āDOES THIS FEEL LIKE A LOVE STORY? Does love lose all validity for how it ends? It might, of course, though endings donāt easily erase history; rather, they seal it. The story of the Beatles was always in some way bigger than the Beatles, both the band and its individuals: It was the story of a time, of a generation reaching for new possibilities. It was the story of what happens when you reach those possibilities, and what happens when your best hopes come apart. Yes, it was a love story - and love is almost never a simple blessing. Because as much as the Beatles may have loved their communion, the world around them loved it even more. That was the love that, more than anything, exalted the Beatles but also hemmed them in with one another, and they could not withstand it. John Lennon in particular, felt he had to break that love, and Paul McCartney hated to see it torn asudnder. Once it was done, though, it was doneā¦They were all there, and it was all a dream. It lifted us, it broke our hearts, it goes on, and perhaps nothing quite like it will ever change the times again.ā ā Mikal Gilmore, Rolling Stone
i love you mutual , a bit more than other mutuals though š x
I need to interact with more of my mutuals. The problem, however, is that I am an awkward apple pie who is extremely bad at interacting. I'll probably need ten days to muster the courage to send a message to mutuals. But...and here it comes...
I LOVE! all of my mutuals! And I get so happy when every I see you in my notifications or even on my feed.
I appreciate every single one of you and I wnat you all to know that your are absolutely lovely, gorgeous, and whenever you're having a bad day, I am there for you. I believe in you and I support you. You are loved, valid, and you cannot be more perfect ā”ļø
Love always, Nico x
GEORGE: But ā and also thereās so much to get out, you know... PAUL: Yeah, right. GEORGE:Ā [sincere] And thereās nobody better to get it out with than us. For me, anyway, really. In my heart of hearts. (x)
The Beatles: Get Back
FOR JOHN AND PAUL playing music meant moving beyond embarrassment; it was the way to express the feelings that could never emerge in spoken conversation. Soon their connection, formed on those mirrored guitars, was so profound they didnāt have to speak to know what the other was thinking. By the end of winter, they were so in touch with one anotherās thoughts and feelings, one friend noticed, they often finished one anotherās sentences.ā ā Peter Ames Carlin
George Harrison en route to, and on, the Isle of Skye, Scotland; photos by Pattie Boyd. (Morrison Hotel Gallery dates these as 1971.)
āGeorge was always a reluctant famous person.ā - Pattie Boyd, British Beatles Fan Club, 2011
"He was never happy with his celebrity status. He hated being recognized, people feeling that they owned him and never giving him any peace, and it had got to the point where we simply stopped going out altogether. So the trip to Skye was the most wonderful experience, for both of us. [On that trip] he looked like a complete madman. But he was quite funny about it really ā he never took himself too seriously.ā - Pattie Boyd, 2007 article, via BeatleLinks
āGeorge was a very sweet guy, very humble. We went down to the Stein Inn and had a couple of pints in there. For the most part Don[ovan] and he kept themselves to themselves. He signed a couple of autographs, but by and large he was left alone. Iām sure the locals were surprised to find a Beatle in their midst, but no one bothered him much. I think he was just enjoying some peace and quiet away from all the hassles people like him have to go throught. Most of the time they just hung out with each other, playing guitars. [ā¦] They were always joshing with each other, a lot of banter. He was a really lovely fellow.ā - Sam Richards, The Beatles In Scotland (x)
"We had gone over to the Isle of Skye to visit and stay with Donovan, because he had a house up there. We all went on a walk, and there was a little crofterās house that you can see to the right of George, and I wanted to get that house and George in the same shot. Scotland is wild, and nature has done exactly what it wants to the landscaping and to the coast. Itās not tamed in any way, and thereās a beauty in that because itās largely untouched by human hands.ā - Pattie Boyd, Entertainment Weekly, 28 June 2013
āGeorge was never very comfortable with that level of fame. The Beatles had experiences where they realized, on tour, that they were trapped in their hotel room. They couldnāt go anywhere. Thatās when George realized what fame had done to them, and he didnāt like it. He didnāt understand why HE was famous. Why him and not somebody else?ā - Pattie Boyd, American Photo, July/August 2008
āGeorge was never an enthusiastic Beatle. He rated himself as a musician first and pop star last. [ā¦] He was always more concerned with stepping ahead in style and quality on the next album than he was with reaching Number One with a new single.ā (Melody Maker, 6 September 1975) (x)

SEPTEMBER 24, 1941 - ā
"I had daydreams and fantasies when I was growing up. I always wanted to live in a log cabin at the foot of a mountain. I would ride my horse to town and pick up provisions. Then return to the cabin, with a big open fire, a record player and peace"
On 9th October, John Lennon would complete his 21st birthday, he was given Ā£100 ahead of from his aunt Mater. John decided to travel to Spain, but when he heard that his friend Jürgen Vollmer, a close friend from Hamburg, was living in Paris, he decided to travel to Paris with Paul. John told his aunt Mimi that he was traveling to sell his paintings with Paul from 30th September and 1th October for a well-deserved holiday. However, George Harrison and Pete Best came to believe that the band could break up. āLast night I heard that John and Paul went to Paris to play together,ā said Stuart Sutcliffe. āIn other words, the band was over! It sounded crazy to me, I don't believe it ā.
Paul and John arrived in Paris exhausted and stayed in a small and cheap hotel, sleeping in one bad in the city, they walked around the city every day, and sat in a few bars. In one of them in Montmartre they watched a comical performance by French rocker Johnny Hallyday. Paul and John found a fashion innovation in a thrift store, bell bottoms, then both decided to buy one each; they went back to hotel and put on the new clothes and went out into the streets of Paris, but in a short time they realised that they weren't used to that style and ran back to the hotel to take them out.
āI remember, we tried to hitchhike to Spain once, but we only got as far as Paris. We liked it so much, we stayed there, just the two of us. We were in this little hotel in Paris; it was so cheap it had fleas. My mum was a nurse, we were very hygienic, then you end up there ā bloody hell! Those things bring you togetherā
ā Paul McCartney.
Jürgen Vollmer (John Lennon's friend) had moved to France with the purpose of studying photography working as an assistant, he wore the hairstyle that Astrid Kirchherr had encouraged Stuart and Klaus Voorman to adopt, after a few days in the city of Paris, John Lennon and Paul McCartney decided that they wanted to do the same haircut.
āJürgen had a hair style down with bangs at the front, which we prefer to wear as well. We went to his house so there he cut our hair in the same way ā.
ā John Lennon.
On October 9, just before returning to Liverpool, John Lennon celebrated his 21st birthday with Paul McCartney in Paris.
āPaul bought me a hamburger to celebrate. I wasnāt too keen on reaching twenty-one. I remember one relative saying to me, āFrom now on, itās all downhill,ā and I really got a shock. She told me how my skin would be getting older and that kind of jazz.ā
ā John Lennon.
Paul took this photo of John Lennon sleeping in Paris.
They returned 15 days later, on the 15th October.
