“My arm!” he looks in shock

Nandu & Co go on a tour to Camp Cramp

“My Arm!” He Looks In Shock

Nandu, in his younger days, used to travel with his friends. On one of his winter trips, he visited Mysore. Mysore is a cool place and in the winter its even cooler (esp. to us southerners). This trip was an overnight trip, Nandu and his friends did some sight-seeing and came back to the lodge they were staying at for the night and started talking and playing cards after dinner.

Nandu had a habit of placing his arm over the chair when holding cards, as the night grew darker, the room became chilled (the room didn’t have any heating as for Mysoreans it was normal, they didn’t think it was cold enough for a heater). Nandu wrapped a shirt around him without removing his hand that was over the chair and continued playing. As it passed midnight, he started dozing off, his hand was still over the chair, sleepily he buttoned his shirt and dozed off right on the chair!

Around 3 at night he half wakes from his slumber, only to realise that one of his arm had gone missing! He tries to get up from his chair, but he can’t! He can’t feel his left arm at all, he tries to move his right hand over his left shoulder trying to see where the arm went and all he found was the empty sleeve of his shirt!

Terrified he starts yelling at his friends that his left arm has disappeared and slowly one by one they wake up. They too try to see what has happened and are shocked to see that his shirt sleeve is empty! They try to get him to move to the bed but even if 2 people tried to lift him, he’s kind of stuck to the chair! Nandu then panicked and began crying that someone stole his arm.

Scared and confused, some of his friends ran down to get the lodge manager for some advice. Then Nandu slowly got the feeling back in his left arm, he realised that as he wrapped and buttoned his shirt before dozing off, he forgot to put his left arm through the sleeve and in that cold night, his hand cramped and he couldn’t feel it!

Realising what had happened, his friends roared with laughter and the panicked manager was annoyed at being woken up at that time, but he couldn’t stay annoyed as he heard the story and went back laughing.

After the trip Nandu & co came back, but his friends never stopped teasing him about this incident for a long, long time.

Feedback Really Helps Guys-

I’m so sad. I’m very freaking sad.

Im scrolling through my feed, and I see a person I follow talk about how they want to deactivate their blog. It breaks my heart to see that. I love their art a lot and I would hate for them to stop drawing.

Feedback. Feedback is the one thing that artists need. Good or Bad. We need it.

We love hearing things about our art. It’s stressful for people with 1k-2k followers and only have about 5% of their following like their stuff. Are we too shy to comment? Heck I’m shy as well, but I’m working on getting more out of my shell to talk to more people on here. Sorta get a feel of what kind of people are in my community. I’ve thought once or twice about deleting my aus and find another place to post my art and see how that went. Or maybe even just drawing for my own pleasure. Still thinking about it tbh. But I know I wont. Please support those in the BTS Ask-Community. Feedback would be much appreciated. It really would.

When was the last time you saw someone actually writing a letter?

Not application letters, I mean a nice, warm letter to a loved one

When Was The Last Time You Saw Someone Actually Writing A Letter?

*Tring tring!* “POST! POST!!”

For some reason, the six year old me would get excited to hear the arrival of a post. I was always eager to receive letters. The kind old post man would pretend like all those letters or invitation cards or bills were actually addressed to me; he’d hand them to me with an impressed look in his face saying “Arey! Look how much letters you got today!”

As years passed I became busy in studies, career and never realised that the concept of sending or receiving a letter had disappeared from the back of my mind. Until one day.. One day, my husband showed me a video from the Malgudi Days series that I felt nostalgic about my younger, somewhat dumber self.

Thats when I realised that I’ve never seen a postman for a few years now. Especially after the rise of telephones and mobiles, no one ever sends snail-mails. Even when there’s the occasional bill or post, the postmen don’t have their usual smiles or kind words anymore. Being a postman has become just another job.

Here’s the episode from Malgudi Days for the curious :) The episode is in Hindi but the Youtube CC subs work fine

So when I watched that particular episode from Malgudi days, I was touched. It tells the story of a postman who knew everyone in that small village, he was friends with everyone, talked to everyone. He spoke encouraging words to the jobless ones who sent applications everyday and rejoiced with the family that had some good news from relatives of another another town, he shared the sadness of the ones whose loved ones were having a hard time in another village, in short he was an integral part of everyone’s life…

There’s one house/family in particular that the story focuses on. The postman has seen their daughter grow up from being a toddler to a girl ready to get married. He himself brought the letter that the groom’s side wanted to meet them and the good news that they have agreed for the marriage. He with all enthusiasm delivers the invitation cards all over the village and rejoices with the family on the wedding day.

As he’s about to leave the post office to partake in the wedding, a telegram arrives for that particular family. Now, in those times when there were no phones, a telegram almost always meant bad news, an accident or a death. The postman’s sixth sense tingles and he knows, delivering a letter of bad news will mean disaster for the wedding so he does the forbidden and opens the letter. As expected, a close relative has passed away.

The postman, withholds the news, not telling anybody until the next day. The family understands why he did not tell the news and their respect for him increases. They are grateful for him for not spoiling the wedding mood and the family do not report him.

The story was quite lovely and it was a trip down memory lane to see the old locations and houses. It certainly was fun — writing letters and receiving too! I’m excited to see new technology that the future holds and to look back at the past with nostalgia.

Dev Update 2

Welcome to our December edition of the Kingdoms and Castles dev log. Michael and I have been hard at work on all kinds of stuff.

Probably should mention we prepped and launched our crowd funding campaign on Fig.co around the end of November and we’re at 480% funded as of right now. Thanks to all our backers and the fig folks, it’s been awesome and we’re so excited people are digging the game.

We also got greenlit on Steam that same week, so Kingdoms and Castles will definitely be coming to Steam!

Now onto more gameplay side stuff, here’s what I’ve (Pete) been up to:

Siege Ogre - Once the vikings discover you’ve got a castle that can fend off their ground troops, they’ll send invading parties with the siege ogre! It arrives by boat, lumbers over to your castles and tries to take down the walls.

Arrow Tower - These towers now shoot arrows at invaders. Their range increases the higher up on a tower they are placed.

Ballista Tower - Now that the vikings have a siege ogre, you’ll need something to help defend, so we’ve introduced the ballista. It’s a giant crossbow manned by four people and packs the punch needed to deal with siege ogres.

Here’s all three of them coming together in a little weapons test:

image

Villager Names, Thoughts, and Skills - Villagers can have names now, and we’ll be adding those who funded the fig campaign at the “Noble Noble” into the name pool. Villagers also have little thoughts which sometimes respond to what’s happened or what you’ve done, but other times are whatever is on their mind. They also gain skill at what they do over time:

image

Tavern - Got some community help from our discord making the tavern. Note the little people enjoying themselves outside!

image

Road re-do - Roads now include sign posts on three and four way intersctions, and fences on straights and curves. Also ended up changing the tavern roof color as it was too similar to our large houses:

image

Weather effects - Took another pass on our lightning, rain, and clouds during storms:

image

Dynamic Music - We’re now working with Aether on music for the game, and implemented a first pass dynamic music system where the music reflects the complexity of your town:

And now for Michael:

Hello everyone!

This month I’ve been putting together a shiny new resource system. Now, resources such as wood, stone, wheat, and apples have a physical representation in the world. The new system has been hooked into all the existing resource creators (quarries, foresters, fields, and orchards) and well as the new stockpile building. I’ve also extended the concept of constructing buildings by adding Builder jobs. It’s the job of the builders to collect the resources necessary to construct their buildings.

The following GIF gives show a lot of the new resource system features at once, minus Builders fetching resources. You can see: Stacks of wood and stone resources, wheat being picked up and carried to the keep, and stockpile workers collecting stone from the quarry and dropping it off at the Stockpile.

Dev Update 2

Fun fact: If a quarry or foresters’ production stack is not regularly retrieved by stockpile workers, production will get backed up and halted!

Also, Last month I wrote a destruction effect for buildings that create a spreadable crack-like effect over the faces of buildings. You can see it being used in Pete’s Ogre vs Tower GIF above. Here is a close-up overly exaggerated example of the tech:

“Please! Just don’t take me in there!”

Ah! Dentists! Such wonderful people who help care for your teeth. But for some reason they are also the most scariest people to me.

“Please! Just Don’t Take Me In There!”

I've had a history of visiting dentists which included a whole lot of pain and very poor results, which has made me so terrified of visiting them.

I remember one instance in particular from that terrifying period of my life which makes me burst out laughing even now.

“Please! Just Don’t Take Me In There!”

I was in the 6th grade I think, one of my molars had turned bad and i had to undergo a root canal treatment - which of course is very painful and takes a long time. If something goes wrong the tooth maybe removed.

The clinic my mother took me to was quite small, a small waiting room and one bit wider cabin which was also an operating area and the consultation area.

“Please! Just Don’t Take Me In There!”

I was so scared that even when the dentist just waved his hand in front my open mouth, I would anticipate pain even though he did nothing. Which is hilarious now that I think back. To my shock the affect of the local anesthetic that the dentist injected stopped working just a few minutes into the process!

I could do nothing but scream! Scream as if to raise demons from hell! As expected the adults did think I was being dramatic and tried to pacify me to no avail. A couple of nurses and my mother held me down and the dentist operated on my teeth among my intolerable screams and shrieks.

I can just imagine the reaction of the people in the waiting room, I'm pretty sure half of the kids waiting there peed their pants after hearing my screams - "what horrific experiments do they do in there?! Mama! I wanna go hoommee!" And "I promise I'll brush my teeth every day, twice a day or even thrice a day! Just don't take me in there!! Pleeeaasee!!"

“Please! Just Don’t Take Me In There!”

As it went on, a couple came in with their son who was a lot younger than me. I was silent when they came in as the dentist was telling them something until a nurse directed them to a chair to talk. Once they sat, the dentist focused his attention back at me and started poking my teeth with one of thosr needle things...

“Please! Just Don’t Take Me In There!”

I let out the most terrific scream that probably no one had ever heard before. The couple and their son had these scared expressions on their faces, the boy clutched his mother so tight looking at me with those scared little eyes.

“Please! Just Don’t Take Me In There!”

I don't remember much after that but I'm pretty sure they picked another dentist. Of course the dentist, nurses and my mom were very upset at me. But honestly i still remember the pain.

Either way it was awkward, shameful and embarrassing at the time but now that I think of it... I can't help but laugh.

“Please! Just Don’t Take Me In There!”

This incident always reminds me that whatever we go through may seem pretty hellish at the moment, but those things will always change or we can atleast make peace with it. Maybe someday whatever we thought was bad can make us laugh and brighten up our mood.

The day I met my doppelganger.. of sorts

The Day I Met My Doppelganger.. Of Sorts

I love shopping and one day me and my husband, as usual, went together to the local mall and did a lot of grocery shopping. Luckily that day the queue at the checkout was quite small and as we stood in one line we both noticed that the cashier looked just like me!

The Day I Met My Doppelganger.. Of Sorts

A short but thinner version of me to be exact but our facial features were so similar! She looked at me almost the same time we looked at her and we could see her surprise.

The Day I Met My Doppelganger.. Of Sorts

Me and her, we both started giggling at the same time, controlling so other people won’t think that we’re making fun of them.

The Day I Met My Doppelganger.. Of Sorts

I was really surprised and my hubby nicknamed her as my twin and from that day onwards no matter how rush her counter was, I’d checkout there itself.

Oddest thing was we both smiled at each other happily, but neither of us knew the other’s name — probably because it felt like we knew each other with just uttering “Hi” and “Thankyou, bye”.

The Day I Met My Doppelganger.. Of Sorts

For some reason it felt more comfortable just smiling. Then she left the job and we moved to another city. But still remembering those moments make me smile.

This has made me curious to see what kind of people I’ll meet in the future, whether they be friendly or not. It’ll be interesting none the less.

woah fantastic! The hunter is deadly cool

Hunting Down The Last Mermaids.
Hunting Down The Last Mermaids.
Hunting Down The Last Mermaids.

Hunting down the last mermaids.

A painting study that took a very elaborate turn. It’s my first time fitting so many characters in a single composition. The second image you see is how the model posed, versus what I managed to finish painting during the class. I worked on the background between yesterday and today. I still need to work on my textures a little bit but I am overall satisfied with the result.

The process gif skips soooo many steps though lol. I swear I reworked each mermaid like three times, I just couldn’t get their faces to look right no matter how much I tried!

As I was working on this piece I was thinking about fishermen or coastal cities with archaic customs like whaling, or even having to fish illegally because of their dire living conditions. it’s very sad that us, humans, are fishing so many species to extinction because of deeply-rooted traditions, or sheer desperation to keep ourselves and our families alive. It’s a very tough world out there, with no easy solutions in sight.
