The worst is when you want to write, know what to work on, have time to write, and are too depressed to move. That’s the hell I’m burning in.
I love the notes I gave myself during my first draft. I think one of my favorites is: we need to standardize pet names.
When you’re ablaze with inspiration and can’t pick a creative hobby to focus on.
I hate to break it to you, but they were right. You really do just have to finish that first draft. It can be a hot mess, but you can’t clean up a room that doesn’t exist
Writers, I need your opinions:
My story is like focused on two characters, and I have this scene where we switch between their perspectives. They are texting each other throughout an evening essentially, and we switch each time someone reads a text.
I don’t know if I should keep it or not. I love it, but I don’t know if it’s confusing or not. The overlapping scenes are very important for the development of both plot and story.
Also, I do have a beta reader but I lowkey have a crush on them so I’m too embarrassed to send the fic to them until I’ve done a couple rounds of self edits, and I don’t wanna get too far in just to realize it doesn’t work
Nothing like a halfway decent incomplete fanfic to crawl into my brain and lay eggs. At some point between now and when I die, I will be writing some sort of paranormal situation, forever peeved that I didn’t come up with this world building first and can’t just rip it off because morals.
Me: I wish I could spend all my free time writing
Also me: has other hobbies that I take more seriously for some reason so I can’t just write all day because I made commitments
You ever reach that point when you wonder if anyone will even want to read your story? Because that’s where I’m at. Like I’m in too deep to drop it, but I’m also questioning how insane I was when I started it.
I think, as much as I want to write today, I need a break. Hopefully the voices let me actually take one.
But maybe I just wanna write fanfic right now, even though I could hypothetically write original work and try to get published. Maybe I just wanna right novel length fics about my favorite K-Pop idols instead. Like is that allowed?
Obviously I get inspiration from things I’ve read, but I am also inspired by my favorite movies, shows, anime and manga.
It’s bothersome when I feel like I can’t bring that up when I talk to other writers.
Writer wants to write, but writer’s depression doesn’t care. Writer isn’t blocked, so much as they are drained. Countless words and ideas on the top of their tongue and they can’t speak. Their pen rests on their desk, useless. If writer does not write, are they useless? Was writer wrong to allow depression to be a thief, to steal their love, their job, and their joy? Should writer try to fight, reclaim their humanity, even if it’s just to finish a sentence, or should they concede?
Okay, I made some hard decisions, and we’re down to 10 wips. I think this is a manageable amount. Let’s see how many I can finish this year
I’m writing a second draft for the first time, and it’s both exciting and terrifying. We’ll see how it goes!
There is nothing worse than having inspiration and the will to write and having to go to work, knowing you won’t have it in you to write after.
All the time, except the way my adhd is set up I never remember. I’ve googled paradigm meaning so many times, and I still couldn’t tell you what it means.
Anybody else keep having to search up words you learnt from reading just to make sure it means what you think? Cus I just had to search up the word perturbed cus I only had the feeling of the word.
