I love the casual refusal to tell the readers Yadriel’s deadname in Cemetery Boys. All the opportunities a cis writer would have taken to reveal it are firmly blocked by the narration. It’s not there because it is not an essential or necessary piece of information and I love that. You can still tell Yadriel’s feelings about it, how painful it is to be deadnamed, all without revealing it. Cis writers could never.

Predicting Your Future Spouse’s Physical Appearance Based On Your Darakaraka Planet 💫🪞

In my previous post we predicted you future spouse based on your Darakaraka planet aka “DK” planet. Your DK planet is the lowest degree planet in your Vedic Sidereal birth chart. 

We talked about their characteristics in that post but lets see what their physical traits might be 👀

*Quick disclaimer: this is what your spouse could look like based on your Darakaraka planet in a general sense, of course the entire chart has to be considered in order to make a definitive judgment*

If your DK planet is the….

SUN 

With Sun Darakaraka, your spouse can have squarish/angular features, a strong jawline, broad face shape, and overall have a masculine appearance. Their shoulders/chest can be broad or large. Their hair can be thin with a golden/brown color. Their complexion (undertones) can be warm/reddish/golden. They can have a strong, healthy body and be on the taller side. (6ft+)

MOON 

With Moon Darakaraka, your spouse can have a round face, eyes or nose. They can have a fleshy body with fuller curves/chest and have a youthful appearance. They may be medium to tall in height. Their complexion can be fair, pale, or luminescent, with cool/neutral undertones. Your person can have hair that is thick, dark or even curly or wavy. Moon can give a soft/feminine look to the appearance (even for a male spouse). More often than not, this gives a spouse who is attractive/beautiful.

MERCURY 

With Mercury Darakaraka, your spouse can have a petite, dainty, or slender frame. They can be tall or short, but usually manifests as medium height. They can look quite youthful and look younger than their actual age. They might look androgynous or have a style that is both feminine and masculine. Your person can have natural facial symmetry and have a “polished” or “neat” look overall. Their complexion can be neutral with yellowish undertones. 

VENUS

With Venus Darakaraka, your spouse can have an overall pleasant appearance. Perhaps they have facial symmetry, full lips, or big wide set eyes. They can have sharp facial features, like a strong jawline or have a head that is prominent. 

JUPITER  With Jupiter Darakaraka, your spouse can have a large, well-proportioned frame. Height and size is emphasized here, where your person is taller or larger than average. Their body type can be fleshy, or their mid-section/chest can have extra padding. Their butt/thighs can be pronounced also. Your person’s complexion can have a fair/warm/orange/reddish undertone. Jupiter can “soften” their appearance as well, where it’s not so angular. 

SATURN

With Saturn Darakaraka, your spouse can have a frail, tall or slim frame. They can have and mature or older-looking appearance. Their disposition can be solemn, serious or refined. Their eyes can be deep-set and they may have high cheekbones/gaunt cheeks. Their complexion can be dark, tan, neutral or cool toned. Your person’s teeth can be pronounced as well, where their smile is prominent or they have something unique with them (like a gap). Their hair might be dark, thick or curly.

I think the reason why advice around "good writing" and "bad writing" doesn't really resonate for me is the fact that writing is contextual.

Any item on a list of "writing mistakes" can be used as an effective tool given the right context. Just like following every "good writing rule" at the same time can make the end result seem forced or overworked.

Yes, you need to know the basics of grammar and punctuation etc. But once you know the rules, breaking them can create a really powerful voice.

Break the rules. Experiment. Find the "wrong" ways that work for you. That's one way you can start to find your own personal writing style.

Mo Dao Zu Shi Fic Recs Post 2

Hey y’all really liked my post of fic recs for this fandom.  I’ve read more, so I’m back!  Still almost entirely Wangxian, mostly canon setting.

First up I gave this fic it’s own post as soon as I read it, but to repeat myself: Grand Pianos Crash Together by @megafaunatic (E, 11K, Complete, Wangxian) - This is my ultimate post-The Untamed/CQL fic.   It has such marvelous tension, where both WWX and LWJ want to be together and almost are acknowledging it, but they just…haven’t…quite…kissed…yet…  Covers a year of  separation from LWJ’s POV and the reunion on the mountain ridge and what happens next.

The (Several) Convenient Kidnappings of the Chief Cultivator by the Yiling Patriarch by MissCam (M, 4K, Oneshot, Wangxian) - Another ending for CQL, this one totally hilarious.  Turns out Lan Wangji is too virtuous to be Chief Cultivator, so no one really minds when the Yiling Patriarch keeps kidnapping him for extended periods of time.  Ultimately very sweet as well.

A Day in Yunmeng by suspiciouspopsicle (aka the Breaking Through series) (E, 13K/35K, 3 stories complete, Wangxian) - This rec is really for the series as a whole.  The first fic is rather hot and memorable, but it’s the arc of this canon divergent series as a whole that I really like.  It’s Yiling Patriarch/Lan Wangji starting from the scene with WWX’s undead handmaidens, which turns dark and sexy.  It’s a pretty dark and angsty take on this pair with lots of power games and WWX being pretty darn broken and LWJ just trying to reach him, but ultimately the two of them finding a way out of it.  May make you cry.  (Also, note bottom!LWJ)

Bind Me, Heal Me, Break Me by gotcocomilk (E, 11K, Complete, Wangxian) - Lan Wangji visits the Burial Mounds and stays.  Yiling Patriarch!Wei Wuxian is very unstable and self-hating in this one, but LWJ slowly gives him back his warmth and life.  Featuring lots of bottom!LWJ sex and resentful energy tentacles, and some very lovely language.  Really brittle and bitter and yet beautiful.  Healing through smut, one of my favorite things.

and so my heart beats wildly by @omgkatsudonplease (E, 106K, Complete, Wangxian) - I hadn’t read this yet when I made my last recs post but I have finally.  It’s Modern AU with cultivation, in which cultivation is a sport played in Hunger Games-like arenas.  Since both the author and I came from YOI fandom, the similarities of cultivation as a sport with figure skating are appreciated.  In fact, this feels a bit like a Yuri on Ice AU of MDZS.  Nicely done with WWX and LWJ as public rivals but maybe private friends…maybe more.  While being watched by a rabid fanbase including shippers.  Great plot, also.  And So Much Figure Skating Snark.

Words Fall Like Rain by marginalia (M, 1K, Oneshot, Wangxian) - WWX makes LWJ use his words to say what he wants in bed.  I just really like this and think it’s lovely.

it’s your soul by syriala (M, 3K, Oneshot, Wangxian) - Wangxian had a sexual relationship prior to WWX’s death but WWX doesn’t think LWJ returns his feelings.  He’s also self-conscious because he doesn’t have the same body that LWJ used to enjoy so much.  Somewhat heavy on the angst and pining, but a happy ending.  I’d been thinking about WWX’s insecurity aboiut his new body before reading this and it really did it well.

It’s Only Time by etymologyplayground  (T, 8K, Complete, Wangxian) - Set post-CQL and consisting mostly of letters written back and forth between WWX and LWJ.  I didn’t know how much I needed pining love letters written by these two until I started this fic.  This is one of those fics that will make you nearly DIE with the beautiful longing and gradual confessions.  Amazing, wonderful, genius, etc.  Plus the reunion.  Run, don’t walk to read this one.

yeah it’s true (that I fell for you) by @thirtysixsavefiles​ (M, 8K, Oneshit,  Lan Xichen/Nie Mingjue)  OMG it’s a different pairing!  It’s also modern AU.  Look I want LXC to have a happy ending and I love this ship but it’s not a happy one in canon.  But this..WWX makes an online dating profile for LXC who is convinced he’s being catfished when NMJ from his company starts texting him.  But playing along turns into genuine connection and sexy messages and…it’s funny and sweet and hot.  

let’s you and me go for a ride by @dreaming-fireflies (T, 21K, Complete, Wangxian) - Another author from YOI fandom who is now writing MDZS. Modern AU in which WWX and JC are motoGP racers and the Lans are wealthy sponsor of their team.  Sweet falling in love, with fairly dramatic plot that is well-translated to the new setting.  I really like all the character details and quietly sweet moments.
