slowly but surely, we're settling in. well, alan's been here for five months & feels pretty settled already, but after six weeks i'm finally feeling a bit more at home. inanimate objects make all the difference; being surrounded by significant items that have collected/been gifted over the years has been key in making this flat feels like ours. this doesn't bode well for travelling lightly over any great distances in future, but i think i'm okay with that.
the most organised space so far is the living room. pictures on walls & a bunch of flowers on the dining table. a rocking chair from a family friend & an amazing rug. as of next weekend we'll finally have everything from our old flat in this new one (that includes the massive cd collection & old portfolios full of drawings from four year degrees that we've been reluctant to sift through). by the time i'm twenty six, in just under a month, we'll be done, & then i'll share more.
hands up if you like free stuff! it's been three whole years since i've had a giveaway, so i thought i'd have a shot at doing one on this here blog. to be in with a chance of winning the little package of goods above (a giclée print, lino print & badge), just leave a comment on this post saying hello plus a way for me to get in touch (twitter/email etc) if you win. i know tumblr as a rule is pretty into its re-blogging & likes, but i miss the good ol' days when blogs were for commenting on (y'know, like in 2010) . i'll pick a winner at random on sun 6 october. good luck! EDIT: giveaway closed! thanks for all the entries. will be in touch with the winner soon.
pretty happy to be back doing ceramics again. i finally picked up some of the things i made at the start of the year, & found out that i accidentally made some stacking pots.
finally working on some new things - feels so good! as well as stocking the shop for the festive season, i have a magnificent deadline for making things thanks to a craft fair on 4 december. i've written a to-do list for pretty much every day over the next few weeks.
above you'll find a cat i drew yesterday - possibly the best cat i have ever drawn.
a portrait of our cooker for a few days. pasta, corn, fried eggs, veggie burgers & baked potatoes. thankfully alan actually knows what he's doing when it comes to campfires. our pillows smell of smoke.
the concept of flying, through the sky, to the furtherest possible country on earth is a strange thing when you start to think about it. the first weekend of this month saw me travel for over a day to get to new zealand (losing several hours of my birthday in the process, wah), & it's a long journey to mostly stay in one place for. towards the end of our second flight, all i could think of was how glorious it would be to lie down. i sketched haggard self-portraits, a woman embracing a cloud. as someone with only the options of sitting down & occasionally standing up on a crowded plane, the next best thing to freely frolicking around that i could do was draw it. in short, that's where the above ladies came from. flailing around, naked, carefree. drawn at a way higher altitude that almost all of my work. & now they're one big romping dance party that you can use (in two colours: one, two) to decorate your desktops. enjoy. (for personal use only, please. remember to download rather than hotlink).
makin' some thank you cards. i have some available here should you need some too.
i've barely seen my favourite person over the last week or so & i miss him, so i guess i'll just look at this mediocre portrait of him instead.
i'm pretty excited to finally have these two prints up for pre-order in my shop! after a bit of a delay, botanic I & botanic II are now on sale. these images are two of my favourite things i've done in recent times - i don't often put my own work up in my flat, but i'd rather like to get these two framed & on the wall. you can buy each print individually or buy both for a discounted price.
alongside these two brand new prints, i'm also bringing back a print from a long-sold-out edition in digital form. i often get reprint requests for a few items i've run out of, but i don't have much interest in bringing many of them back, mostly due to feeling that the image doesn't reflect my current work/style/thoughts/feelings. however, i've always had a soft-spot for this little bison, & am pleased to offer a new version of it.
okay, so if you're outside of scotland you actually might have some sunshine today, but after a weekend of glorious weather we're back to rain clouds. that doesn't mean a sweet little discount ain't welcome though, right? in a bid to clear out of a few older items plus raise funds for some new things i'm making, i'm offering 15% off everything in my shop until 1 june with code HELLOSUMMER (enter at checkout). aaaand i'm also going to throw in some freebies to all orders over £13/$20. it's always summer in our hearts u guys. have at it.
