The company of Thorin Oakenshield for 13 Days for 13 Dwarves!
can i be so for real. i don't care for the hobbit movies at all. BUT. the behind the scenes for them are so interesting. watching one three-hour-long movie is unbearable to me. watching the nine-hour behind the scenes videos for this movie though? one of my favorite watches of the last few years. kinda considering buying the dvd so i'll have it in case it gets removed from youtube.
Haven't decided if I'm done with this yet.. Goldberry River Daughter
“he looks more like a grocer than a burglar” and yet you’re still eating the fucking food
my heart melts when I think of ori knitting mittens/blankets and bofur making wooden toys for little frodo
I don't know if this was obvious to everyone else, but I just realised that one of the reasons why the Hobbit is so effective as a children's book is that while Bilbo is an adult, the skills that make him a hero are all those of a child.
By human standards he's child-sized, which makes him unobtrusive and light on his feet. He can slip by unnoticed where bigger people can't.
He's good at playing games, and even cheats (successfully!) in a way that - let's face it - is not so different to how children try to cheat at games. He's polite in a way that's fully comprehensible to children (rather than, say, being able to perform courtly manners). He's quick-witted, but the trick of keeping the trolls talking is also one that would be achievable for a child.
He doesn't have magic powers, he's not a great fighter, and he's not some kind of Chosen One. There's not much that he does that couldn't be done by a ten-year-old, but the story shows just how valuable all those skills and traits are. It's very empowering.
What Goldberry and Tom Bombadil are to me LMAO
Pauline Baynes illustrations for THE HOBBIT, THE ADVENTURES OF TOM BOMBADIL, and BILBO’S LAST SONG.
The first page of The Hobbit in the style of a 16th century medieval illuminated manuscript.
This started as a comfort drawing while I rewatched all the Hobbit films and ended up being a full on artwork that took a long time...
i love reading tolkien’s descriptive passages. there’s just something about them that makes them so vivid
also all the em dashes lol
They’re so sweet I’m going to cry
“Sam refused to leave his master. When Pippin had gone, he came and sat curled up at Frodo's feet, where at last he nodded and closed his eyes. Frodo remained long awake, talking with Gildor.”
balin and ori 🪶💤
you can get a print here: inprnt!
i drew these two lil guys (originally trailing behind gandalf from a few posts down) and thought that they would be cute as a sticker (that i'll probably never actually make) anyways Aragorn sewed the hobbit's names onto their clothing which they thought was cute but really it's cause Legolas and Gimli couldn't remember which was which and kept on making up increasingly terrible nicknames.
legolas: hey champ merry: i'm sorry???
Tom Bombadil is the Master. No one has ever caught old Tom walking in the forest, wading in the water, leaping on the hill-tops under light and shadow. He has no fear. Tom Bombadil is master.
You know how dads get the pet they didn’t want but it becomes their favorite thing in the whole world?
Thats the dwarves with Bilbo
back on my bullshit
sam, reading bilbo’s book: “well now, i’m sure he had a very nice voice, but that’s hardly a reason to go on an adventure with someone you just met”
sam: turns page to an illustration of thorin, with his dark hair and blue eyes
sam: “understandable, good for you mister bilbo”
huge fan of tom and goldberry......
Goldberry, River-Daughter by Marie Magny
I love these two so much I just want to get lost in the woods to find them </3 Tom Bombadil bringing his lovely wife some water lilies.
Tom Bombadil and lovely Goldberry, about to have a little dance! I love their long, flowing hair but alas, I am not the best at drawing flowy hair.
i know this seems like this blog is themed around Goldberry and a little of Tom Bombadil but it's just that I only got to her part in Fellowship and loved it so much
i'm gonna continue my reading and find more characters to love i promise
