Demo Days - Mindwave

WarioWare was a series and a genre that really went over my head for my entire life. I see lots of people enjoy them, so I decided to take a plunge on a WarioWare-like and I came out enjoying it myself. Maybe if WarioWare games are as fun as this week's game, I'll go back and play more of them.

This week is the Mindwave Demo.

Mindwave is a microgame (I guess) game from HoloHammer. The game will release for the PC accompanied by the "coming soon" tagline.

The story starts off with a young woman named Pandora entering the Mindscape Tower to attend the annual Mindwave tournament. Just like in Willy Wonka, a platinum ticket is needed to enter and upon entering one is told that you have to climb the tower by defeating opponents in 1v1 neural microgames to acquire the massive cash prize. Pandora walks into a single person elevator to link up and the games begin.

The gameplay is pretty standard. Microgames use some combination of the mouse, WASD/arrow keys, and the spacebar. When a game is ready to go an icon will appear indicating how it will go.

Mindwave Minigames come in a variety of forms: Platforming, sewing a bear, sorting toys, feeding Tamagotchi-like things, and combing hair are just some of the games that you will play in one level. Pandora can essentially only fail three times before going back to the beginning. Once you clear a certain amount of levels Mindwave will then speed the game up giving the player less time to complete these games. There is also a point to make that ad windows start to pop up that hinder the players view and you will need to exit out of them before too many pile up hindering your view completely.

It is a nice little difficulty scaling.

The gameplay in Mindwave is frantic and requires something of me that I never EVER had; quick reflexes. The first go around does require more attention, but I've played the demo twice now and I think I have a decent understanding of how the games go, so it gets a little easier.

That's until you complete the floor and have to do it all over again with a different opponent.

The art design really reminds me of Invader Zim. The hand-drawn art is heavy on looking like it has been sketched with a pencil and colored in with a crayon. I want to think that has something to do with the person that I was playing against in the game but I have a feeling. Its a great, grungy look, I really like it.

There is one really upbeat catchy song that plays and I AM FULLY INTO IT. Whatever the song was doing made me want me to divert my attention away from the core gameplay.

Mindwave's demo is actually really good, to the point that I played it again, and again. The gameplay is fast and rewarding, the mini-games are super fun and the hope that each floor will be different based on the person that you are playing against mind makes me even more hopeful.

I think I may like WarioWare games if I like this, right?

I cannot recommend this demo anymore. Top tier demo.

Tw for transphobia

maybe it's just me and the side of the world I'm in but it's slowly starting to become less and less reasonable to accept myself as trans. Like I'm starting to feel that all this dysphoria is bs that I'm making up in my head and I just need to snap out of it.

Even if it isn't, even if conversion therapy isn't real and hating your gender isn't a "privileged mindset", it still isn't worth accepting that just to get discrimination against and killed. I can do that as a woman, I'm not going to pay for hormones to do it as a trans man.

This drawing was so surprisingly good there was no way I can just leave it on Roblox.
