rightful reason to.
because Fuck You VCARB for how you also drop drivers but I know itās because you are a Red Bull subsidiary and how you gloss over how your drivers can be treated and how you try to sensor their anger and emotions, but Yuki Tsunoda I will forever applaud your skill and dedication to your team and sport, and I know it can be so hard being so far away from home in a land so foreign but you have carved out a place for yourself and I know youāll make your dream of having your own restaurant come true.
because specifically Fuck The FIA for the insanity you decide is right and wrong and for how you let money blind you so much that you decide someone campaigning human rights and safety is a political statement and needs to be shut down.
because I will support people, not the half baked prettily worded lies organizations will tell us.
At this point I'm choosing to ignore everything Helmut Marko says for my own sanity
Imola '24 š®š¹ā¤ļø
The Chinese GP summary! Ft. Sprint Shenanigans, RB and Alpine suffering, Zhou Guanyu (ššš), Nico being Lewis's number one fan and Max Verstappen doing his thing
Took my sweet time with this one but its done. As always, click to see it better and enjoy! :]
Over the last few weeks rumors have sprung up about Daniel Ricciardo, which is fair enough considering the lineup for the RB and Red Bull seats as well as the expectations of him, but I've done a bit more research to clear things up :)
The New Zealand Herald wrote an article that claimed "Ricciardo has been given an ultimatum" (tldr: if he doesn't perform in Japan and China he will be replaced by Liam Lawson) as well as other things like "Lawson is seen internally as Red Bullās best option to partner world champion Max Verstappen long-term."
The source itself isn't too reputable since the NZ Herald hardly does F1 reporting to begin with, but also because it's clear they would be biased towards the kiwi driver (Lawson).
These claims have also since been disproven, first by F1 journalist Thomas Maher who reported "Sources say there are no plans to replace Daniel Ricciardo, from the Miami GP or later, with Liam Lawson," and also by Speedcafe, who put out an article saying "Trusted sources within Red Bull Racing, which has an overarching contract with Ricciardo, denied the rumours outright when approached by Speedcafe"
Liam's team have denied the allegations too, saying he hasn't been advised by Red Bull of any moves so I don't think it was intentional pressure but rather just bad journalism from the newsletter.
Helmut Marko has implied DR needs to be doing better, claiming both RBs are "too slow" and Ricciardo is "a bit behind,ā but he's also said "Ricciardo needs a safe and confident car. I hope the team can give him that, so he can at least be on par with Yuki," indicating his dissatisfaction is less with the drivers and more with the car.
Daniel Ricciardo will miss FP1 as Red Bull junior driver Ayumu Iwasa takes his car for the practice session, but this is just because F1 teams are required to to bring in a rookie for at least 2 FP sessions a season. Usually teams do this a bit later but RB brought a rookie in earlier last year too, when they were still known as AlphaTauri.
So why not bring in Liam Lawson? Technically he's not a rookie anymore since he's driven in more than 2 GPs. That, and Iwasa is Japanese and it's the Japanese GP. Only makes sense to let him shine a bit in his home circuit.
As of now, it doesn't look like there's any plans to kick him out before his contract is finished. He clearly brings a lot of good PR to the team, as well as advice to improve the car. The team has also been admitting the car needs improvements, and there's much to be done. Ricciardo isn't too far behind Yuki's pace either, however he needs to be actively outperforming him if he wants to guarantee moving past the RB seat or even staying another season, since it's clear there's options Red Bull wants to explore.
LOL not the twitter community notes going after the fake ass misinformation. ššš
Look, I totally get supporting your favourite driver, and I even understand a lot of people actively root against drivers they don't like - that's sport. But my god can we at least stick to using actual facts in these online driver fanbase wars, instead of posts that are either intentionally misleading or just straight up blatant misinformation, like the one here. The only thing accomplished with posts such as this is creating additional and unnecessary friction between driver fanbases online and the F1 team's social media/communications personnel having even more hate/abuse aimed at them online.
soooo ⦠how are we feeling about the daniel news ā¦.
