TLDW; Scientists are seeing a correlation between severe viral infections and development of neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs). Being vaccinated for the flu, shingles, and pneumonia appears to reduce the risk of developing Alzheimers and Parkinsons. We may get confirmation of severe infections causing NDDs in 10 to 15 years when we see the long term effects of COVID.

BTW, ironically the video above came out the same day that news hit that the meeting of the US board of advisers that decides on next winter's flu vaccine has been cancelled. So who knows if we'll have a vaccine for the flu in the US this fall. I'm left wondering how much suffering and death needs to occur before awareness grows that RFK Jr is a vile POS who is telling lies about his role in the Samoa measles outbreak of 2019 that killed 80 people most of whom were children.

Incredibly important, and incredibly informative. This pandemic is not over, it’s just been brushed under the rug.

Little Y shapes labeled “antibody” fly at the SARS-COV-2 virus and connect with the spikes on the ball. Cell receptors at the bottom seem to be being kept at bay by this extra bit of mass.

A drawing of overlapping branch shapes takes over the top of the page, each branch getting narrower and narrower until it gets to something like “leaves”. A circle around that “leafy” area points to a zoomed in version at the bottom of the page. We see there that the “leaves” were actually more akin to bunches of grapes at the ends of the branches.

It comes over a honeycomb-like shape of different cells with shadows of nuclei inside of them. And at the cut edge, two arrows explain a narrow couple of layers between the cells and the air. This large body of text starts off the page: “Our body launches into defensive action, but variants excel at turning our IMMUNE CELLS against themselves in an escalating CYTOKINE STORM. e28 Infected, dying cells release CYTOKINES (chemical signals) that summon immune cells...which get attacked by viruses, so they summon even MORE immune cells...! e29 The inflamed alveoli try to flush the invaders out with fluids, but that results in a suffocating state called PNEUMONIA. The swollen, pus-filled alveolar sacs struggle to continue exchanging O-CO through their damaged walls. Without treatment, this can end in death.”
Below, a diagram shows all of this happening. We see the inside of an alveolar sac that is being filled with “too much fluid!” as one bubble declares. And inside of the fluid, many little balls are coming up to one of the larger shapes at the wall of the sac, labeled “SARS-COV-2 infecting cells”. A few big blobby orbs are labeled “Immune cells”, and the little speckles that are flying away from one are labeled “Cytokines”. The one sending the cytokines looks unusual, suggesting infection, and another receiving the cytokines is attacking one of the cells on the cell wall. On the periphery of the wall where the semi-porous membrane was on the previous page, it’s much thicker, and text says “membrane’s getting too porous”. Meanwhile, overactive platelets needlessly gather blood cells in micro-clots. These trigger heart attacks, strokes, as well as many other Long COVID symptoms throughout the body. e58”
Another cartoony illustration of cells: An angry t-cell sending out chemical signals and saying, “I KNOW there’s a virus around here somewhere!” Goofy smiling platelets bundle up blood cells with strings of goop, while a neutrophil declares “I’m helping!” and extends its spindly NETs to the clot and nearby cells, which wither in distress.

“STOPPING THE SPREAD” it says at the top of the page, followed in smaller letters by “So obviously we want to stop getting sick, but how? We can’t end pandemics through individual action alone.” And then bigger for emphasis it says “So we work together! Billows of air carrying countless tiny particles flank those words, and coalesce at the front of a bunch of thing slices of Swiss cheese, each with holes in different places. Each slice is labeled a different thing, one is “limiting exposure”, another “well-fitting respirator masks”, “good air, filtration”, “fast, accurate testing”, “quarantining after exposure”, and “vaccines & boosters”. Each slice blocks more and more of the particles, until the end of the slices where a baby sits in clear air and says “I love not having COVID!”
Text below explains: “Just like how each Swiss cheese slice has holes, no single protection method against SARS-CoV-2 works 100% perfectly. So we stack together methods until we’ve covered up all the holes, and maximized protection!”

If you look at the official numbers, it seems like things have died down, and if you look at wastewater it seems like things have gotten worse. Sections of time are labeled with quote marks “DURING THE PANDEMIC” covering just until a little after the two numbers start to wildly diverge, and “POST-PANDEMIC” where the wastewater shows that we are almost always above the peaks of the early years. “ Wastewater trackers test sewage at processing plants for viral debris (including H5N1, influenza, etc). They’re far more accurate than government or corporate numbers. “Official” trackers for COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are almost always SIGNIFICANTLY UNDERCOUNTED.

Wearing any type of face covering, even if it’s just a bandana, is vitally important to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. Please wear a mask. I would highly recommend reading this paper on the efficiency and potential effectiveness of cloth masks. I’ve copied the conclusion down below, but I urge you to read the article for yourself; please never accept something just because you saw it in a tumblr post (or any social media post).

Conclusion of the article:

“In conclusion, we have measured the filtration efficiencies of various commonly available fabrics for use as cloth masks in filtering particles in the significant (for aerosol-based virus transmission) size range of ∼10 nm to ∼6 μm and have presented filtration efficiency data as a function of aerosol particle size. We find that cotton, natural silk, and chiffon can provide good protection, typically above 50% in the entire 10 nm to 6.0 μm range, provided they have a tight weave. Higher threads per inch cotton with tighter weaves resulted in better filtration efficiencies. For instance, a 600 TPI cotton sheet can provide average filtration efficiencies of 79 ± 23% (in the 10 nm to 300 nm range) and 98.4 ± 0.2% (in the 300 nm to 6 μm range). A cotton quilt with batting provides 96 ± 2% (10 nm to 300 nm) and 96.1 ± 0.3% (300 nm to 6 μm). Likely the highly tangled fibrous nature of the batting aids in the superior performance at small particle sizes. Materials such as silk and chiffon are particularly effective (considering their sheerness) at excluding particles in the nanoscale regime (<∼100 nm), likely due to electrostatic effects that result in charge transfer with nanoscale aerosol particles. A four-layer silk (used, for instance, as a scarf) was surprisingly effective with an average efficiency of >85% across the 10 nm −6 μm particle size range. As a result, we found that hybrid combinations of cloths such as high threads-per-inch cotton along with silk, chiffon, or flannel can provide broad filtration coverage across both the nanoscale (<300 nm) and micron scale (300 nm to 6 μm) range, likely due to the combined effects of electrostatic and physical filtering. Finally, it is important to note that openings and gaps (such as those between the mask edge and the facial contours) can degrade the performance. Our findings indicate that leakages around the mask area can degrade efficiencies by ∼50% or more, pointing out the importance of “fit”. Opportunities for future studies include cloth mask design for better “fit” and the role of factors such as humidity (arising from exhalation) and the role of repeated use and washing of cloth masks. In summary, we find that the use of cloth masks can potentially provide significant protection against the transmission of particles in the aerosol size range.”

Of course, a simple cloth mask is nowhere near as effective as a respiratory mask such as N95 masks, and neither even touches the effectiveness of a full-body protective suit, but (a) not everyone has access to a fully-body protective suit or even to an N95 mask and (b) any face covering is better than no face covering. So if all you have to cover your face is a bandana, please cover your face with a bandana. If you have access to higher-quality cloth masks, utilize higher-quality cloth masks. If you have access to N95 masks, wear an N95 mask. Do as much as you can to keep the virus from spreading.

(Also please note the significantly higher risk if your mask does not fit; obviously this risk would be higher with bandanas, which are not typically made to fit snugly to the contours of one’s face. Still, bandanas are better than nothing.)

Hi, @wokeurajoke-- that’s an interesting contribution to a post that was originally about schools reopening, although I’m sure you have your reasons. Your claim is correct on two points:

(1) You are correct in stating Democratic districts (not states) have higher death counts due to COVID-19. However, the large majority of these deaths (nearly a quarter of all COVID-related deaths in the US) occurred in just 12 Democratic congressional districts, all located in New York City. One can see how districts in NYC, a densely populated urban area, would have a higher death count than more rural districts.

In addition, while the initial surge of deaths due to COVID-19 was tragically large in Democratic congressional districts, and the death count is still larger in those urban districts than in Republican districts, the decline of deaths in Democratic congressional districts has “outpaced the national average” while Republican districts have seen significantly less decline, according to a Pew Research Center study published near the end of May.
