Does anyone else start to kind of hate their fic by the time their done writing it? Like when I'm writing it I'm happy with it but by the time I'm editing and adding finishing details I'm sick of it and just want it be over. Then I'll ignore it's existence for a few months and go back and read it and love it! Idk why but this always happens.

Idk what is wrong with me! Every time I set out to write a cute fluffy fic it always is crashed with a boatload of angst (by the way new fic otw, all most done so get ready bebes😗). Like seriously I outlined it super fluffy, why does it never stay fluffy!

Quit giving gay guys the plot of being dumb and not realizing their feelings aren’t platonic while giving the lesbians the tragic romances. Every lesbian I know is dumb as bricks and doesn’t know you’re flirting unless you ask them out on a date and specify it’s a date. Meanwhile gay guys will speed run the five stages of grief about their crushes because they’ve decided that even if their feelings were returned the romance would ruin them both.

You’re depicting the types of stupidity in gay people wrong and I’m tired of trying to find accurate gay and lesbian fiction that reflects the struggles of reality.

Characters whose naiveness is a form of protest, my beloved. Who know that there are dark things below but refuse to look down. Who will not let you take this last bit of childishness from them. Who are doomed by their unwillingness to acknowledge the darkness. Who everyone knows will be destroyed for holding on to something they could never truly have. Who are playing at normalcy and foolishness to avoid having to face the music.

You may not be a child, may not have ever been a child, will not ever get to be a child. The darkness with taint anything resembling a childhood, no matter how much you shelter yourself. Yet I will love you anyway, and I hope that you can slowly begin to look through your fingers, to remove your hands from your eyes. I hope you learn to acknowledge and deconstruct the darkness, because I love that you will not let the darkness take any more.

One thing I’ve seen is a lot of people write in characters is they are constantly going. And I get it, down time in a story can fall flat, but not every character is made to be working by 24/7. Plus, giving your characters a chance to rest also can be a great opportunity to give a glimpse in their coping mechanisms, how they wind down, and it can help slow the pace of your story for your readers to process whatever action scene before that they just read.

To get yourself over this first hurdle, don't overthink it. Just write something. Literally anything.

Words on the page is sometimes all you need to get started.
