workout because its good for your heart, lungs, releases endorphins, and you want to get stronger. not because it’ll make you skinny or make your body look a certain way.
wear sunscreen every day in order to protect yourself from easily preventable and deadly skin cancer, not with the goal of preventing aging (there is nothing wrong with aging or wrinkles; it is a natural part of life and reflection of the life you live).
eat more vegetables because you need the fiber to make you more regular, they help lower your risk of eye and digestive problems, and they help in nutrient re-uptake. not because eating only carbs is “bad” for you. you need a combination of carbs, fruit/veg, protein, fiber, fat, etc for a full balanced diet.
cut out dairy from your diet if it makes you shit your brains out every single time without fail, not because it will “make you fat”.
drink more water because, despite how annoying it is to be told “just drink water”, it does actually make you feel better if you’re anxious or your head hurts or you don’t have any energy. not because it’ll “flush out your immune system uwu” or it will make your skin clear.
drink green tea because its delicious, not because it’s a “natural detox”. ( “detoxes” aren’t real. your kidneys detoxify your blood for you)
not everything “natural” is automatically healthy for you. not everything “unnatural” is automatically unhealthy/dangerous
cutting out whole food groups and labeling them as “bad for you” in any form is restrictive. if you aren’t allergic to gluten, you don’t need to cut gluten from your diet in order to be healthy. if you were not specifically instructed by a doctor to go keto in order to aid treatment for a disease (such as cancer or epilepsy), you do not and should not go keto.
do “healthy” things because you deserve to live a long, healthy life. yes, you. your weight doesn’t matter and it has never mattered. you deserve to keep yourself safe.
I became so attached to my depression that I can't imagine my life without it anymore
My toxic trait is firmly believing that being $k!nny will solve nearly all my problems, and I refuse to consider otherwise
Brushing my teeth is my arch nemesis, the bane of my existence, the bringer of evil and hardship, my enemy and my unreachable goal, the wall that stands strongly between me and being a somewhat functional 26 year old, a true symbol of incompetence and failure and...
Okay, I'm exedurating. But also I'm not. I have struggled with brushing my teeth all my life, but what I have struggled with even more is the shame I feel because of it.
"This shouldn't be hard, this shouldn't be an issue, I shouldn't be struggling with this."
Well, because of a multitude of things, I AM strugling with this. And saying that it should be easy isn't exactly helping.
Something that made hygiene-related things easier to do was to say "fuck it" to the concept of doing the thing at the Right time. My teeth do not understand that it is currently 02:00 or 15:00 and they're getting brushed. The skin on my face doesn't hold up a timepiece and say, "why haven't you washed me, twelve hours have elapsed and you haven't bothered to wash me!".
As someone who has had very intense experiences with my ability to do things at the Right time, throwing out those rules has been a game-changer. I used to shame myself because I didn't do something at the Right Time, so I just didn't do it, which would make me feel even worse. That's not a healthy way to go about anything. Accommodate for yourself. Throw out those rules.
I’m sitting here laughing now but it’s crazy how my attitude switches up in just a few days. Like how was I trying to run a little ed blog like 4 days ago now everything’s all good and I’ve decided that hmmm maybe I don’t want to starve myself, or at least don’t need to as I’m only a teen and with that still developing so why ruin my bodily functions and even more so what do I get out of hating myself. I have had on and off disordered eating habits for a while now but I think I genuinely have the drive to keep pushing and take care of myself even when I don’t want to this time, and I know it will take a while to love or at least like myself, so I’m trying to start now. I feel as if I can consider myself lucky to not have fallen into severely disordered and extremely damaging eating habits and since I am overweight with a bit of a slower metabolism I think that gave me some wiggle room as well which I’m thankful for as I was able to not get sick. Kinda a bunch of yap but yea and PLEASE EAT SOMETHING FILLING AND MAKE SURE TO DRINK WATER‼️🫵🏾🫶🏾
You are allowed to be flawed. You are allowed to be vulnerable. You are allowed to be a complex individual with many layers beneath the surface. You are allowed to have opinions that don't agree with the status quo. You are allowed to live & take up space however you need to. You are allowed to speak your mind. You are allowed to keep your peace of mind protected. You are allowed to cultivate a definition of life you can agree with.
