I don't usually dabble in realism - but this was a gift for someone very meaningful in my life. And some things just deserve to be painted as they are.

My Christian nurse mother: first of all I’m not cutting you with a rusty box cutter

My mom: second of all there’s a way easier way of doing this that won’t probably lead to an infection *leaves and comes back with an insulin needle*

Me: wait

My mom: *grabs one of my fingers and squeezes it to cut off circulation* hold still

Me: *me freaking out because I think this I gonna hurt* waitwaitwaitwaitwait

I think it needs to be said more that fic writers are not there to cater to a particular reader’s interests, and they shouldn’t be expected to. If you find a fic you enjoy, it’s because in that moment your interests overlap with the writer’s, not because they specifically created it for you, and it’s a healthy boundary to keep. Readers shouldn’t get insulted if the writer posts a fic that doesn’t align with their interests or fandoms; it’s not meant as a personal slight or anything, it’s just the writer writing for themselves, the way they’ve been doing all along. 

It’s really easy to get invested in a fic or a writer and feel close to them because of it, or to have a lot of interests that align with a writer’s and make assumptions about how a fic is going to go/what they’re going to write because of it, but…not everything is for you specifically, and learning that makes things easier for everyone involved. It’s not a slight, and it’s not an insult. It’s just the Venn diagram of fandom and interests overlapping in some places but not others.
