summary: she was the only cure to your disease, to ease this pain, to lift this death sentence. but she was too blind by oblivion to notice you calling out for her.
A/N: I must love angst cause that’s all I’ve been writing. I have drafts filled with angst stories. I’ll try to think of more happy things down the road. :) also, this is a series so expect more to come.
In all your years of living you’d never thought that this disease was real. Let alone you having it. The doctor said that you had at least three months to live and the only known cures for it were to get it surgically removed or to have romantic feelings be returned. You couldn’t figure out who you had feelings for since you fell in love with multiple people throughout the years.
Was it Tiffany? Your old college tutor that would give you her famous eye smile whenever you got a answer right? No. It couldn’t be. You guys barely talk now and all you get from her is a little “hey! how are you? 🥰” text every now and then. You couldn’t blame her. She’s a busy girl and you’re busy in your own right. Both of your feelings probably went away as soon as she stopped calling you.
What about Hyoyeon? Your former roommate that would make you stay up till the wee hhours of the morning to watch her dance to her favorite artists. No. It’s not her. Even if you both remained in contact well after her moving out, you guys agreed that you both should just remain friends. Your love for each other stayed as a friendship type of love.
It didn’t hit you until you started to cough up those flowers for the first time. You were sitting on the edge of your bed, having a coughing fit until a bunch of flower petals appeared in the palm of your hand. You had to take a second look to see if you saw what you saw correctly. It was purple flower petals. It can’t be. “Yoona?...”
You knew you had feelings for Yoona but she was so damn oblivious to the point where you gave up on pursuing her and decided to let your feelings fizzle out. You were unaware that your feelings for her remained until that day and ever since then, you’ve had to clean up god knows how much purple petals from your kitchen floor.
You knew you had to make a call to someone or some people that’ll understand what you’re going through. Yuri and Seohyun were close friends with Yoona so maybe they can help you out. It didn’t take them long to come over due to the fact that they heard you almost coughing up a lung over the phone. Yuri busts through the front door with Seohyun standing behind her.
“What’s wrong!?” Yuri asked as you looked up at them from the couch. Seohyun pushes Yuri inside before closing the door, locking it as well. “Are you sick, Y/N? It sounded like you were coughing up a lung...” She said in a more softer tone than Yuri’s. “Um...” You started to say before looking at a pile of purple flower petals. “You know that disease I thought wasn’t real?..” You started to say before grabbing one of the petals.
“Well.. it’s real...” You finished before looking at the two girls, who were still by the door. They both rushed over to you, one sitting at each side. “How long have you been coughing up those petals, Y/N?” Seohyun asked, grabbing your hand for comfort. “It’s been happening for a week now... the doctor said that I have three months to live unless the one that I love reciprocates the love I have for them or.. I get the surgery.” You said before sighing.
“It’s not Tiffany.... it’s not Hyoyeon... hell, it’s not even Krystal...” You trailed off before coughing again, the purple petals falling out of your mouth like a faucet that’s halfway running. Yuri picks one up from the ground. “Yoona’s favorite color is purple... does that mean-“ She started to say, putting two and two together. You nod, confirming her speculation. “Yes. My love for Yoona is still there..” You said.
“How are you gonna tell her, Y/N?” Seohyun asked, rubbing your back with her free hand. “I don’t know... maybe I won’t tell her at all...” You said before sighing softly. Yuri gets up and tosses the petal down on the coffee table. “I’d just tell her straight up “Hey Yoona. I love you and if you don’t love me back, I’ll die.” It’s not that hard.” She said, making Seohyun shake her head.
“No. Y/N shouldn’t do that. It’s too straightforward. How about you send her little gifts like flowers, chocolates, and little letters for the first two months. Then on the last month, explain to her why you did those things and hope for the best.” She said, making you sigh. You coughed into your hand and placed the new petals on the coffee table.
“I’m just... I’m not ready for rejection...” You said before placing your head in your hands. “Yoona’s a bit oblivious, but I’m pretty sure she’s changed over the years. She’s not dating that waiter anymore and she’s been looking for someone.” Yuri said, nudging your shoulder. “Maybe this is a sign. That you both were destined to be together.” Seohyun said with a soft smile.
“After all these years, you still manage to be the innocent seventeen year old I met in high school.” You said before shaking your head. They gave you a boost of confidence, at least to get through today. Tomorrow is a whole different story. This journey is long and rough. But first, you have to figure out what you’re going to do. Will you tell her? Or will you accept your fate?
