Halloween is around the corner, the villagers are planning their decorations, creating their costumes, and preparing for their big holiday party
Since July is the Disability Pride Month and the Barbie Movie Month, here's my collection of Barbie dolls with disabilities.
Mattel has been adding disability representation to their doll series since 2019. So far we've had at least 6 Barbie dolls in wheelchairs, along with 2 Kens and 2 Chelsea dolls (little kid sized dolls).
There are 4 Barbie dolls and 1 Ken with prosthetic legs.
There's a doll with hearing aids, and a doll with Down Syndrome designed in association with National Down Syndrome Society.
There are also dolls with conditions like Alopecia and Vitiglio.
Mostly they come out in the Fashionistas line, but sometimes they also crop up in other thematic series, like "You can be anything", and so we had a Para-alpine skiier and an Interior Designer with a prosthetic leg.
There's also a doll honoring Helen Keller from "the Inspiring Women" series.
And in the clips from the "Barbie" movie, you can spot a Barbie in the wheelchair dancing along with others at Barbie's party.
Everyone is dressed for fall and reorganized! They’re now taking up two sections because I keep getting more
omg!
to the doll customization community: any suggestions on how to get into doll customization?
what hair do you recommend for reroots? what is the best paint to use? what kind of finishing spray is the best?
i’ve been told that watercolor pencils are good for sketching out faces. eventually i would also like to get some kind of glittery powders to add some sparkle to some of my dolls skin. anything will be helpful!! 🧡
Here is my custom Rarity doll using a Scaris Catrine doll. She is rerooted with aubergine saran hair from @customdollhairAU and is wearing a work in progress outfit.
I really intended to round off her outfit with a cutie mark but I literally ran out of time packing and getting ready for my big move so she's not quite as polished as I would have wanted her since I also wanted to curl her hair too.

WEAPON OF CHOICE: Her beauty.
OTHER PERSONAL INFO: She's been a friend, self-insert, role model, surrogate big sister, and even surrogate mother to countless girls, and probably to some boys too, for more than sixty years. Whether you love her (for her aesthetics, for her blend of femininity and power, for the way she lets girls use their imaginations and explore every possible aspect of adult womanhood, etc.), or find her annoying (for the unrealistic beauty standards she sets, her "promotion" of gender conformity and materialism, etc.), or a combination of both, she's impossible to ignore.
Tik Tok I made showing the scrunchie shirt!
And some photos of my beautiful girls modeling them!
if i ever post a clean, finished looking drawing that is NOT me.. block and report
I had the day off so I got to play dress up! Finally!!
Fashionista 182 quickly becoming my new muse 💕 I wanted to use her as a "Barbie as Briar Beauty" and stick to pinks and such but anything you put on her looks incredible.
"Briar" is wearing:
Sheryl Meyer's main outfit skirt/dress and belt
Loves.Glam shoes from the Fail Fix doll line
and, the most precious item in all of my doll collection, a 1991 Disney Classics Cinderella's puffy sleeve top. I love Selkie dresses and I'm so happy I ever managed to save this top for all these years. It's older than me!
I'm still trying to get a hold of the whole doll photography thing but at least that mousepad repurposed as a doll rug was a great find!
Added a new color to the armchair collection. You can download this one for free on Patreon.

Morton Salt Girl Inspired Barbie
“When It Rains It Pours” This photo is inspired by the Morton Salt Girl, an ad campaign mascot created by the Morton Salt Company. According to historydaily.org, it’s one of the longest ad campaigns, and was created at the time to promote their unique cylindrically shaped packaging and spout as well as their new salt with a non-caking agent, which wouldn’t clump even in damp conditions. Suite du projet "house hedgedog" ^^... à suivre...
Certains chats deviennent tellement enthousiastes lorsqu'ils sont caressés qu'ils salivent un peu. Cela n'est généralement pas préoccupant tant que cela reste occasionnel.
so recently i tried to modify/mildly customize my Veronica storm doll, bc unfortunately when she arrived in the mail, her bubblegum had broken off in transit and was rattling around the box lmao
the peg was still in her mouth tho, so i used a mini electric sander to carve it down to her lip shape and then painted over it with metallic acrylics and gloss sealer
the bottom lip is a Little rough, but i figure i can go back and smooth it later bc i think it looks fine now for the time being (and much better than it was, at least lol)
It's hard to narrow down my favourite Barbies of all time, as there are just so many. However, of the new lines, my favourite series is Barbie Extras.
I have posted about these before, because I think they have some of the most interesting designs of modern Barbies.
In 2023, Mattel have expanded the line with five "Extra Fly" vacation-themed dolls, and I think they're extremely cool.
The series features four Barbies and a Ken, themed around four holiday destinations: Desert, Safari, Snow and of course... Beach.
In a nod to sun safety, Barbie Extra Fly Beach and Ken Extra Fly Beach have SPF50 sunscreen to keep themselves safe. They also have vacation drinks they can sip on while reclining next to the water. (It doesn't say that it's alcoholic, but I think we can read between the lines.)
I think my personal favourite of this line is Barbie Extra Fly Desert.
I am not sure this is a practical outfit to wear in the desert, but it certainly is fashion.

Dream Barbies
aaaahhhhhhhhh Here it is! No picture of a doll wearing the skirt yet, because I foolishly decided I wanted to make a bodysuit to go with it first.
It’s not perfect, but it’s still a lot better than the patterns I use when I sew my own dolls’ clothes…
Hey there Deililah
let's talk about doll houses for a sec! You might think any old dollhouse would work for a doll, but you'd be wrong. Depending on the size of the doll, you'd need a house to accommodate their size. DO NOT USE AN OPEN PLAYSET DOLLHOUSE FOR A DOLL!!
Dolls love their privacy, due to how they often feel shy. (Not every doll is shy, but it is a common trait.) This is why even though Barbie Dreamhouses are an adequate size for smaller dolls, they are not recommended for them. You can modify the houses of course, but it's better to just find a better dollhouse.
For palm/12 inch dolls, a regular hinged dollhouse should work. Typically, you'd want those semi realistic wooden dollhouses. If you get one bare with no finish, as the doll what color they'd like it to be! After that, open up the dollhouse and make sure there's no splinters or harsh points on the wooden floors. Sand them down if there are.
After this, your doll is going to want to decorate the inside. Let them paint the walls (with supervision) by giving them a paint brush and small cap of paint. If it looks like they need help, ask them first. If they want carpet, you can use fake fur and a glue gun. Help them lay the carpet though, and be sure to was the glue from their hands afterwards.
Now comes a fun project: making furniture! That's right. Making the furniture. After all, most dollhouse furniture is made of plastic, and that's not very comfortable to sit on, now is it? Calico Critter furniture would be a good idea…but only if the doll is small enough to fit it, which is very rare.
Therefore, it's arts and crafts time! You can follow most blueprints you'd follow for diy furniture, just miniaturize it. Use wood for a sturdy base, and foam to cushion it. But do not forget to add some fabric to it! Something soft and inviting for the doll. Like fleece. Once the furniture is ready, place it inside.
Now, let's move on to dolls 2'/4'.
What can you use for their house? Those house play sets you see on playgrounds could work! Now, you can use two play houses to enlarge the space (about four or five feet overall should work.), combining them together. Or you can use wooden planks to build one from scratch.
For furniture, you can use those silly tiny recliners and tiny tables that seem to only be decoration. Or, like previously discussed, you can build it from scratch. Same tip applies here, you can use regular diy blueprints for it.
for now, that's everything about dollhouses! Next time, I'll discuss beds for the doll and their typical diet!
