I'm about halfway through the first chapter of "Heart Made of Glass" sequel and I am just so excited! It's way better than the first chapter of the first fic, imo, and I hope you guys like it!!

Three thoughts: Firstly - really liked your fic, was the first one I got invested enough in to put more than a single comment on Ao3 (and this ask too yay). Secondly: as to alternate perspective ideas, chapter 27 between Vi blacking out and waking up in the Piltover hospital. How did that meeting between Vander and Cassandra go? Thirdly: as to the council/founding lore - why can't both Heimerdinger and House Kiramman be the founders of Piltover? My headcanon is that there were multiple founding families of Piltover, and that's the origins of the council. Heimerdinger gets to be "the founder" because he's the only individual still around, but the Kirammans (and maybe also the Ferroses and the Hoskels, but not the Medardas) were definitely part of founding Piltover too. I'm also now wondering if the hypothetical divide of "founding councillor / elevated later" fits onto the fic's status quo / revolutionary council divide neatly. Did Cassandra first try to persuade the councillors whose houses were elevated to the council after Piltover's founding?

Here's my headcanon (of my own lore lol):
The main reason is that I wanted Cassandra to have a sense of responsibility to to the city. In the chapter from her point of view, she tells the old sheriff before Grayson: “Sheriff, my ancestors shaped the very cobblestones that laid the foundations of this city,” she stated in a tone that brooked no argument. “If I wish to traverse a single one of them, then I shall, no matter how unsensible it may seem to you. Am I understood?” TL;DR: I like the gravity of the Kiramman's being the original founders.
Now, how the elevating of councilors works:
The whole city was once Zaun, the last bastion of the Valoran Empire, which I imagine that the Valoran empire set up the council there to run the city while they expanded their empire. So when the empire fell, Zaun was just left with the council and went on business as usual. Their main areas of government, law enforcement, etc., were located where the present day Zaun is now. It just kind of existed like any other city in the world until one day, the trade merchant family, the Hoskels, proposed the creation of the Sun Gates, which is a massive canal. They created the River Pilt and built up the artificing, trade, and science centers for the Sun Gates on the northside of the river that would become Piltover.
Once Hoskel's family set off the bombs that led the the creation of the fissures and sunk half of the south side of Zaun into them, those on that council were destroyed along with it. So a new one had to be formed and, due to the destruction of the south side, the new one was built on the north side. Because the surviving governing families (think of them like distant relations of the original council in Zaun who worked on the Sun Gates) were related to the original councilors, nothing actually changed in terms of what family ruled, but now you have a bunch of people who never would have been in powerful positions or receiving a lot of wealth suddenly getting it, fueling the greed that led to them not providing aid to the destroyed part of the city. Not a great foundation for government immediately following a devastating disaster. Now, families come and go, some die out, some leave, some are exiled, etc. So some families have changed, such as Shoola's being 600 years on the council as opposed to Cassandra's being on it for 800 years.
I will say, part of my clean up throughout this fic will be fixing up the lore a bit. Making it up as you go along, especially for a fic as long as this one, will lead to discrepancies. I'll do what I can, but for the most part, the important parts are what I want them to be and will be unchanged: the Kirammans are the ones who built Zaun/Piltover and are the oldest family on the council, the Hoskels accidentally sent half of the city into the fissures--which would turn into the Undercity--and ever since The Sinking, no one from what was the south side of Zaun has served on the council.
Lastly, because its been so long that these family's have been on the council, there isn't much weight between who was elevated and who wasn't, except perhaps Cassandra's and that was mainly due to the fact that she had the most money because of how old her family is (that's changed, however, because Mel is now the richest person in Piltover). The reason Heimerdinger is the leader of the council now is because he is the longest serving councilor and his wisdom, despite its inconsistency at times, still does serve them well in other matters.

Note: this is for things Vi knew were going on, but never got a chance to listen/overhear what was said. No deleted scenes or anything like that. Maybe once the sequel is finished I can do something like that.

So the plan is to go through the first fic's chapters and clean some things up. Get rid of some lines that don't make sense with where the story ended up going or taking out things I never actually addressed--none of which will change the plot or characters.
Then I am going to flesh out the sequel a little bit. Make sure I have the first few chapters planned out before writing the first one (and by fleshed out, I really just mean a sentence or two summarizing what I want to be done in that chapter) and write down the main goals of our antagonists. But I'm going to continue to write the main plot on the fly, as I did with Heart Made of Glass, since that really worked out for me for the first fic. Fingers crossed it works on this one, too!
Hopefully, this will only take a week max and then a few days to write the first chapter. I already have a very clear idea of what the first chapter of the sequel will look like, so it shouldn't take long once I actually get started on it.
RAHHH i don’t want to finish Heart Made of Glass,, but in the best way possible🥺 coming across this fic has been like a blessing, it’s got all of the cute interactions and worldbuilding i didn’t know i needed. usually i don’t commit to unfinished fics right away, but your hard work deserves more than just a kudos and a praise. it’s also been the most invested i’ve been in a fic, always reading the new chapter the second i get the notification and literally going out of my way to recommend this fic to others when i can 🤭🤭

Vi walked through the City of Progress, the cool Piltovan breeze blowing gently through her hair. It was a beautiful, late summer night as the light of the moon glinted off of the gold and white marble stone that decorated the arched buildings of Piltover. She passed several Enforcers, but as she caught the eye of a few of them, they gave her a respectful bow of their head and carried on with their patrols. Still not used to that, Vi thought as she approached a familiar area. She shook off the old, ever-burning embers of anger at seeing those uniforms. Even after a year of getting used to the idea that she was now part of the upper echelons of Piltover, she doesn’t think she’ll ever truly get over the resentment she held for its law enforcement officers. Especially after tonight, came a bitter thought.

Whether you commented, left a kudos or even just read it and liked it, I am so thankful for you all and that so many people seemed to enjoy it. It's crazy to me that what started as just a funny little joke I thought of about Cassandra chastising Vi for checking out her daughter when Vi was supposed to be working turned into this. I never imagined I would actually ever finish a fic of this magnitude before. It's been so fun and you are all just the best.

Ch. 30: Quid Pro Quo “Heart Made of Glass, My Mind of Stone” CaitVi FanFic
“How does this woman continue to outmaneuver us?” Caitlyn demanded furiously. “We are public figures, Caitlyn, and are thus knowable,” Mel stated evenly, “whereas she’s been able to operate from the shadows for years, longer than our alliance has been around.” Caitlyn ground her teeth together, relaxing infinitesimally when Vi put a hand on her thigh. “We’ll figure something out, Cupcake,” Vi assured her as soothingly as she could. Caitlyn took a slow, calming breath and leaned back in her chair, her eyes distant. Vi wanted to ask what she was thinking, but knew this wasn’t the time. “What now?” she posed to the group.
The Chembarons retaliate against the alliance’s bold move. Vi and Caitlyn are made an unexpected offer.
Ch. 29: I So Swear "Heart Made of Glass, My Mind of Stone" CaitVi Fic
Vi, who felt like they had done nothing but wait around for everyone to do their part, suddenly felt like everything they had been planning for was happening so quickly she could hardly keep up. Jayce’s breakthrough, Hira Tano flipping on Hoskel, and now Grayson’s operation at the Sun Gates went off without a hitch. “Twenty people arrested, three years of Hoskel’s manifest records all with the same coded language on them, Hira’s testimony, and Heimerdinger has been given everything,” Cassandra said the evening after the operation. Emir had broken out a bottle of champagne as Cassandra called for a toast with everyone in the alliance as well as Jayce and Tobias. “All we are waiting on now is word from him to convene an emergency council meeting to determine what is to be done with Hoskel, but the laws are quite clear. The scope of Hoskel’s crimes are so vast that it can only end with the call for his removal as councilor, an immediate banishment, and his family will be banned from serving on the council in perpetuity. None of this would be possible without every single person in this room. No matter the outcome, I am incredibly proud of all of you.”

Everything begins to fall into place for the alliance and the City of Progress does something it hasn’t ever done before.
"Heart of Glass, My Mind of Stone" Sequel Plans
Okay, as we're getting closer to the end of "Heart Made of Glass, My Mind of Stone" fic, I want to kind of lay out what I want to happen, schedule/planning out wise.
First, I am going to go through all of "Heart of Glass" and clean some things up. There are, albeit minor, bits that I wrote but never did anything with that I will remove from the fic or alter (in the first few chapters, Caitlyn is mentioned/referred to attending a school in Piltover that I never did anything with, for example). None of these will affect the plot or change the characters in any ways, but this is one of the side effects of making up the story and posting it as you go that I do want to address.
I am still going to release a kind "deleted scenes" or "alternative perspectives" scenes chapter, but note that it won't be very long. Not sure if I'll attach it to "Heart of Glass" after the epilogue or make it its own stand alone that I have be apart of the "I Will Give You My Rebel Heart" series. It would be one chapter and I would be clear on what the contents of each scene will be and the structure of the chapter will be like little vignettes with their own sections. I plan on doing this after the fic is finished and after I clean it up.
As of right now, I don't know when the sequel will be written. I might take a short break if I feel like it after "Heart of Glass" is finished or I just might continue since I've been on this incredible stretch of time being so inspired. I've been planning some of the sequel out as I've been wrapping up "Heart of Glass," but it's not fully fleshed out by any means. While I don't plan on knowing how it ends before the first chapter is released, I do still want to have some goals/plot points to hit in mind.

“We haven’t had much privacy to talk about what happened,” Caitlyn whispered in the dark. She was right. At the hospital, with both of their families and medical personnel, they were rarely alone. Vi swallowed and nuzzled close into Caitlyn’s hair. “Are you ready to talk about it?” There was a long silence, so long that Vi wondered if Caitlyn had fallen asleep. “No,” Caitlyn finally whispered. Vi hugged her closer and buried her face in Caitlyn’s neck, the scent of pansies calming the fear that hadn’t truly left her since that night in the Wharf. “When we are ready, can we promise we’ll come to each other first. No holding back?” Vi pleaded, her voice shaking with emotion. Caitlyn brought Vi’s hand that held hers up to her lips, where she kissed every knuckle. Vi felt her own lower lip tremble. “I promise.”

You’re covered in blood!” he exclaimed in horror. “I think I—I think I hit—” Vi stuttered, the room spinning more and more and her vision became spotted. The dull throbbing in the back of her head she had been ignoring for the last thirty minutes began to suddenly get worse. She felt Vander’s fingers run through her hair and pulled them back, crimson staining his hand. “I think I hit my head,” she muttered. Her eyes rolled back and her world turned black.

Caitlyn looked as if she was debating saying what she was thinking as she opened and closed her mouth a few times. “Of all the places you could have broken into, I’m really glad it was Jayce’s,” she finally said.

I started rereading today and saw the aside of Cassandra being jealous of the chemtech battle bots. I’m curious, do you have any plans of that get her, powder, and Jayce in the same room together? I foresee the ultimate chembot if so.
I don’t have any plans for it but I’m not ruling it out completely. If I don’t do it in this one, there’s a chance I will in the sequel. It would be pretty epic if they built a bot together though. They’d destroy everyone 🤣 so glad you’re rereading it 🥹

“I’m assuming we can trust that our teenage spies will be able to keep their hands to themselves and remain focused on the objective?” Mel asked with a hint of doubt in her tone. Vi and Caitlyn glared at the woman. “Would you like to come with us to be our chaperone? Or is that too far away from the safety of your ivory tower?” Vi asked with a sneer. “It is hardly an outlandish question,” Mel defended. “We’ve all been teenagers in love before and we cannot take any chances that this assignment will be compromised because of hormones.” Vi felt her ears go hot at the woman suggesting they were in love, but pushed aside her embarrassment. “Worry about the things you can control, Councilor Medarda, and we’ll do the same,” Caitlyn said, her voice borderline condescending.

“And how is the councilor?” Vi asked carefully. “Well, currently, she is sleeping off the excessive amount of brandy she consumed last night,” he said with a sad smile. “However, when she wakes up, I’m sure she’ll be quite distraught. Even though she knew this was coming, I don’t believe that prepared her for how devastating this fight with our daughter would be.” “It was for Caitlyn, too,” Vi admitted quietly. She rubbed at her forehead and sighed, a sense of despair creeping up. Tobias was contemplatively quiet as he dished up two bowls of soup and brought them over to the island. He sat down on the stool next to her. “My wife and daughter are very similar,” he stated, “and that includes how they deal with their anger. They can be cruel, cutting, and even vengeful, if their wrath is powerful enough. However, despite what they both may feel or worry about right now, Caitlyn is incapable of truly hating her mother. Right now, in her anger, I’m sure she thinks she does. But she is so angry partially because she loves her mother so much. They have a bond that even I do not fully understand and I honestly believe that, one day, Caitlyn will forgive Cassandra. It will be hard work, but the Kiramman women are nothing if not resilient.”

Hmmm, honestly if we’re talking about thematically, the band Rage Against the Machine is one of the first ones to come to mind as well as Fever 333 (this one sang Hellfire in season 2). I listened quite a bit of EDM (Eliminate, Riot Ten, Excision and Wooli) when writing scenes for Zaun. When writing for Piltover ones (like the Gala chapter), I listened to some Victoria Era/Steampunk inspired music on YouTube EpicMusicChannel. Non-thematically, I’ll just throw on some video game soundtrack radio (I have YouTube music) while I write.
Ch. 23: Mothers and Daughters "Heart Made of Glass, My Mind of Stone" CaitVi Fic
Vi watched the two Kiramman women stare at each other for what felt like an eternity. Caitlyn had once mentioned before that while she and Cassandra are very close, their shared stubbornness can lead to more frequent arguments than Caitlyn and her father have. Vi did not want a front row seat to this. She backed away towards the door. “I’ll give you some privacy. See you tom—” “Stay,” Caitlyn commanded, her eyes never leaving Cassandra’s. “I don’t want her to have the chance to spin this conversation to you in any way that benefits her. I want to hear what she has to say to justify herself in front of you.” Vi didn’t need to look at Cassandra to know that the councilor would tell her to listen to Caitlyn. This is what they’ve been waiting for and they needed to see how far Caitlyn would go for this.

It's been exactly one month since I first posted it, not realizing where the story was going, and it's been an extremely fulfilling creative experience. The fact that it's miles above my most well received story, especially given that I haven't written in years, is the cherry on top.
As a treat, I'll announce here and maybe soon in the notes area of the fic, but Heart Made of Glass is getting a sequel! I already know the general plot and the opening scene.
There's still a good bit left of story for Heart Made of Glass, but we're definitely in the later half of it.

Ch. 22: Clean Slate "Heart Made of Glass, My Mind of Stone" CaitVi Fic (for real this time)
“I have a message and a warning,” Vi eventually said, her voice even and strong. It helped that she actually believed in what she was about to say. Vander shifted his body and expression at his daughter’s tone. Vi blinked and suddenly before her was not her father, but the Hound of the Underground. She refused to let that intimidate her. “Sounds serious,” he said, pulling out his pipe and lighting it. Vi met his gaze, unwavering. “Blisters and bedrock serious.” Vander stared at Vi for several moments. Blisters and bedrock. A phrase her mother and Vander would say to each other that went back to their mining days. They used it only when what they were discussing was as serious as it could possibly be. It was a plea for trust, a cry for understanding, and warning to be honest. It was never, ever meant to be used lightly, then or now. To do so would break Vi and Vander’s trust in each other and stain their shared memories of her mother and his best friend.

Caitlyn continued to ask Vi questions about the wildlife in Zaun as they walked, which led to Caitlyn needing to stop walking because she was laughing so hard at Vi’s recount of a time she once got stuck in a sewer drain after being chased by a massive, deformed gutter rat that chased her from a scrapyard when she was thirteen, fighting it off with nothing more than a dented ladle she had managed to grab from the scrap heap. “Glad you find my extremely traumatic villain origin story so amusing, Cupcake,” Vi sarcastically stated. “I’ll have you know that gutter rats haunt me every waking moment. I jump every time I hear a squeak from a darkened alley.” That just made Caitlyn double over more as she cackled. Vi couldn’t help but think how beautiful she looked at that moment as she felt something shift inside of her again.

Caitlyn didn’t notice, was unbothered, or ignored Vi tensing at their proximity. “When is Powder and Ekko’s match?” Vi swallowed and looked straight ahead as she used the match as a reason to not look at Caitlyn. “I’m, uh—I’m not sure,” she replied. “They are the reigning champions so they may be the last ones to play.” Caitlyn hummed and went back to watching robots rip each other to shreds. Vi sat and tried her best to not breathe through her nose. Or notice every time Caitlyn shifted to clap, cheer, or laugh and brush their shoulders together. But Vi couldn’t help but allow herself to indulge a look (just one look, she told herself) when Caitlyn turned to the woman next to her, who was the aunt of one of the kids in the match, to strike up a conversation.
