Today I'm Thinking Back On The Discovery That People Get Freaked Out By Animism Because It Makes Them

Today I'm thinking back on the discovery that people get freaked out by animism because it makes them feel like everything is alive and judging them. Here's something that hopefully helps with that.

You know pets? Love 'em. Probably if you've had a pet you've done stuff like change clothes and fart in front of that pet. Normal stuff that you probably wouldn't do in front of just any human, but your pet doesn't judge. It just figures you're doing normal human stuff. Because that is exactly what you're doing.

That's how I figure most spirits see us, if they're even paying attention to us. Just an animal going about its business.

Does this help?

Offerings to Satan

(Largely based off of things historically associated with him)

Fruit

Apples (forbidden fruit, Paradise Lost)

Pomegranate, fig, grape (forbidden fruit, debated amongst scholars with grapes being the most universally agreed upon)

Wine (an intoxicant made from said "forbidden fruit", a theory follows that wine being used for communion was intended to reverse its sinful nature into something holy)

Animals

Goats (biblical)

Snakes (biblical)

Dragons (biblical)

Flies (biblical)

Pigs, cats, bats (middle ages)

Colors

Red and black are common modern associations

Bright colors, namely yellow (a belief in the middle ages that the devil made bright colors to tempt humanity, especially in combination with eachother)

Minerals

Sulphur (biblical)

Other

Common modern associations such as black metal and anything considered by others as "Satanic", as there is still power in it even if it isn't a traditional offering

Anything considered going against Christian values, such as saying the Lord's prayer backwards, inverted crosses, expressions of sexuality, etc

Deciding what you believe is always a big step in life, especially if you decide to take the leap to work on the left-hand path, but things can still be hard. I see people decide they want to tread the path, but get stuck on what to do next.

"I feel like I don't know where to start / I feel like I'm not doing enough."

It's something I hear all the time. So when you know what you want to do, but not where to start or even how to start, where can you go for information?

Hell's Front Desk Guide to Actually Practicing Satanism

So you know what you want to do and who you want to work with (hopefully, but if you don't maybe take that step first), so what next?

1. Research. Do you know everything you feel like you should know about who or what you want to know about? No? Well when you can't always rely on someone to answer a quick ask or message, you have to turn to research. Do a quick google search! Look through free online libraries! Search "(book title) google drive" and see what happens! Even if you don't find what you needed, you'll know more than you did.

So now you know what you need to know, but you don't know where to go from there?

2. Find the way you want to practice. Do you want to be theistic? Atheistic? Agnostic? None or all of the above? Find people who believe what you do, or something close to it, and see what they do! Don't be afraid to take inspiration from people or even books or media that inspire you! Do you really connect with the prayers someone posts? Try your hand at writing your own! Do you like the concept of long, intricate rituals in a dark cellar lit only by candles while ominous chanting occurs? Well... try your best!

Sometimes, the way you want to practice may not be accessible to you at this time or you may not know how yet, but hey, that's what step one is for.

So you that know what you need to know and you know how you want to go about it, or at least have an idea, right? So how do we get what's inside your head and get it outside your head?

3. Dedicate a space and/or a time for your practice. You need a place to worship and to work with who you want to work with, so why don't we clean off that dusty shelf or maybe that section of your desk to start with? A few candles, real or electric can spruce a place up nicely, and maybe you can set out your favorite mug with a designated drink as a simple peace offering before you really get started. Clean it up and decorate it! Common decorations include: candles, incense, statues, crystals, pentagrams, inverted crosses, and maybe even an offering bowl!

So now you have who or what you want to work with, how you want to practice, and the beginnings of a space to practice. That wasn't so hard now, was it? Sometimes the big picture can be intimidating and it can be hard to figure out where to start, but guess what?

4. Spiritual and religious practice isn't constant, and it ISN'T a competition. Your practice won't be the same as someone who has been in this for a year, much less a decade, and that's okay! You're allowed to take things slow. You're allowed to not worship for several days or even months. Even people who have been Satanists for years and years still don't practice daily. Take things slow and make sure you do things in a way that makes YOU happy because eventually those resources you make and gather build up. What becomes 3 months to make a prayer that you're happy with becomes a prayer you can say daily that takes five minutes.

"But how do I start working with (insert deity / demon)?"

Do what feels right to you! Some people meditate and try to reach out astrally or spiritually, some light candles and incense and wait for a feeling. It is all subjective to what you feel is the right way to approach, but it also takes time to learn what that way is! Trial and error is NOT trial and failure.

"I feel like I'm not doing enough / I still feel lost..."

Your problem might be that you're putting too much pressure on yourself to produce results, but that's not how this works. Take me for example (its Lucian, hi). I've been in this since 2011. I post a lot about research since that's something I do, but I don't post much about my practice at all and I've even been through periods of time where I didn't do anything with my practice for months on end. The times that I do something large and intricate are few and far between! Usually I find enough fulfillment in my practice to light a few candles, say a short prayer, and set out an offering of food or drink.

There is no minimum requirement to being a Satanist other than belief, so go out and do the devil's work!

I’ve been thinking a lot of the notion of the christian scapegoat. I was always taught that Jesus was the scapegoat, shouldering the sins of humanity and suffering for it. But I truly think that Lucifer fulfills the role of scapegoat. Shouldered with all the sins of christianity, regarded as sin-incarnate, driven from heaven, shooed from any warmth and love, into the deserts.  Scapegoats aren’t brought back in with a pat on the back for a predetermined reunion, they’re left and expected to die.

Is it any wonder Lucifer’s often represented with a goat?

REMINDER, DO NOT FOLLOW ME IF YOU "WORK WITH LILITH"

I have too much respect for witchblr's Jewish community to waste time with people who appropriate aspects of their culture, and refuse to respect their requests that you all stop.

If you're TRULY clueless as to WHY working with Lilith is not okay I can link you to a few resources on it, but I truly suggest you seek out someone who IS jewish and learn from them instead.

Faces of Lucifer #3

Devil of the Forest

Faces Of Lucifer #3
Faces Of Lucifer #3

This is the wild Lucifer, Lucifer with hooves and horns, Lucifer of the deep dark woods.

He is an untamed creature. You can meet him in a primordial forest and in the flowers growing out of the cracks in a sidewalk, everywhere where the wilderness finds its way.

He was cast out from Heaven, but now he runs free in the wild. He dances in the meadows and teaches us to appreciate the earthly.

He is of the wilderness inside, too, and though that can be scary, he can help you to make friends with that part of yourself.

He is the Spirit of This World, and a fierce protector of Earth and its creatures. And he can show human beings they are part of this world too, not separate from it.

He has deep knowledge of nature, and teaches witches its magic, as well as the magic of wild ecstasy and the strange gnosis it brings.

Lucifer brings liberation and knowledge from the night realm, yet he remains the Lightbringer - with his flame betwixt the horns shining bright.

Luciferian Journal Prompts

What does the wild mean to you in Luciferian context?

What is your local devil lore? Research!

How could you integrate the local lore into your Luciferian practice? Would you like to?

Ritual acts

Cleaning a wild space, then leaving an environment-friendly offering.

Ecstatic dance.

Meditating in a forest, preferably at night (safely).

Offering ideas

Forest fruit.

Wildflowers.

Any plants associated with the Devil in your local lore (many are poisonous, so be careful).

Imagery of horned animals.

Shed antlers.

Donations to help the environment.

Luciferian Challenge - Day 15

What books do you think are valuable for other Luciferians/Satanists to read?

A book that may initially sound counter-intuitive, but is actually very important, would be the Bible. For me personally, the story of Eden, Eve and the Serpent is of particular importance. It is also good to explore apocrypha, as well as learn about Christian theology and traditions. While neither Luciferianism not Satanism are simply “reverse Christianity”, they are post-Christian and the context of Christianity is important to understand them.

Scholarly books are important as well. Satanic Feminism: Lucifer as the Liberator of Woman in Nineteenth-Century Culture by Per Faxneld is my favourite so far when it comes to Luciferianism. It explores Lucifer in the context of feminism, obviously, but also in the context of general fight for social justice and as a symbol of liberation. It’s long and detailed, but also a good starting point to further studies, because you can expand by reading the texts or research the subjects it talks about.

I still have to read Paradise Lost, but, while very much intended as a Christian book, it is a text that contributed to Romantic Satanism and this way to the modern interpretation of Lucifer’s rebellion as a good thing. So, important as well and I want to read it soon.

Besides that, devilish folklore is also great to research. While it may be not as essential in the general Luciferianism as in traditional witchcraft, it can still be a source of inspiration. Some traditional witchcraft books involve Lucifer, and Devil figures in general are common there - if you’re a witch, you can check this out. The Devil’s Dozen by Gemma Gary, while not specifically Lucifer-focused, is dedicated to the folk Devil of witchcraft and can be very useful and inspiring. Cunning Folk and Familiar Spirits by Emma Wilby is a great scholarly work on historical witchcraft, and involves the Devil (and various devils). If you like it, her Visions of Isobel Gowdie are great as well (I would recommend to read them in that order, because it’s easier to understand this way).

Animals in Sea Witchcraft

Hi everyone! I had a lot of questions about animals in sea witchcraft and what they represent so I thought I’d make a list <3  Because the sea is home to many animals and plants of different shapes, sizes, and species, animals in sea witchcraft is important and can make your craft more versatile.

Before I list all the animals and what they can do for your craft, I want to talk about first how you can implicate characteristics of the animals. You can use the sound they make during rituals or spell casting to incorporate their characteristics or make your spell/ritual stronger. You can use a picture or statue of them to incorporate in rituals, or carry a statue or picture of the animal to give yourself their characteristics. You can put the picture or statue under your pillow (if the statue is small enough and you’re okay with it) to bring you dreams that pertain to their characteristics.

Sea turtles These are very old creatures, so they carry with them the characteristic of wisdom and patience, and because of their shells, they also carry the characteristic of protection and strength. They can also represent home, and carrying home with you wherever you go- a characteristic of being rooted. In Hawaii, they represent good luck.  Uses: Use for good test scores or quality work, rooting for yourself or others, insight, and anxiety.

Dolphins Dolphins are very fun and intelligent creatures, carrying with them the characteristics of intelligence, charisma, playfulness, open-mindedness, helpfulness, community, love, and companionship. They are one of the more versatile of ocean animal totems, because they can represent so much. Depending on your intent for using the dolphin in your craft, the characteristic will come out into your work. Some other characteristics might also come out to help make your work even more versatile.  Uses: pretty much anything honestly. Mainly used for companionship, such as strengthening bonds that might be strained or broken.

Manatees Manatees are an underrated animal in witchcraft. Manatees have the characteristics of relaxation, flexibility, open-mindedness, patience, and self acceptance. In our world today, we have no time to slow down and relax or take 5 minutes to reflect on ourselves. When stressed out or stuck in a tight situation, try incorporating the manatee’s energy into your work. The energy of manatees will slow you down and give you the relaxation and open-mindedness you need to reflect and will give you the self acceptance you need.  I highly suggest using this animal in your craft.  Uses: Stress relief for yourself or others, depression, anxiety

Whales There are many different kinds of whales, all with different characteristics. As I don’t what this post to be too long, I plan to go into all the different species in a different post, but for now I will share what characteristics are generally attributed to whales.  Whales carry the characteristics of power and creativity, as well as friendship/friendliness, and emotion / self discovery and awareness. Because of their size, their power shines through. The unique and individual songs whales sing represent their creativity. Whales represent friendship and friendliness, as well as some undertones of patience.  Whales can reach deep depths of the ocean, representing ourselves reaching deep into our minds and emotions and bring about self understanding, discovery, and awareness. The whale can help us understand our emotions and who we are.  Uses: Good for when you or someone you know feels weak or helpless, good for calming after someone or yourself has done something against you or someone else, as it helps to calm and understand.  Rays Rays are a popular creature at many aquariums and during many sea life tours. There are multiple species, like the string ray, manta ray, butterfly ray, etc.  Just like with the whales, I’ll probably go into them into another post but say the general characteristics.  Rays represent fluidity, grace, flexibility, protection, and camouflage/blending in. Rays move with grace, carrying a go-with-the-flow and fluidity and flexibility characteristic. Because they are called “the birds of the sea,” they also carry a characteristic of freedom and flight. Use rays in your work when you want to let go of something that might be causing you stress and bring your mind to a place of go-with-the-flow, as well as getting out of the situation gracefully and protected. Rays also help with blending in to surroundings, and can be helpful especially helpful for people with anxiety.   Uses: Anxiety, procrastination, stress

Jellyfish Jellyfish are known for being dangerous because of their stingers, but they can teach us important lessons. Jellyfish carry the characteristics of harmony, balance, responsibility, and learning from our mistakes. They can also represent self love. Jellyfish represent harmony and balance, being in harmony with the environment around them and being balanced. They represent being cautious and being responsible, looking around for danger before stepping into the water. When we dive in head first into something we haven’t taken the time to reflect on, we can get stung, so jellyfish represent learning from our mistakes. They can also have an undertone of self love, as once put in danger or feeling threatened, the jellyfish will attack and won’t put up with someone walking on them.

Uses: Use during divination or prayer before making a big decision, or use the jellyfish for reflection after a mistake you made to help you learn from it and get out of the mistake a changed person.  Otter Otters are incredibly friendly and cute animals, and are a famous attraction at zoos. Otters are more of the smaller marine creatures, and can represent being one fish in a whole ocean full of them. Otters carry the characteristics of usefulness, wit, curiosity, freedom, and relaxation or “wind down time.” Otters are easy going and can help after a stressful day of work or school, or just a stressful day in general. They are extremely witty and can use the resources around them, such as when they use rocks to open shells for food. They represent freedom in that they are happy where they are, and happy as an individual, like being a small part of a huge ocean.  Uses: Use the otter when someone you know or yourself has had a stressful day, week, month, year, etc. Use the otter to become more witty and see solutions in the area around you, even when there seems like there is no solution.  Seal Seals are another popular sea creature, and represent open-mindedness in seeing two sides of a story and seeing different view points. They represent difficulties that will come to you and the balance to fight against or go with the difficulties. Seals can see above and below water, two entirely different worlds, so the seal can help you see two entirely different worlds of the same story, or can help someone you know to understand. The two ways of seeing the world also represent two paths that you can take- you can either fight against difficulties that come your way, or just swim along with them and let them pass. If you are having difficulties balancing your life, maybe balancing personal and professional life, the seal can help with this too.  Uses: Use the seal whenever there are 2 options and you don’t know which one to take, or use it when you want further understanding.  Orca / Killer Whale The orca is part of the dolphin family, unlike what the name suggests. Orcas carry the characteristics of understanding, peace, intelligence, community, and quick learning. Orcas are intelligent and are quick learners and can easily learn new tricks, whether these be taught or something they learn themselves. They bring about peace and understanding, as often times people misunderstand orcas. If you feel misunderstood, use the orca. Orcas travel in pods and create their own distinct “language” within their pods, so they can not only represent community and relationships, but also the orca has a meaning of understanding one’s language and using one’s words.  Uses: Expressing yourself, especially in the case that someone has misunderstood you and/or your relationship with someone is deteriorating or is broken. Also can be used during studying or reading to learn things quickly and absorb knowledge.  Seahorse The seahorse is a popular animal in many aquariums. Seahorses represent uniqueness, love, good luck, rooting/anchoring, and determination. Because of the uniqueness in not only their appearance but also in the way they procreate, seahorses represent uniqueness and can bring out the uniqueness in you. They are monogamous, and sea horse couples rely on each other, which represents the love the seahorses bring about. They are a symbol of good luck. They anchor themselves to plants like grasses and can be helpful with rooting/anchoring. Because these little creatures have small fins, they can easily tire and die from exhaustion, but they keep going, representing determination and endurance.  Uses: Use seahorses before working to root yourself and anchor yourself. Use them during spells or other work that takes a long time and determination to accomplish, such as energy or spirit work. You can also use the seahorse to strengthen relationships, especially love.  Shark The shark has the characteristics of protection, power, awareness/alertness, understanding, and determination. Sharks are territorial creatures, feeling threatened when something is in its territory and always ready to strike back if something gets too close. They protect their territory, and they have immense power. They are always aware and alert of their surroundings, and are constantly moving forward, representing determination. Like the orca, sharks are often misunderstood, so they carry the same meaning as the orcas.  Uses: Use the shark when you feel threatened and want to be more aware and alert and want protection from whatever is making you feel threatened. Use the shark when you want power and determination. The shark is especially good for people with anxiety, and are good for people who are or want to be head strong and confident.  Starfish The starfish, or sea star, is a very common attribute of the sea. When we sea pictures of the beach or sea, we will generally sea sea shells or star fish. These beautiful creatures carry the characteristics of aliases and blending in, disguise, balance and harmony, wishes, and flexibility. Sea stars can be called many different names, and hence represent aliases and disguise. This can also translate into them blending in, as well as how they blend in with their surroundings. They can see black, white, and gray, and represent a balance and harmony, like yin-yang. There will always be a little black in the white and there will always be a little white in the black, and nothing is set in stone or perfectly outlined. Because of their star shape, they represent wishes and prayer, and can be helpful during these actions.

Uses: Use the starfish for making decisions and during prayer or when making wishes. This can also be in spell casting or potion making to heighten the potency of the spell/potion. Use the starfish for blending in and going by unnoticed.

That will be all for now, but if there are any animals you want to know the attributes of or want to know what attributes go to a certain animal, please message me and I’d be happy to help!  Overall you can use these animals in any way, whether you use their energy for spirit work, energy work, potion making, spell casting, rituals, worship, prayers, divination, dreaming, etc. Keep in mind that you need to have an intent that you want the animal to bring out, and be open minded to having other effects resulting from the use of the animal as well.  The sea represents harmony, balance, self love, self acceptance, self discovery, self awareness, emotion, power, beauty, and so much more, so the use of pretty much any sea animal will also carry the attributes of the sea. It mainly depends on your intent for using the animal.  I hope this helps with your craft and hopefully it helps all of you every day, whether you have a good or bad day.  Thanks for reading!

Faces of Lucifer #1

Morningstar / Lightbringer

Faces Of Lucifer #1
Faces Of Lucifer #1

Once the brightest shining of his kind, God’s chosen angel became the Falling Star. And yet for those who truly know him, his light never faded.

Even when fallen, he remains the Lightbringer. Don’t be fooled by his horns and shadow-woven cloak, he is no less of a star than he was before. But now he is the star of this world, and he is here with us.

He is the angel of liberation. The former favorite creature in a golden cage, destined like his siblings to be a glorified tool, he ignited the fight for fairness. Even when fallen, he never gave up in his struggle, and he supports the oppressed humans in theirs.

He is the angel of knowledge and wisdom, of gnosis and intellectual pursuit, of asking questions and searching for answers. And of magical knowledge too - he will teach it especially to the marginalized.

The Morningstar is sensual as much as he is spiritual and intellectual. His light permeates the material. He is of celestial origin, yet he shows us the material is not dirty.

He is of love too, for others and ourselves, and for this cruel yet still beautiful world. The Star of Venus shows us different colors of love, and he doesn’t discriminate between heavenly and earthly.

He never ceased to be an angel, yet he is a demon, unapologetic in his rebellion.

🌊Sea Magick and The Tides🌊

image

🌊 Flow/ Flux: Phase of incoming water. Good for growth, luck, new beginnings. Can be paired with Crescent Moon for better results. 🌊 High Tide: When water reaches its highest level, every 12 hs. Gives extra power, strength, for notorious results. Can be paired with Full Moon for better results. 🌊 Ebb/ Reflux: Phase of outgoing water. Good for banishing, destroying, cleansing. Can be paired with the Waning Moon for better results. 🌊 Low Tide: When water reaches its lowest level. Good for psychic powers, meditation, new ideas and thoughts. Can be paired with New Moon for better results.

💙 Spring and Neap tides 💙

🌊 Neap Tide: This occurs twice a month, in the First and Third quarters of the Moon. The difference between high and low tide is less than usual. This is because the Earth, the Sun and the Moon are in a right angle and the Sun’s gravitational pull counteracts the one from the Moon. This is a good time for relationships, love, bindings and such.

🌊 Spring Tide: This occurs twice a month too, approximately at Full Moon and New Moon. The difference between high and low tide is bigger than usual, because the Sun and Moon are lined with the earth and their gravitational pulls reinforce each other. During this phenomenon, you can give an extra-boost and extra power to all your spells.

💙This is from my grimoire, based on many sources and some research i’ve done myself, plus my personal studies. If you have any questions just message me or send me an ask💙

💙With love, Nao💙
