Check your local laws, if you can take the time off you have no excuse. Plan ahead, make sure your ballots can be mailed if that's an option. Call out sick if you must your job isn't that important I promise you. They don't give any kind of fucks and it's in their best interest if you don't vote.

"so you think supporting genocide is okay if it keeps your country from facing genocide?"

So you think supporting genocide is okay if it means keeping another country from facing genocide?

This isn't a sentiment I actually carry, it's an example of how incredibly easily your own stupidity can be flipped around to make the exact same point in the opposite direction, it's a wild goose chase of a sentiment that does nothing but keep us fighting with each other instead of focusing on ways to actually fix the problem.

Genocide isn't fucking okay regardless of who is facing it, but being aware of the reality of the situation is what gets us closer to ending it, not abandoning any hope or sense we have to let more fucking genocide happen as some sort of Gotcha to politicians who won't be effected by the slash of millions of people's human rights and safety.

Here is the reality of the situation, we live under a two party system, no third party presidential candidate has won an electoral vote in since 1968 and no third party presidential candidate has won an election At All since the founding of the Republican party in 1854. You are meant to campaign for candidates you want to see in office, months or years before the primaries, for the best chance at getting someone you agree with completely, and NONE of you fucking did that, you did what you always do, and got pissy a few months before the election and started pushing for your candidate way too late. Consider campaigning for their election in 2028, but that's not relevant right now.

Our options right now, are:

Trump, who has promised further aid to Israel, cutting aid to Palestine and Ukraine completely, pulling out of NATO, the criminalization of LGBTQ+ existence, deportation of anyone he deems un-American (this includes natural born citizens in immigrant families, people he doesn't agree with, and more) sending the military to deal with Any protests as violently as they can, raising taxes on the lower and middle class and cutting taxes for the rich, slashing Medicaid, medicare, and social security benefits, cutting our infrastructure budget, and enforcing the death penalty for sex crimes against children which again, he considers drag and trans existence in public a sex crime against children, that's not a good thing. You can look up his statements, agenda 47, and project 2025 yourself, this isn't a joke and none of it is an exaggeration.

Or Harris, who DOES support Israel as a long time US ally, and HAS condemned pro-hamas sentiment protests, but ALSO HAS already attempted to halt bomb shipments to Israel, pushes for larger amounts of Palestinian humanitarian aid, criticizes Netanyahu's ignoring of international law, stands for the recognition of Palestine as a state, helped draft a permanent ceasefire proposal which she continues to push at Netanyahu, boycotted Netanyahu's congressional address, altered title IX and title X to include protections against discrimination for gender identity, wants to pass bills to cap rent and raise taxes on wealthy real estate conglomerates, refused to seek the death penalty for any crimes she held court over as a prosecutor, created an anti-human-trafficking task force with a focus on specifically sex crimes under that umbrella, wants the repeal of roe v. wade undone and it codified, wants term limits added to currently unlimited positions, mainly the supreme court, (I'll add here that the next president will potentially get to place 2 supreme court judge replacements,) helped alter labor laws to better fight union busting tactics, and was a part of getting the infrastructure act thats currently starting to plan for America's first high speed rail system in place. Many of these things happened under the Biden administration, of which she's a key player as vice president, but unsurprisingly you don't hear about them from media outlets that make their money on outrage rather than hope.

By all accounts and purposes, Harris is a god damn saint in comparison to Trump. She's not perfect and her bullshit with supporting Israel is infuriating, but it's not the only thing you should be focused on, and you need to keep in mind that voting isn't your main source of resistance, it's what AMPLIFIES YOUR OTHER ACTIONS OF RESISTANCE. If you don't vote, you're screaming wildly into the wind for change, if you vote, your standing right in front of the candidate with a megaphone, screaming directly in their face, got it???

You want change? You need to actually elect the person who advocates for any of that change, not throw a fucking fit that she's not advocating for all of it right now, and let the mother fucker advocating for literally none of it win. Y'all are going to get us killed and get nothing done in the process.

Anyone Who Says That Both Parties Are The Same Or That The Current Administration Is Already Doing This,

Anyone who says that both parties are the same or that the current administration is already doing this, is someone whose opinion you shouldn’t take seriously because they are not engaging with reality. The US has problems but it is not an authoritarian police state and, while it suffers under capitalist greed, it can be fixed if we all engage with the system in a good faith way. The change we want is happening, just because it’s not happening as fast as some people want doesn’t mean we should burn it all to the ground.

I don't believe that the Little Mermaid should be black, or asian, or Mexican.

She shouldn't even be white.

Or human.

Instead I vote Alice to be the new Little Mermaid.

Who is Alice you might ask? Alice is my dog

Can she sing? No

Can she act? No

Can she even obey simple commands? Not without heavy bribery.

Even with not being able to do any of that, I still believe she would make the best Little Mermaid there ever was.

She wanted the part so bad that she even went as a mermaid this year for Halloween.

Vote Alice for Little Mermaid 2023 to help her achieve her dreams.

I Don't Believe That The Little Mermaid Should Be Black, Or Asian, Or Mexican.

This is why it is important to vote your entire ballot in every election! Your state governor and legislature make a big difference in your life. Even your town's mayor and city council (or local equivalent), your school board and library board, your local and state referendums -- they all matter.

I get that sometimes it feels like you aren't making an impact. My district has elected some truly appalling people. However, the more local the election, the more difference a single vote makes, and even in a presidential election, a small number of votes can make a big difference.

It's not just Walz: Minnesota Democrats are an inspiration. They won a one-seat majority and *got to work*. I have this paragraph saved on my desktop & I periodically go back & read it just for pleasure. pic.twitter.com/fksS6KL0Sq

Also, Vote Your Whole Ballot in every election! The president has a huge impact on the country, but so does Congress. Your senators and representatives can support or block a president and influence the long-term effects of the president's actions. And as @neolithicsheep shows, your governor and state legislature can make a big difference on your life.

Your city's mayor, council, and other administrators have a narrower impact, but it can literally hit you where you live. Even school and library boards affect what children in your community are taught and whether books are banned. They are either elected or appointed by the mayor and/or city council.

Learn the dog whistles that hide people's agendas. Look at who is sharing advertising space. Check out the groups that support different candidates. And vote like your life depends on it, because it does for many of us.

Vote to queer the narrative. Vote out of spite. Vote like your life depends on it, because that's true for some of us.

Hey, everyone! You want to pull the ultimate prank against the Republican party? I mean this would be EPIC!

On November 5, 2024, all 50 million US citizens between 18 and 30 need to take to the streets and demonstrate against the erosion of civil rights for women, BIPOC, disabled, LBGTIAA+, and transgendered people. Take to the streets...and march right down to your polling station and vote! (Or, you know, early vote.)

This would be the flash mob to beat all flash mobs. The Republicans would never see you coming, because their whole strategy depends on keeping you depressed and disengaged.

Don't like the direction the Democrats are going? Take a page out of the Tea Party's book--they changed the direction of the Republican party by voting for it, and now they own it. Vote Democrat and nudge it leftward this election--then keep nudging it until you can take the wheel. Because the alternative is a hard right turn by the Republicans.

Not only would this be a lifesaver for countless people who are not "White male Christian Conservative Americans", it would also be funny as hell. Want to see Trump have a meltdown on international television? Want to see pollsters and political pundits say "What the fuck?!" Want to see the newspapers suddenly flock to gay nightclubs and college campuses to interview "average voters" instead of rural diners?

If you don’t think this makes a difference, look at what the Minnesota legislature accomplished so far this year:

Set up free breakfast and lunch for all K-12 students

Implemented automatic voter registration and a number of other reforms to increase voter access

Made abortion access and reproductive care a fundamental right

Provided up to 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave

Banned conversion therapy and made Minnesota a safe state for trans people

Indexed school funding to inflation

And much, much more

Our cities, our states, our country -- they can do this, too!  The Minnesota legislature isn’t filled with perfect people, but it has enough people who are willing to work together to get things accomplished.

Vote for people who will make progress.  If you don’t have that option, vote for people who won’t push us farther back!

We are not going to let that fuckwad DeSantis gain a foothold in the 2024 election.

You are going to fucking vote for Joe Biden, and you are going to give us a fucking chance to save our country from fascism, and you aren't going to fucking complain about it, because there is literally no other choice.

We will not let another election be a close call. Are you listening?

Vote for Biden. Vote for whatever Democrat is most popular in your local elections. Our system sucks, but this is what we're working with. Just fucking vote.

If you live in the United States, can legally vote, and have not already done so, please vote on November 8, 2022.  Specifically, vote for people who are not fascists, who will support everyone’s bodily autonomy, and who believe that LGBTQ+ people deserve rights.

If you need voting information and can’t find it yourself, call or email your local library.  They will probably have everything handy (because you are almost certainly not the only person with questions), but they will find it for you if necessary!  The only thing they won’t tell you is whom to vote for.

Some states will allow you to register at the polls if you are not already registered.  Even if you can’t register for this election, do it now so you’re ready for the next one.

Reminder: tomorrow’s Election Day. If you haven’t voted, take a moment to look up the voting centers near you and hours of operation

Some states mandate time off to allow employees to vote. Some don’t. If your state does, be firm in your right to take time to vote if you cannot any other time

Don’t let those self-righteous old fascist fucks get comfortable. Even if you think there’s no chance, make ‘em sweat

You have the right to vote safely!  If you have been avoiding registering to vote in the US due to domestic violence or threat of violence, please check out the resources for your state.  In Wisconsin, this includes threats to someone in your household, as well as yourself and your child/ward.

Vote in every election, for every position!  Some really horrible racist and anti-LGBTQ+ groups are getting power on school boards, library boards, city councils, and other local legislative bodies.  One of the reasons they can do it is because it doesn’t take many votes to get them in office.  Once they’re in, they can start supporting book bans, curriculum changes, anti-trans measures, and more.

Finding out who you want to vote for takes time, and it can be hard at the local level, but it’s incredibly important.  If you can, register to vote by mail so that you have more time to look at your ballot and research the candidates.  If not, try to find ballot information online or see if your local paper runs any information about the candidates.  If you need help, ask at your local library!  (You don’t have to tell them how you plan to vote, just ask for help finding out who is on the ballot.)

Collect up the junk mail that candidates send out.  Some of them share mailers, so figuring out one of them will give you an idea on the others.  Contact organizations that you approve of and find out who they support.  If you’re really desperate, contact organizations that you don’t approve of and find out who they support, so you know who to vote against.

Start learning the dog whistles and warning signs.  “Parental rights” is starting to mean “the right to say what other people’s kids can read and learn.”  Moms for Liberty wants the liberty to deny the existence of LGBTQ+ people.

It’s “just one more vote” the same way a tough journey is “just one more step.”

Also, remember to vote your whole ballot and to vote in non-presidential elections.  The Senate is at least as responsible for two of the last three conservative Supreme Court Justices as Trump.

I Am Begging You To Fucking Vote. On November 3rd, Early, And In All Your Local Elections To Come.

I am begging you to fucking vote. On November 3rd, early, and in all your local elections to come.

Tell your senators to follow the precedent Mitch McConnell set in 2016 and wait until after the inauguration to select a new Supreme Court Justice.

Vote.  Vote your entire ballot.  Vote to protect yourself, your family and friends, your community, and your country.  Yes, it’s that important.

People need to fully understand what RGB’s death means. It’s not just a vacancy on the supreme court that could be potentially filled by a conservative Justice - that’s an awful thought, but that’s not the main problem.

The problem, is that this is EXACTLY the opportunity Republicans have been looking for for decades. If a conservative nominee is pushed through before the election, and I’m hoping it won’t but if it does, that will lead to a Republican majority in the Supreme Court. And you can bet your life, literally, that they will work to roll back every progressive law they can.

The concept of a separation of church and state is already a joke in this country, but it will get so much worse.

But more than that? Even if a nominee isn’t pushed through…

The vacancy RGB left behind will motivate Republicans to come out to vote in droves.

THAT is what everyone needs to understand. This is a once in a life time opportunity for the Republicans. You think you don’t want to vote for Biden because he’s not exactly who you want? Because he’s not progressive enough or liberal enough?

What about all the Republicans who may not support Trump, but want a Republican majority on the Supreme Court? The ones who may not like him, but would be willing to deal with him for four more years if it means controlling the Supreme Court for the next 40?

It’s awful and unfortunate that RGB died so close to the election. Throughout her life she worked tirelessly to fight for equality. Don’t let her life be in vain.

Now more than ever, it’s important to vote. Everyone. Down the entire ballot.

I’m lucky enough to live in California, a historically Blue state. But those of my followers who live in Red states, you especially need to call your representatives in the Senate and tell them to postpone any nomination. Cite Mitch McConnell’s own actions in 2016. Anything you can do to add pressure. Remind them who they really work for: you, their constituents.

We cannot give up the fight. We can’t. Your vote matters. If it didn’t, why would the GOP be trying so hard to take it away? Make sure you’re registered. If you want to mail in your ballot then drop it off at designated polling stations instead of the post office to ensure it’s counted in time.

I don’t have many followers so I don’t know who will see this, but please, reblog this. Spread the information. RBG’s death will galvanize Republicans out to vote en masse. We can’t afford to be apathetic or disenfranchised. We can make a difference, but not if we don’t bother to try.

Seriously, if you live in the US, make a plan NOW so that you are ready to vote.

Make sure you are registered to vote.  Many states are “cleaning up” voter rolls, so double-check.

Decide what you are willing to compromise on and what is a deal-breaker for you.  You probably won’t find someone who is a perfect fit, but you can definitely find candidates that are better or worse.

If you aren’t sure whether voting in person will be safe for you by November, find out what you need to do to vote by mail.  Check your state and local requirements for voting by mail or voting early (when it might be less crowded) if you can’t vote by mail.  You may need to request the ballot in advance or send in some form of identification.  Some areas require a witness’ signature on mail-in ballots, which can be hard if you’re are quarantined alone.  Some areas require mail-in ballots to be received or postmarked by a certain date; some have drop-off locations in addition to accepting ballots by mail.  Make a plan NOW so you are ready by November.

While you are voting for (or against) a presidential candidate, remember to look at the rest of your ballot!  Even if you aren’t voting for a presidential candidate, look at the rest of the ballot!  The president has a lot of power, but the senators and representatives can do a lot to support or block the president.  Your state, county, city, and other local governments can also have a big impact on your life.  Most of their decisions will have an immediate effect on you.  Plus, in many cases, this is where presidents and congress-critters get started.  If you don’t like the choices at the top level, start changing the people closer to you.

Every vote counts!  Yes, even at the presidential level.  However, the farther down the ballot you go, the more your vote is going to count.  This applies even more on local primaries and elections that don’t affect national positions.  The pool of voters is smaller in local elections, and many people who can vote won’t bother.  Take a little time to find out as much as you can about your local candidates, and vote for the ones who support most of your values.

It’s easier to take time to check out candidates and issues if you are voting by mail.  However, even if you are voting on election day, you can frequently see what is on the ballot in advance, so you can do your research.  Make sure you understand those awkwardly worded (”Do you support removing the proposition that opposes...?”) questions and convoluted propositions, so that you’re voting for what you really want.

Plan ahead and vote!

Yo Biden just announced an infrastructure devolopment/clean energy/environmental justice plan and it's honesty pretty fucking amazing and much more ambitious than I ever would have expected from him, goddamn. He's trying to Eisenhower/New Deal our way out of the economic collapse.

Some notable points addressed by this plan:

Expanding American railway systems

Fixing the crumbling roads, bridges, dams, etc. that haven't been kept up

Capping abandoned oil wells

Undoing Trump's financial bailout policies for unclean energy companies

Reinvesting in American-made automotive companies

Getting America to 100% clean energy by 2035

Fixing air, water, and ground pollution issues that disproportionately affect poc

Getting justice for victims of environmental racism

Reinstating a bunch of environmental and medical jobs Trump had cut

Getting the US back on the Paris Agreement/Climate Accord

The one and only time I used a voting machine (I don’t remember what brand), it didn’t actually display the votes it registered so that I could confirm them.  I think the instructions said that you should be able to see your vote, but that area was blank.  Ever since then, I’ve stuck with the paper forms -- at least that way I know that there was a physical record of my vote at some point, and I can confirm that the right spots are marked before I submit the ballot.

Hey There US Friends! If You’re Voting Using These Machines (Hart ESlate) Or Similar Ones Right Now

Hey there US friends! If you’re voting using these machines (Hart eSlate) or similar ones right now or in the near future, make sure that the machine has NOT changed your ballot before casting it, ‘k? It’s apparently an already known problem, and has been for years, but has never been fixed.

If you’re in Wisconsin, go to https://myvote.wi.gov/ to find out if you’re registered, make sure you know where to vote, and see the ballot in advance so you can decide who/what you’re voting for before you go to the polls.  Go to https://www.bringitwisconsin.com/ for information about the required ID to vote. Whether you approve of the requirement or not, make sure you have what you need to vote!

You can also request an absentee ballot if you don’t know whether you will have time or spoons to vote on November 6.  “Under Wisconsin law, voters do not need a reason or excuse, such as being out of town on Election Day, to vote absentee.  Any voter who prefers to vote by absentee ballot may request one.” (https://elections.wi.gov/voters/absentee)  Even if Tuesdays are your day off and you want to spend them at home in your pajamas, you can get an absentee ballot and vote!
