I’m posting this fanart after an insane amount of time, but hey, procrastination is my superpower. Some time ago (actually a lot of time ago, but ssh) I contributed to the Project Sakura Yu-Gi-Oh! fanzine, which is focused on flower language, for Charity RAINN, the largest relief program for Sexual Assault Survivors. [You can still check @projsakuraygo’s blog!]

I picked roses and lilies as symbolic flowers, but in reality, I also wanted Aki to be a symbol herself of rebirth (inspired by the organization we were supporting)

Imagine this setting: it’s Aki against Divine, he’s still trying to manipulate her into going back to his movement, but she changed, she’s not the lost child she used to be anymore, she now has friends who genuinely support her and through her newfound resolution, she summons the evolved version of her ace card (do you see the symbolism?). This would be the duel the anime never gave us. Through this duel, Aki exposes Divine’s true motifs and declares her freedom right in his face. She’s ready to cut ties with her past in the most glorious way possible.
